I just feed my newborn breast milk I tried giving him cereal really watered down by my breast milk to see if he would sleep longer at night but it didn't work.

formula milk or breast milk is the only thing your baby needs until about 4 to 6 months when you can start weaning your baby onto solids

I was told to breast feed the baby as long as you can to ensure it's immune system will work properly for later on. But personally, right now, I am preg. and don't have the baby yet. What I am thinking is, not more than 6 Months breast feeding, but I'll see when the time comes of course, we don't always have the choice anyways, right??

Breastmilk is the best infant food. Formula is immitation breastmilk. They can't even get close to making a good substitute for breastmilk. Like Maureen says, breastmilk has immune system boosters, but that's not all. It has lots of things that aren't in formula, like amino acids that contribute to brain development. The more you learn about the benefits of breastmilk, the longer you are going to want to nurse. Find the book "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding". It has all the information you need to make an intelligent decision. Maureen, you do always have a choice. Unless you have had breast surgery where the milk ducts have been damaged or removed. Goodluck to all of you. If you have problems with breastfeeding, contact a lactation consultant ot a La Leche League Leader (They help for free.).

Breast milk is best. Your body specifically makes it for your baby.

Breastmilk is always the number one thing, followed by breastmilk. Thats pretty much all they can have until their around 6 months old. And they can't have cows milk until they're a year old.
