Hi, I am 28 and am pregnant with my first. I am only a few weeks, so I told my family too soon as I was so excited. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2002, and was have been hospitalized for it three times. My family is so concerned with me having another episode, or passing it on to the baby and they are voicing their concerns the wrong way. I spend the afternoon so upset and crying. So... I guess my question is are any of you going through the same thing and if so are you on any medication for it? How are you dealing with negative responses?

Congrats on your pregnancy! First, you can't "pass on" bipolar disorder to your child, that is just ridiculous. Obviously your doctor should monitor you closely throughout your pregnancy due to your condition. Have you checked out the compatibility of your meds with pregnancy? Alot of them can be dangerous to a baby. Sounds like your family is causing you more problems rather than being supportive and helping. Talk to your doctor about how you are feeling and your meds. Good luck!
