yeah ruth, the did a bikini cut incision, but my fibroid was in the bottom, so my OB ended up doing a clasic incision on my uterus up high- it felt weird, cause it was so high i could kinda feel it her digging around in there!! like right below my ribs!! but recovery was just fine, i couldn't tell the difference, and even though the C section sucked, baby and i are fine, and within 2 weeks i felt back to my old self- oh, i was pretty swollen for those first few weeks, because of all the manhandeling on my uterus, and did get a minor infection on my incision too, but again those things healed up pretty quick too.....good luck in 2 weeks- i worried so much, and it came out ok, you'll be just fine, it helps that the drs know what they are dealing with-- i had 3 dr's in my OR!!! im not sure if the fibroid is shrinking yet, havent had an u/s- lets hope!! apparently breast feeding really helps it shrink!

hello ladies. well I had to tell you guys this one. I have a large one 12cm and I miscarried in July. Based on how it happened, it was probably an incompetent cervix, meaning I was fully diulated with no pain by the time I got to the hospital. But I am sure that the fibroid did not help. Well in my recovery, I did everything in my power to find out why it happened and to make sure that I did all I could to make sure that it does not happen again. I have met with 4 doctors, and all are on the fence execpt for one. She told me to have the operation. She told me that I would never be able to carry to term if I did not. She then told me that before the operation she wanted to inject me with Lupron. That would put me in a menapusal state and would help with the bleeding associated with the surgury. Well am 30 years old and the thought of that so young, freaked me out more than the fibroid. Am glad to read your posts. Helps me feel better with my decision not to have the operation.

SAJ- I am so sorry about your loss. My doctor's are confusing me also. I have a 9cm fibroid right now that was close to 13 when I lost the baby at 11 wks. I really would like to give it another try but want to make sure I can carry to term.

SAJ - November 9th, 2005 12:06 AM

Hey Mindy, am sorry about your loss. I took a long time going back and forth and trying to make sense of the whole thing. And I just went with what my gut was telling me. I would prefer to do the bed rest thing rather than the dangers of an operation. I know what the signs of my miscarriage were(extra discharge, a little blood, and pain all through my legs) so if any of that happens again, am going straight to the hospital. I fear a second loss, I really do, but I fear not being to every have kids because some doctor messed up more. you see unlike most things there is no "consumer report" to rate doctors. Its all hear say, or recomendations. But man is flawed, hense me and this fibroid. So am taking my chance with a little more prayer and rest. I really hope that you come to your decision soon and with a littl less stress. Good luck to you. If you need to talk email me at aminareds@hotmail.com

My sis-in-law's sis got pregnant for the first time at 40: had a fibroid the size of a grapefruit.....had a healthy baby girl

An update!
My (not so) little girl was born 1 week early by emergency caesarean on Nov 7. Labour was going fine until she basically got stuck. Can't really blame the fibroid, more the fact she was 9lb 9oz, had a large head and was posterier (head down but facing the wrong way). It was a lower section caesar luckily because baby had pushed past the fibroid. Good luck to all of you who are trying to get pregnant or are pregnant. Congratulations to those who have just had babies.

Hi I have a fibroid on my uterus also. So far it's small, I'm 26 weeks. Good luck to all!!

Denise - December 3rd, 2005 7:58 AM

I've had all 6 of my fibroids removed. Less than a year later (without trying) I'm pregnant! Never doubt nature.

Bridget - December 4th, 2005 10:28 PM

To Margaret Jeans: I am pg and my dr. said that it depends on where the fibroid is as to whether he can remove it when they do the c-section and yes, they are supposed to shrink after delivery.I sure hope they do. I had 4 fibroids surgically removed on May 4th and got pg (very unexpectedly)by the first week in June and now have 2-3 new fibroids already! And I don't think fibroids are ever (or rarely) cancerous, so I'm not too surprised that he didn't do a biopsy.

DEBORAH - December 16th, 2005 12:47 AM

I AM 17 WEEKS PREGNAT AND 35 YEARS OLD. I HAVE 1 FIBROID THAT IS 10 CM. I AM CURRENTLY HAVE CONTRACTIONS APPROX. 2 MIN APRT FOR THE PAST 2 DAYS. MY DOCTOR IS VERY GRIM ABOUT MY POSSIBILITY OF CONTINUING. I AM CURRENTLY TAKING PROMETRIUM TWICE A DAY VAGINALLY.

tonester - December 22nd, 2005 10:08 AM

My situation is similar to Sarah (see Nov 7th post)--I am currently 14 weeks (1st time pg), and have four growing fibroids, largest about 6 cm. I had two days of cramping followed by five days of soreness and ligament pain at 11 weeks, attributed to fibroids. Now at 14 weeks, the cramping returned for two days, unbearable at night, followed again by a few days of dull pain/soreness, especially on my left side and left lower back. My Dr. is letting me take ibuprofen (thankfully--Tylenol does nothing) and says pain is from fibroids. My concern is, how often does fibroid pain occur? Does it eventually subside, or will I have to deal with this throughout my pregnancy?

michellem - January 17th, 2006 10:24 AM

i am not sure if i have a cyst or am carrying twins, i am 11 wks pregnant with my fourth child and the dr says it feels as though i have one or the other is there any way of telling the difference before my scan i am very impatient?

Carol S - January 21st, 2006 4:08 PM

Wow that was a lot of reading. I'm very glad for it. There haven't been many posts lately, but I hope they start up again. I am 42. I am 17 wks with what I hope will be my 7th child. I have had spotting from the start and PAIN!!! My first doctors apointment they found a fibroid. It was not there when I had a mc in July '05. When it went from spotting to bleeding I was told it might also be placenta previa. The ulra sound isn't until Tuesday 1/24. But I'm very anxious. The PAIN and BLEEDING are scary. I have had 3 miscarriages in the past. I don't take them well and I am so scared. I have been on bed rest while bleeding and pelvic rest the rest of the time for over a month. Please post. Thanks. Michellem, I know how you feel. I hate the waiting. I want to know if my baby is ok, and if it will be able to stay in long enough to make it. :-(
