My dd sleeps with an afghan she loves, it has holes in it so I dont worry about it going over her face and its not too hot! |

Hi Renee! My 6 m/o dd sleeps w/ a blanket. I tuck it in to her matress so she can't pull it over her head, lol. But she gets frustrated w/ that now b/c she rolls over on her tummy in her sleep. Stinker. :) I let her fall asleep w/ a toy that has a blanket attached but dh or I take it away once she has fallen asleep. She likes to rub it on her cheeks. Too cute!! |

I also give dd a small afghan that my step-mom made for Ashtyn. It is super soft yarn and has holes, so I son't worry about her suffocating if she gets it up over her head, but she usually doesn't. Let me just say she is 16 mos. I didn't let her sleep with ANYTHING until she was a year old!! I, too, am paranoid!! :) |

I would suggest to stay away from large blankets, and only use crib blankets, They are made light enough to lesson the chances of suffocation, and also crib blankets, comforters are small in size, therefore it gives your baby less blanket to get twirled up in. The only time Charlie sleeps under a big regular blanket is when hes in the bed with me, other than that i just give him his crib blanket. If the weather is warm where you live, try giving him a crib sheet. |

All my kids have used small, light weight blankets as babies. I have never had a problem. GL! |

Jack is 4 months and I have always laid him on top of a blanket, then wrapped the sides around him. Sometimes he kicks it off, but since his back is on the blanket, he can't pull it high enough to cover his face (just enough to feel sunggly). |

I asked my daughter ped the same thing when she was an infant. This is what he told me. Before I put a blanket into bed w/ her. First take the blanket, and hold it over your own face. Is it hard or easy to breathe through? He also recommended either a sleep sack for her to sleep in until she was 6-8 months old. Or using loosly knitted or crocheted blanket. Small of course. Stuffed animals are always a no-no for young babies. If your baby likes to fall asleep holding something soft, you can let her fall asleep w/ it, and then remove it from her crib. (The downside to this is that if she wakes during the night and the comfort object is not there, she may be unable to self soothe her self back to sleep.) |

Personally I never let my ds use a blanket while sleeping in his crib. He is 6 months old. If he's napping in his bouncy and I think it's a bit cool in here then I put one over him. I just dress him appropriately at night and don't use any blankets. Sometimes in order to get him to fall asleep I have to let him rub his 'nunu' over his face a bit then take it away. It's just like a small security blankie with a monkey sewn on the top. |
