Hi, I have read all of these posts and am finding a lot of comfort in them. I had the surgery to remove my fibroids and fix the shape of my uterus (I had a bi-cornate usterus) and I am now 15 weeks pregnant. I also have 5 fibroids that have grown since the surgery. I went to the doc yesterday for severe pain and he said it was from the fibroids, but he couldnt tell if they were degenerating or not. He told me to take ibuprofen and gave me darvocet so I could sleep at night. Does anyone know how long these painful episodes last? I am on day three and OH MY GOSH! it hurts so bad.

Hi ladies, I have a fibroid on my uterus and I need a c-section because of where it is. The dr said it could obstruct the birth canal. I'm scheduled for March 4. Does anyone know if they can remove the fibroid when I'm in for a c-section?

stephanie - February 9th, 2006 2:16 PM

rk: My doctor told me that that blood flow to the uterus is so high because of the pregnancy and to remove my fibroids would be risking hemorrage even further. So, I don't think it is common for them take out fibroids during a c-section. It should shrink after the birth anyway. Good luck to you... If you have time after your baby is born give us an update, I am in the same situation, but I am not due until Aug 3rd. They are going to take it as early as they can because they dont want me to have any contractions. I have some scar tissue due to uterine surgery 2 years ago and the scar tissue is another hemorrage risk.

Thanks, Stephanie I didn't think that it would be a good idea. Are you on bedrest? Good luck to you too!!

stephanie - February 9th, 2006 8:44 PM

I am not on bedrest. My doctor has said nothing about taking it easy even! I have a home daycare and care for 6 children everyday. I asked him about picking them up and he said as long as they are under 40 pounds not to worry about lifting them. So I guess he is not concerned about anything I do to cause extra problems. At least not yet. Are you on bedrest? Have you had any pain due to you fibroids? I am having HORRIBLE pain right now. He gave me darvocet and said the pain was from the fibroids and as long as I am not bleeding not to worry about it. Even the darvocet isnt taking all the pain away.... sometimes I just want to cry it hurts so bad. He said it shouldnt last for long though.

Stephanie, I was on bedrest since 30 weeks since I had premature labor due to dehydration. I'm not on total bedrest since I'm closer to my due date but just have to take it easy. I haven't had any pain from the fibroids that I know of. I have so many aches & pains I don't know what's what! lol. Sorry to hear you're in so much pain from them!

When I got pregnant I was told I had a 16 cm fibroid. During pregnancy it grew to 23 cm. I had a healthy baby boy at 39 weeks. I did run into complications about

Lana - February 10th, 2006 10:07 AM

oops clicked submit by accident. Anyways...I had complications about 1 week after giving birth I started experiencing fevers that made me quite ill. I was hospitalized for another week. It turns out the fibroid degenerates and can cause fevers (apparently rare though). Just some information for those concerned. The good news is I had no problems conceiving and the baby was fine.

I do love all you guys for making this chat so informed....Here's what I know at this point, and would love more feedback on pain or complications....I have a 7cm fibroid, Doc is "shocked" I'm not in pain...WHATEVER....I am 31 weeks, very worried at first because all I heard was NEGATIVE.."excessive bleeding", "hemmoraging", "hysterectame"...and nothing tellingme how this fibroid relates to ME!! So I finally put my foot down. Simply we are in a position to wait, wander, and worry.....I know they will not remove the fibroid during my Csection due to the increased blood vessels, BUT the complication could be the uterus not contracting after birth there fore causeing hemmoraging, and to stop that bleeding a hysterectomy may be needed....I'm thinking they gave me "worse scenarios" cuz at this point I've had no pain....tell me about the pain guys, and why no bed rest fro you STEPHANIE??? I have 8 weeks to go and I"m already ready for them to put me out in the next 4 weeks....whether they are ready to or not....I would think with pain they would tell you to rest?? Interesting?? Please tell me your week, the sizeof your fibroid, and any comp;ications and DR advise you've had...I appreciate it!!! COUNTING DOWN!!

