i tried castor oil twice and i didnt even get a single contraction either time and both times i took about 2oz...i did an enema the other day and it didnt work...i didnt even poop with the enema...ive been taking primrose pills and that help efface my cervix...but today im 39 weeks and i have the MOPS (miserable over pregnancy syndrome my doctor calls it) and im scheduled to start being induced at 7 pm tonight at the hospital so i will have my baby boy sometime tomorrow! so if your 39 weeks just tell your doc you have the mops and start crying like i did and they will most likely induce you...and most docs should know what mops is...good luck everyone! |

hi all. well ive been taking epo * evening primrose oil. on the advice of my dr. it has gla in it which your body makes prolastagin * sp?* with . since ive been talking it ive noticed ive been getting contractions . they arnt labour yet. just preperation ones. but its definately softening my cervix because from one week to the next i went from long and closed to short and 1cm. so i would suggest trying that. i was thinking about castor oil but i ended up getting the flu with HORRIBLE diareah anyways and it did nothign so i figure i coudlnt go through that agian. haha |

hi stacie, yes it dialated me to just a 1 but i only contracted for like 3 hours before my doc stopped them.this next friday i am going to do it again, and stay home for as long as i can so i dialate more and all that before i go to the hospital, even though the doc already said that he wont stop it an will finally allow me to go into labor.so good luck to you just remember that you really need to wait until you are at least 36 weeks orelse all your efforts will be for no reason, the hospital that i am going to deliever at said that they will stop labor if possiable unless medically nesessary until you are 36 weeks.thats just the rules.so good luck and i will let all know how things go friday with the castor oil and labor. :) |

When you took the castor oil, did you eat? before or after you took it? and how much? because when I took it only seemed to work after I ate. |

Doctor's opinion's in the US seem to vary (from what I keep reading on different posts). Doctor's opinions in the UK is a standard no, no. They firmly tell you over there that Castor Oil "may" be harmful. Just remember, anything you are taking, so is the baby. With that being said, I agree with one of the above posters. You have to weigh the risks verses benefits. I generally believe the baby comes when he is ready. However, I am only 23 weeks (with my first) and not suffering at the end yet, lol. So I may feel differently at the time. I just wanted to point out that Castor Oil "could" be dangerous. What percentage of risk it has, I've no idea. Just read up on it and do a little search and make yourself aware of the risks verses benefits before taking anything is all. Good luck all and grats on your baby girl Anna! |

of corse i am just speaking for myself but to the comment about taking up smoking... i would never put my baby in danger.my daughter was 1 and half months early and was a huge baby perfectly healthy, this baby is the same as far as my doctor says and he says i wont carry to full term anyways since my body is so small.dont judge anyone unless you yourself has been in thier shoes.some bodys just cant handle baby to full term.castor oil is natural.what is not ok is mother and baby being over stressed when it is preventable.im sorry you feel the way you do but i dont want negative comments like this to scare other women who are reaching out for help. |

Beth-I was two weeks overdue with a 10lb baby. This time I have a medical problem causing intense pain, yet I wait it out. I was in those shoes, twice, more so than most posting here. If there is a problem the doctor will induce you. That's a fact. There's never a reason to attempt it yourself. If the doctor won't there's NO medical reason-need-for it. It's simply a want in that situation. Any risk-even small-for a want is selfish. |

Beth-I also don't know what you consider small, however I'm 5' 6" and 100lbs not pregnant. I'm not big. |

Telling someone to take up smoking to have their baby is just foolish, not only is it dangerous for your baby but for you and everyone around you. Taking castor oil, drinking tea, walking, having sex is all natural safe ways to try to induce labor. And I dont know how you can say you have been in their shoes twice, because I know you havent been in mine, intense pain is the least of my worries, try that plus morning sickness your entire pregnancy, finding out your have cervical cancer, an ulcer, a heart diease, borderline gestational diabetes, and then have your fiance leave you and tell you he wishes you would die, and did I mention severe depression? every woman has thier own reasons to want to induce, not everyone can just take pain and handle it wheater emotional or psychical. And I really think the last thing these women need is someone like you coming on here and bashing them for making their own decisions. And I dont know how anyone could say that "wanting your baby" is selfish, if a woman is overdue then that is that, OVER due, meaning there is no reason why the baby cant already be here. Please if you dont have something nice or imformative to add to these post then I think we would all just rather not have you post at all. |

False. They're only safe if baby is ready and the safety of some methods is still questionable. Some midwives claim castor oil is safe, but they're not doctors. A midwife is what caused me to be in a wheelchair. She's a very reputable, highly respected and internationally known one too. There's good cause for why I'm seeing a doctor this time. Just because you hit 37 weeks does not mean the baby is ready. The smoking comment was sarcasm. I have many problems I don't care to share with you.You wouldn't trade places I assure you. If you needed to be induced your doctor would. If he won't there's a reason for it. Playing God and doctor is foolish. |

Is it not apparent you're all asking total strangers about inducing yourselves? Completely disregarding your doctors! As far as "selfish" goes, you decide. |

I'm also concerned about the "overdue" comment. How many of these woman are 42 weeks or greater? That is overdue. Due dates are an estimate, not a deadline . |
