It is normal for some women to have bleeding during the course of their pregnancies, so long has the bleeding is not accompained by sharp pains or clotting. If you are concerned see your doctor. Some women have been known to have their periods the whole time they are pregnant and everything turns out fine. |

I have been having the same problems for about 1 week. I am 11 weeks pregnant. From what I have been told, it is normal as long as it is not accompanied by severe cramping or bright red blood. I was told that it could be dried blood. I also have been going crazy with fear and can't wait to get out of the first trimester. |

I have been having a brownish stringy discharge since Wednesday. I saw the dr on Thursday and she did an ultrasound and still saw the sac but no heartbeat. I am only 5 weeks pregnant and they say that is normal. Nonetheless, I am scared and just trying to pray and be positive. |

I am 7 wks and was also having a brownish discharge. I had an ultrasound and they found dried blood around the sac which meant it partially detached from my uterus. The doctor said there is a 2/3 chance everything will be fine, but a 1/3 chance of miscarriage. |

I had brownish spotting with my first pregnancy and I ended up having what is called a blighted ovum and lost the baby. It can be normal to spot but additude ever since then has been to expect the worst but hope for the best. That way your not as disapointed in the end if something does go wrong. |

I am about 6 weeks pregnant. I've been having a very slight brown discharge since yesterday. I had an ultra sound done today, and all is well, could see the baby's heartbeat which was very reassuring. The Dr says its not dangerous, but if the discharge gets any heavier and I experience cramping, that I should come back for another scan. He also found some fibroids on my uterous, which could be the cause of some pain. I think the best we can do is to relax, don't stress too much and pray that God will take care of our unborn babies. |

I had unprotected sex like 5 days ago, and have been having a brownish discharge. Could this be a sign of pregnancy or something else? I really hope it doesn't. |

Unfortunalely, there is no way to tell for sure what is going on. I would speak to you doctor. Many women experience some bleeding in the first trimester and there babies are come to term healthy. There is some cause for concern if you are bleeding heavily and having cramping in the middle lower abdomin, or in your back. At any rate, it doesn't hurt to communicate with whoever is following your care-medically speaking. Good luck to you! |

Jen who wrote in on Aug. 3 and told us she had brownish spotting and ended up with a blighted ovum. I really need your help!!! The Dr.and I too think I have a blighted ovum. I keep looking everywhere on the net for info but can't find any answers to these questions. First off, a little history...had 4 neg. urine tests and then finally a pos. blood test with a very low hcg level-86. This was the first indication of a blighted ovum. I am now six weeks and my last test was 525 hcg. Still very low! I have also had brown spotting for a week today. I am going for another ultrasound next week. The last one I had they couldn't see anything. Jen here are my questions: How far along were you when they realized it was a blighted ovum, how did they come to realize this, low hcg levels, ultrasound? Did you have a D&C or miscarry? If miscarry what happened, like did you eventually bleed red blood instead of brown, have pain? Expel clots? I hear that this could take up to 16 weeks to miscarry. If you could give me all the info possible about this I would so appreciate it. Also, if Jen doesn't come to this forum any longer maybe someone else can answer my questions. I really need someone's help! Thanks |

Jen or anyone else. I am also eager to know what your hcg levels were like. I know even with a blighted ovum even though there is no embryo present, there is still a placenta that secretes hcg hormones until the body finally realizes that the pregnancy is not viable My first bloodtest, the hcg was 86. 3 days later...175. This was a good sign because it doubled in 72 hours like it was supposed to. Then 6 day later it should have been 700 but was only 525. Does your levels eventually decrease and if so how high did you get on your hcg count and when does it start to decrease? Does the decrease happen fast? Sorry for all the questions, but I have been dealing with this it feels like forever. I am going to the Dr.'s again on Tues. for another blood test. |

I am about 6 weeks pregnant and was also having a brownish discharge. I went to the hospital last night (May 25/05) and had blood work and swab tests done. The reason for my brown discharge is because my hormone level increased very quickly. I also had cramping in the abdomen area and had nausea. The doctor reassured me that everything is O.K. and that I shouldn't over to it. I am quite relieved and can't wait to have my baby! |
