Just wondering how old were your little ones when you started to give them crackers and those veggie puffs at the table? My son is 6 months and 2 weeks and I gave him a cracker when we were at the restraunt and I was wondering if thats okay to do. Just when we go out to eat (which isn't alot) but my ped said not to give him table food until 7 1/2 months. Do you think a cracker here and there will hurt?

I was under the same assumption that you are under that crackers are a good first table food but that was until my dd choked - and I don't mean swallowed wrong and then was fine - the cracker lodged in her throat and she stopped breathing - it was the scariest moment of my life....crackers arent good because they can take big bites and choke. I was sitting in front of my dd monitoring every bite to make sure it wasnt to big and she still choked so I would say stick with things that can't break off into bigger peices like Cherrios, puffs, wagon wheels and very very well steamed veggies and fruits that are chopped very small.

I think they are fine if you break them up into tiny cherrios-sized pieces, that's what I do anyway... I wouldn't give him a whole cracker for the same reason Heather F said, they can bite off big pieces. Best to give them small pieces one at a time .

Ive given Mason crackers and such, but even now as Heather F said (he is 9 1/2 months now) they can choke. I break up everythign I give to him in small pieces because otherwise he will just bite off a big chunk. Even on the teething biscuits.
