Dtr is getting ready to turn 9 months Friday, we go for our 9 month check up and to discuss foods next Monday. She also has no teeth. The only table foods we've tried is mac and cheese really mashed up, yoguart (peach kind-- you have to watch the citrus fruits since they aren't supposed to have that unless you get the baby kind), bananas and potatoes. She's not a big fan of anything except for yoguart. The rest you would think we were feeding her dog food or something. She makes the worst face. I'm scared of giving her stuff b/c she is so aggressive with her food she thinks she can just swallow anything.......the dr told us a while back just to remember that her throat opening is about the size of her pinky finger so as long as we made sure it was mashed up or that small it bites we should be ok. Still makes me nervous. She loves her baby food, has started not to drink near as much formula. Good luck.....I can't wait to talk to the dr next week.

Mrs Ireland, My dd will be 8 months in a few weeks and this is what we are feeding her. For breakfst rice cereal mixed with applesauce (about 4oz.) then i breastfeed her mid morning, for lunch she has oatmeal mixed with bannanas (about 4oz.) then i breastfeed her again in the afternoon. Then for dinner she will have some sort of veggie that i purred, carrots, peas, greenbeans, sweet potaoes, stuff like that, (again about 4 oz) i think i will be making her chicken soon. Basically i just keep introducing a new food every so often and i just make the texture of it a little chunkier every time. There is really so much they can eat at this age as long as it's small enough and if you have a blender or a food processor you can make it yourself.

Oh i forgot to mention, i'm still doing the rice cereal and oatmeal for the iron content since i'm breastfeeding and she doesn't get too much from me.

At 8 months, I would be giving my daughter the baby crackers, maybe some cereal (no milk of course) and stick to all the baby foods still, just maybe some fruit and veggies, although she does have 2 teeth. She is 6 months (almost 7 months) old and just started cereal not to long ago, she just had veggies so far, haven't introduced the baby fruit yet. I won't give her mac and cheese until later because there is milk in it. So she won't get that til 10 months. BUT no one but my family agrees with my food decisions for my daughter. I still want her to have lots of formula til she is 1, and at 10 months I was going to start people food, but not like gravy on mashed potatos, just mashed potatos. Or spagetti (sp) with sauce, just noodles plain. I am pretty picky with all of this because I want my daughters stomach to fully develop. But I guess thats just me. I do things later rather then sooner.

Krissy-I really like your schedule. I'm not used to seeing many people baby their kids that much. I love how you aren't jumping into everything and slowy introducing things. I haven't met anyone else who is like that...just thought I would add that

britt_m - March 18th, 2008 5:34 PM

I've made my own baby food. Now she's pretty much on table food and still breastfeeding. You can start meats (chicken and turkey) around 7-8 months. Tofu around 8 months. Fish (white fish, haddock, salmon) around 7 months. Natural unsweetened yogurt around 6 months, you can add fruit. You can start with mild cheeses at 6 months. Egg yolks at 6-9 months, makes a great thickener to purees. Lejumes at 6-9 months. Here's a good website: homemade-baby-food-recipes

Those dashes between each word are suppose to be there.

Nerdy girl, thank you for that compliment. I'm kind of anal about the whole food thing b/c my dh had so many food allegeries as a baby so we are taking it slow and i wait at least 4 days to add something new in case she has a reaction. SO far so good, no reactions yet. And i wouldn't worry about what your family says, it sounds like you are doing just fine, you know your baby better than they do, you'll know when she is ready for more.

My dd is 8.5 months and for breakfast she has oatmeal mixed with a jar of fruit or a yogurt, for lunch she has a jar of veggies mixed with 2-3 tbls of brown rice cereal, and for dinner she has a food with meat in it (chicken noodle dinner, sweet potato chicken etc..). I am now starting to introduce adult table foods and I got some Annie's organic microwave mac and cheese and my dd really like it. I like the little microwave pacs because they make a small portion in only 3 minutes and you can "overcook" them to make them really soft. Try all kinds of things, that is what I do. My dd also really likes when I put a slice of peeled apple and some cheese in her mesh feeder for a snack.

gurinsa - March 19th, 2008 2:47 PM

I have been getting more and more adventurous lately. My daughter will be 9 months next week. Lately I have been giving her cooked pasta spirals, small pieces of cubed cheese, small pieces of peach, even a toasted frozen waffle - she loved it!!

Mrs.Ireland - March 19th, 2008 2:56 PM

The only thing I worry about is that she doesn't have any teeth yet.
