Unfortunatly most at home things you can do to induse labor will only work if your baby and body are really ready. At 37 weeks its less likley to work. Im sure its not impossibe but just not as likley as if you were full term (40 weeks). But if you really really need to have the baby talk to your OB or midwife and let them know why. They may agree to induce. I know my SIL was induced at 37 weeks with her first just b/c her doc was going on vacation and didnt want anyone else delivering her. And ive heard of other people getting induced at that stage b/c they cant handle being pregnant any more. Good Luck

I understand how you feel about NEEDING to have this baby NOW! I've been trying like crazy to throw myself into labor, but all I am doing is frusterating myself. You can start ripening your cervix to help it dialate and efface before you do go into labor. Try apply evening primerose oil directally to your cervix, or just push the capsules (3-4) as far back into your vagina at night. Make sure to wear a pad, because the oil will drain some and make a mess. You can also take them orally. But make sure to talk to your doc or midwife bafore you do anything. You dont want to have to suffer through hours of contractions unnecesarally if your cervix isnt ripe, you also dont want your baby to suffer through unnecessary contractions. You can also use castor oil. Do research on the net and talk to your doc. Good luck!!

How can you check your cervix at home to see if it's doing anything?I felt up inside my vagina toward the front, and i felt something that the tip of my finger went into,is that my cervix? And after i did that i had a little bit of cramping.

When you are pregnant and not ready for labor, your cervix is posterior- tilted all the way back toward your bottom, long and hard like cartelige. If it's started to efface then it is soft and mushy like your lips or earlobe. It's really hard to explain and I am sorry if I am not helping much. You may have touched your cervix, but try not to do too much exploring. You don't want to irritate your cervix or get bacteria in there. Next time you go in for an appointment, mention it to your OB. They will be more then happy to explain your body to you in better detail then I could. I got allot of info off of the net. Hope this helped some.

Tassie (Tassie as in Australia?), why the rush? Your body probably just isn't ready for it yet, so anything you try at home will most likely not have eny effect.

it is possible to "soften the cervix" and prepare your'e self for labor sooner at 37 weeks, but unlikely to give birth, unless the baby is ready. I just turned 37 weeks, and i am softening my cervix, so that it may be easier for her to break my water. I have 2 children already, and found that it's easier labor if you have water broken before contractions. I'll be 38 weeks in two days, and hopefully i've done enough to help peanut not have to push down so hard. I am having pressure all of the time, and every now and then i will get a bad contraction, but nothing that ever makes me think she's ready. Helping the cervix can't hurt, just helping things along. Hope this helps.

NY Mama could you please tell me how you soften the cervix? I've heard of Evening Primrose capsules but I'm way too scared to try it! I'm hoping to go into labour as I have a c-section booked on the 25th and would love to try to have the baby on my own before it gets too big to come naturally!
