Do you think whether the water breaks has ANYTHING to do with genetics? My mother is just absolutely convinced that i won't dialate at all and my water will just break (like she did). Which ... i'm 37 weeks now & 0 dilated ... so she's right so far ... but ... i mean i still have a few weeks! I just wanted an opinion.

My mother had to be induced with me (she was 3 weeks overdue) and was 3 weeks overdue and her water did not break (the doctor broke it for her when she was in labour). I went a week early and my water broke on it's own. I think it's all random. What will happen will happen. Good luck!

my moms water broke with my brother, and my water broke with my first---concidering that your water is only suppose to break in 15% of women--there's a chance...but it could also be random

No, it is not genetic, it just happens by chance.

I think it just happens by chance too, my mum and my sister both had to have their waters broken my mum with all 5 of hers and my sister with her 2. Mine popped all on its own..THANKFULLY! I was so ready :o)

Considering just a small percentage of women actually have their water break before contractions I got very lucky. With both of mine my water broke on their due dates....odd. It is nice not having to question weather or not you are in true labor
