For those of you who don't make your own baby food, when is a good age to go to stage 3? I have my almost 8-month-old (turning 8 months next week) on stage 2 since he was 6 months old, and we just started stage 2 fruits and veggies, and I'm so nervous and the meats and pastas! I'm afraid he'll choke, or learn to swallow so when we go to table food he'll try to swallow that! Am I being crazy? Will he automatically mash them with his gums? He has his 2 bottom teeth, that's it so far. Thanks!

My son is 8 months old and he would much rather have table food. I still feed him his stage two but I don't think I will try the stage three. You could try him on some and see how your lo does. My son just want's table food more.

Oops, I mean we just started stage 3 fruits and veggies...

Wow, table food at 8 months? What foods do you give him? I'm so hesitant, but I don't want to hold him back either. Does he chew and mash with his gums? Maybe I'll see what he does with stage 3, but I'm sure his doc will tell us to do some table foods at his 9 month check up.

My son will eat just about everything we eat. He does chew and mash all the food with his gums. Have you tried the little puff's with your baby yet? My son loves those.

Brayden loves puffs! He'll also eat some yogurt, ripe banana, and cheese. I would go for it - just give him very, very small pieces at first. Plus, the puffs are great - they melt in their mouth.

I don't know why I'm so hesitant, I'm so scared he'll choke! I just tried puffs with him and he is doing fairly well. He will get them stuck on his tongue sometimes and gag and make a face, but he works on it and is getting better. I was thinking about trying some ripe banana, but thought I maybe should wait until his 9 month check up with the doc first. Maybe I'm holding him back and being too cautious. I tried stage 3 and he did not like it. He mashed the carrots but I think he was confused about some of it being higher texture and some lower so he wasn't sure what to do with it. I think I'll stick with the stage 2 and add table foods slowly. Thanks ladies!

Yes, he absolutely LOVES the puffs and works on them great. I gave him small pieces of ripe banana, but it was hard to tell if he just swallowed them or mashed them. He is definitely interested. He runs right over to us when we are eating something and grabs for it and even makes chewing movements. I'm thinking I need to start giving him more things to try and not be so worried he'll choke! Thanks for your input!