I have 5 fibroids, ranging in original size from 2.2 cm to 6 cm. I know they all have grown, but at this point I do not know how big they are. I should find out more about that in 2 weeks when I have my next sono. I am currently 15 weeks and 2 days. I had surgery 2 years ago to fix a bi-cornute uterus and to remove several fibroids in my uterine cavity. I never had a rescan after the surgery before I got pregnant so I had no way of knowing that 5 had grown again. I dont think these 5 are on the inside though. They are on the outter wall and shouldn't affect the growth of the baby. I was also told, that I would not be able to get pregnant with out drug therapy due to low hormones, but I guess they were wrong about that. I just talked to my doc again today ( I am a friend of the family as well as his patient) and he said I should expect pain uneil the third trimester when the uterus growth rate slows down. It hurts a lot right now because of the fast growth. I am not on bedrest because I haven't been bleeding. There is little risk to the baby just because of the growing fibroids. I asked about the fibroids irritating the uterus causing pre-mature labor and he said it was very slight and not to spend any time worrying about it. Lastly, with the shrinking after the birth and the fibroids, I think my chance of a hysterectomy is fairly high. In fact, I might just schedule it or at least tell them not to take any measures to save it. After my uterus serves its purpose as a home for my baby, I'll say goodbye to it. Its caused me a lot of pain over the years. My periods have always been heavy and painful and I bleed at least 2 weeks a month if not more, all because of the damn fibroids. I am SOOOO very thankful I got pregnant unexpectedly though. What a blessing and I'll deal with the pain for now.

I have 4 fibroids all ranging in size. I am 12 weeks and have been on bed rest since week 9. While I was released during week 10 I was placed back on during week 11. I have had so much pain and discomfort with episodes that are worse if that can be possible. They are the worse I have had two bad episodes with such pain, spotting, I really thought I was having a miscarriage both times I go to the doc and everything with baby is A ok. So while this is killing me at times baby is ok which is what is important. I am just going out of my mind with bed rest. To all I wish you all luck. I can say while most people don't have problems with their fibroids the ones that due is no picnic. If I had a choice to get them removed I would have before hand. They were tiny and I too was told they would cause no problems. Needless to say I don't think I will take that light next time and this time I am thinking is the last because of all the pain and discomfort I have had. Good luck all!

Anne - February 12th, 2006 11:31 PM

I had a fibroid disocvered at around 12 weeks. It was still there at 21 weeks and it was larger. Because of a possible issue with the fetus unrelated to fibroid) I had another sonogram at 26 or 27 weeks and the sonographer could not even find the fibroid.

stephanie - February 13th, 2006 7:37 AM

Stacey: I feel for you. I know exactly how you feel with the pain and the spotting and the worry. I went to the ER yesterday because along I started bleeding. It was more than spotting, but it had stopped by the time we got there. The pain keeps waking me up at night, after the drugs wear off. I am not on bedrest, but I sure wish someone would put me on it! Have you found anything that particularly helps with the pain? WHat painkkillers are you taking? I am taking darvocet but it doesnt really do the trick. Just kind of dulls it, and then only sometimes. ARRRRRGH! I feel for you. BTW, I am 15 weeks, This all started for me just last week.

Stacey - February 13th, 2006 12:12 PM

Stephanie,
I feel for you too! I have been miserable for the past month. I have these episodes that are flare ups with bleeding a little more than normal spotting, pain that is sometimes unbearable on the whole left side. It causes so many problems between constipation, naseau, vomitting, hip and back pain. Its unreal. THen my normalness is just pain localized to that left side for the most part. I can't get comfortable. TO be honest laying down helps on my side with my leg up. The problem is i have to constantly move to get recomfortable. Very many sleepless nights. They gave me vicodin for the pain. Sure it helps for the 2-3 hours, but then i am more miserable. Sucks to say the least :) They put me on bedrest not only because of the fibroids, but I had a small tear which has sense regressed. However, for me to even sit on a normal day is impossible to do more than a few minutes at a time. Reason, we found the fibroid is pressing against my rectum. Which also doesn't help with constipation. I didn't ask for bedrest but I think they can tell from my pain that I wouldn't make it. I am working from home when I can, but that is only during these next few weeks I go next week for another check in and i have a nasty feeling I will be stuck on bedrest because of these flare ups. Especially with the bleeding. I get these gooshes of blood small amount, but scarey enough. I called the doctor the first two times. Now I know what to look for wait an hour. It always ends up dark brown which shows old blood, just any bleeding is scarey. Keep your heads up and talk to your doctor and be honest with how your pain is. Reason I wasn't forth coming at first trying to be tough guy, not a good idea. Good luck!!!!

Hi everyone - I posted here a few weeks ago. My MYO is scheduled for 3/22 (boohoo - I'm totally nervous). I am really stressed but after 2 miscarriages it's the only the reason the docs can point to. It's such a drag because they cannot PROVE the fibroids caused them both to happen. The first went to 14 weeks and then MC'd, but there was a twin I lost at 7 weeks who was proven to have a chromosomal abnormality. The other baby was normal though. Then the 2nd Mc (if you can believe this - twins again) had both babies implant right around my largest fibroid, but they never had hearbeats. So 3 opinions and all 3 docs said to get them out. But, it's totally hit or miss if you're going to have problems. MANy women have limited problems.
