Baby And Hives ???

My son had them when he first ate eggs (and a RAST test showed he was allergic to them). He got them another time when he hadn't eaten anything new and the doc came up with him being allergic to a cold virus (he had a cold). Anyway, those were roaming hives- they'd come and go on different parts of his body for over a week. I gave him Benadryl at first, but then it wasn't helping so he got a prescription for Zyrtec, which helped. So that was a case where I think they were just guessing! My daughter got them once at the doctor's office. What happened was... she had been in the hospital with RSV and was put on antibiotics and had no problem with them in 7 days. On that 7th day she had a checkup (they wanted to see her a week after she was released from the hospital) and right after the doc felt around her neck to see if she had swollen glands, she broke out in hives right in that area... and then they went away within minutes. Well, he called it an amoxycillin allergy, but I really suspect it was his handsoap, since she'd been on amoxycillin for 7 days with no problem. Anyway, maybe w/ your daughter it wasn't something she ate, but something that touched her skin that was new? Like a new soap, perfume, lotion, etc.? Don't know... just guessing here! I'd call your ped to try to get to the bottom of it b/c some (not all) allergies can be mild at first, but get progressively worse with each exposure. |

The same thing is happening with my lil one they come and go, its weird I was going to take her to urgent care this afternoon but right before we were gonna leave they had disappeared. I didnt want to take her and have them looking at me like I was crazy because there was nothing there. My dd has a slight cold runny, stuffy nose and slight cough. Do you think that is the cause ?? The cold that is. |

My daughter has had the same thing for the past week! I thought it was the laundry soap. My babysitter said her little one gets something similar in the winter when his skin is dry. I wanted to take dd to the walk in clinic, but also didn't want to look like a moron when they have all disappearred!! |

Natalia's mom and Erin 1979. Because my son's would come and go and were in different parts of his body and sometimes more severe than other times, I videotaped them and went in with the video camera to show them. As it turned out the hives happened to be at an all time bad on his face and neck when I went in, but weren't on the rest of his body, so I was able to show the doc that he had been covered in them. The biggest problem, then, was that he seriously looked diseased and I could just see the other moms in the waiting room cringing... UGH! I guess it could be from anything... they may be able to do a blood test and figure something out. Good luck! |

My daughter developed a blister like rash on her bum this weekend, and I decided to take her into the clinic. It turns out, while we were sitting in the waiting room, I noticed more bumps on her hands, and the rash on her bum was getting worse. The doctor said it could be hand foot and mouth disease (although she has no lesions in her mouth, no fever and a good appetite) but it can also be caused by the cold she has had. She seemed very unconcerned, and just told me to use infant benedryl and advil (if she was in pain or had a fever). She gave me a prescription for the bum rash. If it's not gone by Friday, I'm going to make an appointment with her family doctor though. |

Ok I took dd to the Dr. yesterday and we (me and Dr.) tried to brainstorm what was causing the hives, couldnt come up with anything, she just said to keep an eye out . Well since I was there I decided to go ahead and get her, her flu shot. So this morning her hives seemed to be a lil worse then they were at the dr.'s office. Do you think it was the shot or just another outbreak from the initial one? |
