5 Week Sonogram

I had a sonogram at exactly 5 weeks because of brown spotting and cramping went to the Emergency room and was given a sonogram and HCG blood test, my sonogram showed that I was exactly 5 weeks no days, my HCG level was 13,000. They saw the sac but nothing else, so they had me come back the next day to see if my HCG levels increased or decreased they increased to 18,000. I'm now scheduled for another sonogram which I should be exactly 6 weeks pregnant. Should I be concerned that they only saw the sac at 5 weeks and no fetal pole?

Hi Tamara, I am no expert but I don't think you should be concerned about that. I wouldn't worry until 6 1/2-7 weeks, when they can see the heartbeat.
The only thing is your HCG: were they taken exactly 24 hours apart, or less? I read somewhere that they should double, but I could be mistaken.

Tamara - I answered you on another post, but just wanted to reassure once again. Your HCG levels should double every 48 hours (not 24). And they won't be able to see anything but a sac at 5 weeks. Sometimes, even a day can make a HUGE difference at this early stage. With on pg they saw only a sac at 5w5d, and with another of my pgs, they saw a heartbeat at 6w1d. Try not to worry.

Hi Everyone, went to the doctor today and had an ultrasound, we had some progression they saw the yolk today last week it was just an empty sac. They have me scheduled for another sonogram next week hopefully we can see a fetal pole. We are still optimistic. Please keep us in your prayers.
