At how many months of age did your baby start to sit independently and started to crawl?

britt_m - June 6th, 2008 3:36 PM

My now 1 year old sat by herself well by 4 1/2 months. But crawling was towards the end of her 8th month. She was going backwards on her belly for while before then. Not long after crawling she started pulling up but still refuses to try and let go, haha!

My dd sat independently at 5.5 months and she did the army crawl right at 7 months, but she didn't get on all fours to crawl until 8 months. She is 9.5 months now and she can pull to a stand and even lets go for a few seconds. She has taken a step once or twice but most of the time she will let go and then fall.

I should say all babies are different, my first sat at 6 months and crawled by 6.5 months and went straight to walking at 8 months. My second son sat at 7 months and crawled at 8.5 months and he didn't walk until 11 months.

My ds started sitting independently at 6 months and hands/knees crawling at 8 months. He started pulling up at 10 months and cruising at 11 months. He started walking at 13-14 months.

Hi! My dd has started to roll on her tummy just twice when she was about 4 months old and thats it and never did it again. She rolls to her left and right sides and sometimes sleeps on her either side since 4 months old. She has started to sit independently since 6.5 months old. Now she is already 7 months and 9 days old but never likes rolling and staying on her tummy or starts to crawl. She likes to sit independently and walks with support. I dont know why she hates to roll and stay on her tummy? Im afraid that she would start to walk independently before she could crawl!

My oldest ds was crawling around 7 months and walked around 9 months. My second ds crawled at 4 months and was walking at 7.5 months.AHH!! my last ds is 6.5 months and rolls over. He will not sit for more than a few seconds and has no interest in crawling. I still enjoy having one that can't really move! All kids are different.

my oldest was 5 mos. when she sat up by hersels and started crwiling around 7 mos. and walking at 10 mos. My 2nd was 4 mos. and started the army crawl, 6 mos. regular crawiling, 11 mos. walking. and my youngest now sat up at 6 mos. and started crawiling backwards only at 6 mos. forward crawling at 7 mos. and I think she'll be walking in about a month when she's 10 mos.

my daughter sat up at 4months but didn't crawl until almost 10 months and still isn't walking at almost 12 months. Oh well, late crawler and walker!! But she's 95%ile for weight so its harder for her to carry all that around (lol) hahaha!!

Sitting - 4.5 months. Crawling - 6.5 months. Cruising - 7 months. Now she is 9 months, and walks with a push cart that she likes. I think she enjoys crawling so maybe she'll wait to walk a while - it's more convenient to crawl.

My daughter started sitting independently around 6 months but she is now almost 7 months and likes to sit and play but I still need to put a boppy pillow around her in case she topples and I'm not nearby. If she gets excited or turns quickly to look at something she falls. She will not roll nor does she crawl yet. She pulls her knees in when on tummy and can lift her upper body off the floor with her arms, but doesn't get how to put it all together yet.

DDT - January 28th, 2009 5:55 PM

Ds2 started sitting independently at 5.5-6 months old. He is 8 months old now and gets onto his hands and knees to rock but hasn't figured out how to crawl yet. mitchsassy: there is nothing to worry about...babies do things on their own time. Most babies don't start crawling - if they do at all - until they are 8-9 months old.

One GRIM Mama - January 29th, 2009 12:54 AM

I am so glad I saw this question! I've been meaning to ask it. lol GRIM is now just shy of 5 months and has FINALLY accepted a few minutes of belly-floor time a day, so long as you do the rolled up towel at her chest thing. If you sit her up, she stays up fine, but eventually leans to one side and topples over. I've noticed lately that when I put her on the floor with her roll and her floor toy, she bellywiggles till she's bonking her head on the toy and has her hips over the roll and feet in the air. Then she gets thoroughly upset and indignant. Once she's gotten to that, there IS no getting her to stay on the blanket, it's all screams and anger without attempting to play with toy or move. She loves to "march" on poppa's legs, daddy's tummy, and my desk. If I say to her "UP lala UP" (lala being my name, a la dada, mama, papa, etc) while holding out my fingers, she'll grip them and pull herself up to sit from laying down in her bassinet.
