I just tried the castor oil thing. Everybody I know says it works, but it didn't for me. I am 38 wks and huge, swollen, my back is in pain etc...I am trying the castor oil thing again but I am going to walk and try to stay mobile instead of doing it at night. I think it might help stimulate things down there. The way I see it is I can't sleep anyways and my baby is already big so..why not its worth all the poo to me.I will let ya all know what happens, oh and I heard cumin tea works too for dilation and breast milk production, go figure.

Is it really true about the spicy food thing and fresh pineapple. Can I buy the pineapple in a can

Cora - October 15th, 2005 12:11 AM

No, fresh pineapple is the only way. Canned pineapple has been processed, and the active ingredient I beleive its called bromine has been cooked out of it.

I am due nov.11 but is there anyway to get the process started earlier.

I tried the castor oil last night. All that happened was many trips to the bathroom, and I still feel sick this morning. I'm going to try and walk around the rest of the day to see if I can get contractions started.

monica - November 15th, 2005 1:21 AM

i think doing alot of walking would help go into labor

I've read that castor oil is fine on the baby, but you do have to be VERY careful with dehydration!!!! Fetal distress causes a premature bowel movement by the baby, not castor oil. Don't worry your baby won't be getting a dose of castor oil through the umbillical cord. AND... as many of you have learned, it doesn't always work. Your body has to be ready for labor for it work. Basically it causes contractions in your bowels and intestines (which causes the pooping) which can jumpstart labor contractions, BUT... your uterus has to be ready... which is probably why it worked well for Anna at 40 weeks and 3 days. It may not be quite as effective at 37 - 38 weeks; however, if your uterus is ready at 37-38 weeks, it may work then as well. Again, its not a miracle, but if you are near or past the due date, its worth a try as long as you stay hydrated.
