When To Start 3 Meals A Day??

You could add another veggie at lunch time, but for 7.5 months it sounds like you are doing great. I think by 9.5 or 10 months I started 3 meals a day with about 3.5 bottles a day. |

I was wondering if I'm doing 2 meals a day right now is it better to do the second meal at dinner or at lunch? What does everyone else do? Right now I do breakfast (cereal and fruit) and then at lunch I do a veggie. Often she is not interested in food at breakfast so I end up moving her meals to have a lunch and then an early dinner. I'm not sure what to do when she won't eat anything at a meal. Make up for it later? My dd doesn't seem really crazy about food in general. I thought she would LOVE Fruits, but she does like bananas, she doesn't care for the apples or pears I've tried and she only likes sweet potatoes and carrots a bit. No green stuff....agh! |

Stefkay, I would go with letting her choose when. GRIM is still on one "meal" a day and bottles the rest of the day. Usually, she gets her meal after a 3 hour nap (she's pretty by-the-clock about a bottle every 2-2.5 hours) when she's hungrier, well rested, and more likely to say "I don't care WHAT it is, but FEED ME!" lol If she takes that at 3:00 pm, when I get up to take my shift with her, she has a little cereal and as much of whatever she's having that day as she wants, then a small (like, maybe 2-3 oz) bottle to wash it down. She really loves eating food, and she really loves her spoons, but she gets frustrated about trying to eat before she's actually ready to be finished eating. Hence the bottle after. If she takes her meal around 6 PM, we do the same thing, but with a bigger bottle - sometimes her full 5-6 oz - because she tends to cluster around that time, then drop like a stone to sleep around 8. And just tonight she discovered OMGsweetpotatoes! and went INSANE on them. lol So now I'm waiting to see if she has any sort of a bad reaction. We also picked up some oatmeal cereal now that she's a little older, and some green veggies. OH! One trick for getting them to where they like what they're eating I've found is a tiny spoonful in their bottle. Not every bottle, but maybe one a day. She wasn't real fond of apples at first, but I used that trick and stuck to cereal for spoon practice and after a week, she was taking in apples like she'd always loved them. My mom taught it to me, they're used to equating that flavor with their milk, and it gives their milk a less bland, same-thing-every-day flavor - like breastmilk would have if she (GRIM) were being b'fed. I read today that it takes babies/toddlers something like fifteen tries before they decide if they *really like* or *really hate* a new food. |

Well, I've found my little one really does not like morning food. I keep making her oatmeal mixed with a fruit and she doesn't want to eat. If I put it in the fridge and try it again at lunch she will eat it! Then the veggie at dinner instead of lunch seems to go over well. Can I mix green veggies with the carrots or sweet potatoes to get her to eat them? She just won't eat more than 2 bites of the greens and I started those like 2 months ago so she's tried them many times. She does peas better than green beans though. She is breastfed only outside of food so I tried mixing breastmilk with veggies and it doesn't help. I do mix it with the cereal and fruit though for the first meal. |

Stef - This'll sound strange, but have you tried mixing a tiny spoonful of greens into a bottle of breastmilk? That's the only way we could get GRIM to eat carrots at first. Then she loved them. Then she discovered sweet potatoes and now she won't have a thing to do with carrots! lol |

Thanks ladies! Luckily, I have absolutely no problem getting Olivia to eat...she will eat anything & everything!! Green, orange, yellow, red...she doesn't care, she just wants to eat. SHe just sits in her high chair with her mouth open, it's great. She's quite tiny though! I'd think with as much as she eats she would be a chunky baby, but she's definitely not...strange! :-) |
