What Do Labor Pains And Contractions Actually Feel Like?
|
||
|
I have 3 children. One just born a little over a month ago. The birth was different with each. My 1st I was induced and I had an epidural which kicked out about 8 hours later, right before I started pushing. I pushed for 2 hours before the doctor had to use forceps to pull him out. My second I was also induced, and I had demerol as a pain killer which didn't take away the pain, but made me feeling to messed up to think about them. I could not get it after 8cm. When it came time to push, pushing during the contractions actually relieved the pain of the contraction. After only 15 minutes of pushing, out he came. My 3rd baby came naturally. Oh boy was that a tough labor! I couldn't get any pain medication because of the baby's heart hate, and the pushing hurt like hell. |

i am 38 +3 with my third child and i am too scared to have an epidural and i have not had one with my first two either. I just took the demerol shot. i found that that really helped me. it doesn't totally kill the pain but it does really take the sharp edge off and makes it more tolerable. i have had this with my first who was 9.6 lbs and my second who was 8.1 lbs and i delivered both naturally. this is also my plan for this little one when i finally get to the hospital. |

Get the epidural. You have the same results as everyone with a "natural" labor except no pain. |

you don't need an epidural. I used natural breathing techniques and the support of a doula to help me with the pain. Labor is not as bad as society makes it out to be. Labor is very strong/intense tightning of the uterus. Pushing the baby out is like pooping a squishy watermelon , it does feel like an intense bowel movement then theres a ring of fire when the head crowns, believe me this isn't as bad as it sounds. Sure it's intense but the more you relax your muscles the easier it is. |

I dunno but I really dont care for folks who tell me what I should and shouldnt do. Having a natural childbirth or having drugs is a personal choice that everyone has to make. Labor is different for all women and some have a way higher pain tolerence than others. Do what you think is the best thing for you. |

I had a tooth absess at the beginning of this pregnancy where I was only allowed to take tylenol. if i could handle that then i can handle drug free labor. Yes labor hurts but just imagine how it feels for the baby. |

I am in the same dilema. I have two children but did not go into natural labor with either one. I am now 38 weeks pregnant and believe that I am in the early stages of labor with alot of lower back pain. But I am not sure. I have read what everyone else has said and it does seem different for everyone so I guess at best just take in all of the info given and judge for yourself. If in doubt call your doctor or go to the hospital the worst that could happen is that they send you home. |

I had all natural back labor . A contraction for me starts mild for a few seconds and like a rollercoaster shoots up to sharp unbearable pain that makes your whole body tense up just to survive this torture. Then as the pain eases, it shoots around to the abdomen and tries to make it want to explode and tightens your whole belly. |

Hey Aliya, with my first child I only had 2 shots of demerol for pain. Even though the demerol eased the pain, it made me very sick to my stomach, so I threw up in between contractions. Therefore, I personally do not recommend that, unless you ask your Dr. to also give you phenergan to help with the nausea. The is also something called Intrathecal. It is also know as a walking epidural which is supposed to numb your abdomin but you still have the urge to push. From what my midwife says that only downside to this is a burning sensation. Also, Nubane is supposed to be a good injection for pain if you are against an epidural. I am getting ready to have my second child and have looked into all of these methods. I personally am going to begin with Nubane and if I have to have more than that I will go with the intrathecal. The onset for the intrathecal is about 2 minutes whereas an epidural may take up to 20 minutes to begin working. Good luck with your pregnancy. |

get the epidural after your water breaks. i will be honest and say i went to the hospital for high blood pressure to only discover i was contracting every 3 minutes. i felt one pain after they broke my water (i was in labour for 16 hours according to the machines by the time this happened - still painless) and a slight burn when i tore during delivery (only needed two stitches). i really did NOT have contractions that i felt. there are women out there that don't hurt at all, and i turned out to be one of them. i was in "labour" for my mother was the same way and i assumed when she told me her experiences that she was trying not to scare me, but it turned out that she really did have painless labour and births. dont go in assuming you will be in pain - tension and anxiety can make it worse. remember this is a natural process, let your body do whatever it needs to do. best to you in your upcoming labour and delivery. its amazing to see your baby for the first time! enjoy :) |
