early labour it feels like your tummy is inflating like a balloon---till it gets really tight and then releases. As labour progresses you'll start feeling period like pains/gas pains (those you feel before you need to go to the loo for #2) with the tightenings. Then in the final stages of labour it feels like your body is getting rung out from the inside out-at that stage you don't feel pain in any particular spot, it's just all over your tummy, sides, back--where panties cover, you can't talk/think during them. and if your experiencing back labour then it feels like someone is sawing your spine. Hope that isn't too graphic, but that's the best I can do to describe it.
