For me, contractions with my first were a low pain- like on the bottom part of your rounded belly (at least that is how they started). Then they went from back to front. The thing I remember most was that they were like nothing I had ever felt- even in the beginning when they weren't that bad. Infact, I sent DH off to a bachellor party :) What does it feel like when the baby comes out... I have used the analogy :Like someone squirting lighter fluid around the vaginal opening and lighting it on fire. At least for me, it hurrt THAT much. But it WAS WORTH EVERY BIT OF PAIN! |

It's an incredible pain, like nothing youv'e ever felt or could begin to explain. It is also scary. My first time I was in labor for 72 hours. I was 18 and it was more than I expected. Have you ever experienced beening insane with pain? I had no pain relief. I |

I am 25 with one son... I recon that every labor is differant. I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant and so confused. My experience so far this time is so differant than the first time. And yes, its a boy again. I have been getting the same uncomfortable feeling(you can feel your joints, hips..whatever separating) for days now. But with my first son, I had it the day before I went in to labor. Labor pains effects each person differantly. I have back problems, so with my first son, all my my labor pains was in my lower back. I still don't know how it's going to be this time. All I know...the moment your baby is out... NO MORE PAIN! It's such a relief and you don't even think of all that pain anymore. You just want to hold your baby and count his fingers and toes. I had no drugs, 10 hours of labor, I started getting light cramps by my bellybutton 1 o'clock in the morning. No sleep. It was hell and I was tired!! Having your baby is no walk in the park and yes it is gross! Trust me, seeing all the afterbirth and water, etc coming out of your own body, it's not beautiful! What is, is YOUR BABY. Don't worry about how much pain you are going to have to endure, worry about your baby and how good it will feel to hold him/her. |

The actual labor is hard, a lot of back pain, but when the baby actually comes out that isnt what hurts, u may feel some pressure.. I was crazy when I had my first, i thought it hurt when the baby come out but not the contractions... Boy was I in for a big surprise.. I never really could feel the baby come out my biggest was 7lbs 12 oz and most of the time I had someone rubbing my back cause thats what hurt.. and I HATE when they always want to push your feet back and your knees are up around your head.. I will NOT let them do that to me, I tell them I wont push till u leave me alone and DEFINETELY I had to have an episiotimy, cause its not fun to rip. I ripped with my 2nd and I couldnt sit for 2 weeks, with my first and third i had the episiotimy and it wasnt bad at all.. and guess what once the baby is out and ur holding him/her u wont remember a lot of it, i dont remember much of my 3 labors, i know it was painful, but it was well worth it.. |

I have been having this awful feeling and I think its labor. Its like really bad gas pains sometimes and other times it feels like someone is taking a belt and tightening it around my stomache until I feel like I'm going to throw up. In between I feel like I'm either going to throw up or have a really bad case of diarriha. Is this what contractions really feel like or did dinner just not agree with me? |

I am 34 weeks pregnant now, and I believe that I have only experienced braxton hicks contractions. but the way that my contractions seem to feel now is like the baby is balling up and it makes my stomach feel so hard that I have to sit back to be able to breath. I know they are not real contractions because they will go away after a while, and I have them most of the time when I am sitting at my desk at work. |

I thought all those pains I was having were the baby moving around-now I'm wondering if they are BH... is that what they feel like- the baby pushing up and out on me'belly? |

Gretchen...I know exactly what you're talking about. I thought it was the baby too...but it feels like he stretches...then stops. It's tight and then it goes away right? |

Hi I am 39weeks and 4 days. I have been having contractions since my 25th week. They feel like a slow tightening of you stomach. You can even feel your stomach and it will be very hard. Sometimes they can hurt. Good luck to everyone. I hope I go soon because I get so many contractions and still no baby. Be happy you haven't felt them yet because they are very painful and annoying...especially when you don't go into labor! |

The truth is that all women experience the sensation of giving birth very differently. It depends most on your state of mind....are you afraid and tense, or are you confident and relaxed? My experiences with women in labor lead me to believe that your state of mind is by far the biggest factor as to what you experience during the birth of your baby. I have 2 boys and experienced awesome and powerful births, but I would never describe them as painful. sirfamily@usa.com |

Someone asked why you should lay on your left side during pregnancy. Well I'm 40 weeks pregnant and I don't know if anyone can agree but i just want to ask, Have you tried laying on your left side to see how you feel?? well I've been told that laying on your left side takes preasure off your uterus found that I could sleep alot better when I layed on my left side. also I read someoine saying that they don't know what a doula is. Its basiclly someone who has been trained to work with you and talk to you through your pregnancy and labor. My mom's best friend is my doula and she is also a registered nurse so she has been one of the most helpfull people in my life besides my mom and my midwife. But since I have her I didnt have to spend 80 dollars to take some stupid breathing class that my hospital wanted me to go through. but good luck on all you future mommies. This is my first kid but I know with all the love and support of my mother and doula and my sweetie and strength from whatever diety you believe there to be. I'm looking to the virgin mother and mother earth for strength any body can get through childbirth with or without med's. |
