I am writing this with my frustration of bottles--- and each bottles nipples. My daughter is almost 3 months and we have tried several brands of bottles/nipples and quite frankly, we have hated all of them. Either the flow is streaming out, or it's barely dripping. I watch her struggle to keep up with the fast flow, or work very hard and get very frustrated to get a drop out. I've tried Playtex ventaire, and Avent. And, have also used their corresponding 0-3 mo. nipples- with Playtex I've even tried their 3+ month nipple. Anyone have any great recommendations on bottles that actually work well? That don't stream, or hardly drip, or leak from all the areas that they can leak from? Help us! Thank you!

I used playtex drop ins when i use bottles. They are the shape that's just like a womans nipple apparently, they were always dd's favourite over the avent. I'm not sure if i would trust avent anymore anyways. I used that one called something like the playtex vent or something similar, we got a few free samples of them by signing up for stuff a few times, she never got anything out of it!! I even read the instructions,it said something like massage it first,so i did that and nothing still came out! I don't know how people use those. i'm sure dd missed a couple feedings because of those, they look neat but don't work. Dr. Brown bottles are supposed to be good to, but i'm not sure about the nipple or anything.

I breastfeed, but suppliment with pumped milk or formula a few times a week if I am busy or have to go out, so my husband can feed my daughter. She was REALLy picky with her bottles for the firdt 4 months (she's 7 month now) but her favorite are BornFree bottles, they are a bit more expensive then most, but the nipple is very soft & they have a vent that filters out air bubbles which is great because she used to get really gassy with other bottles, & they are BPA free which is great & what I was looking for in a bottle. They come in glass & plastic, & they are the only bottle she will ever take.

I use Playtex drop ins but it took me a long time to figure out which nipple worked for ds2. Luckily Playtex have a wide assortment of nipples to choose from. Finally one nipple worked. I don't know what its called but the nipple is long and perfectly round...and it only comes in fast flow. He won't take any other nipple even at 9 months old. Ds1 on the other used Avent and never had any issues. We did try Dr Brown bottles with him but they ended up having too many parts, took too long to clean, and leaking more often than we liked. I think you should stick with Playtex and try out every nipple they have. You can always take one of the slow flow nipples and make an extra hole if needed with a hot needle (do it old school! hehe).

agreed--- the playtex ventaire were the absolute WORST. They don't let anything out- I even tried the next age up in nipples, and those were just too fast flowing. I do not recommend them (Playtex ventaire) to anyone at all, and should write a letter telling them how terrible the product is. The avent is OK (not great) with formula, but with breast milk it literally streams out with such force that when I check the temp on my wrist, it goes all the way across the kitchen counter!!!!

micsmms- I just posted about this in December Mommies but make sure to loosen the top of the bottle when testing temp & feeding. The heat causes it to shoot out and that will release the pressure.

The bottles I found best overall is the evenflo classic bottles. They are reusable, easy to clean, do not leak , bpa free and inexpensive. I cannot tell you how much I love these bottles.

Neither of my daughters could get a drop out of the standard playtex ventaires. My first daughter used the playtex ventaires meant for switching between bottle and breast. They're short and fat. They worked very well.

I tried many types on my 1 week old. I couldnt find the playtexs anywhere. Finally she took Gerber Nuk. I love them and they're orthodontic. The nipple is flat on the bottom and the hole is on the top.

I mostly bearstfeed, so I don't have too much experience, but when we supplement, I use playtex drop ins. I really like them, and my lo doesn't have the strongest suck. It takes him a while to drain a bottle, but he does. And, he doesn't get too gassy afterwards. Oh, and I haven't noticed any leaking issues. good luck!

I also agree with the playtex dropins. I breastfed both my kids and used these on both of them. We tried two other brands, Gerber and Avent and it was a no-go for both with both kids. I'm weaning and we are now down to one breastfeeding a day, for the last two weeks we have switched bottles as well. He actually loves the playtex ventaire. He is 5 months tho and I always had a fast let down. He wasn't getting much of anything out of the slow nipples, but was sick with pneumonia and those seemed to work better (I was still using the dropins as well.) Now that he's feeling better I swapped him to the fast flow and its perfect for him. I'd say just pick one that works the best and give it another few months. Maybe like DDT has mentioned just poke another small hole or two in it until it works for her.

I breastfeed mostly but give my dd a bottle on average once daily. I used to use the playtex drop ins and they were ok, but I hated having to take not only all the bottle parts but also the box of liners with us when we'd go anywhere. I switched to the ventaire and she really likes them. We got the wide ones so they basically have the same nipples as the drop ins. Also I have a set of Born Free bottles that I got from my sister as a gift and she likes those too. I use them when the ventaires are dirty usually or for juice. My dd also uses the slow nipples because I think it is more like the breastfeeding. When I put a fast nipple on the ventaire she choked and sputtered. She's 8 months so I felt weird doing the slow nipple b/c it says for 0-6 months but it's working!
