Hi everyone - I posted here a few weeks ago. My MYO is scheduled for 3/22 (boohoo - I'm totally nervous). I am really stressed but after 2 miscarriages it's the only the reason the docs can point to. It's such a drag because they cannot PROVE the fibroids caused them both to happen. The first went to 14 weeks and then MC'd, but there was a twin I lost at 7 weeks who was proven to have a chromosomal abnormality. The other baby was normal though. Then the 2nd Mc (if you can believe this - twins again) had both babies implant right around my largest fibroid, but they never had hearbeats. So 3 opinions and all 3 docs said to get them out. But, it's totally hit or miss if you're going to have problems. MANy women have limited problems.

Melissa K I feel for you I really do I had a miscarriage last summer. No one knew what it was do other than nature. I was 9weeks. I can't believe twice with twins! Good luck with MYO to be perfectly honest if I had to do all over again I would def. get an MYO before if I knew I had these going on again no matter the size. Reason the miscarrige and now my issues I am having. Its so stressful and painful its not worth it if there can be something to try first. I know the risks which are scarey, but they are there too if you don't have them and miscarriage after miscarriage is more painful not to mention these pesky suckers caused me so many problems that I wouldn't curse on my worse enemy :) Good luck and best wishes!

Hi Melissa! I had a myo 2 years ago. After I started trying to get pregnant, it took me 10 months and by the time I was pregnant 4 fibroids had grown back!!! So, now I have 4 fibroids and I am pregnant. I am 16 weeks now and aside from the pain from the fibroids ( I agree with you Stacy, its the worst pain ever!) , the pregnancy is going well. Good luck with the surgery, and dont stress about it. It will be fine. Let us know how it goes! I am so glad I found this thread and there are other people going through the same things I am. Not that I am happy you all are in pain, but I am not the only one!

I have a uterin fibroid, and had a healthy baby boy and had a natural child birth. There is hope.

hi there everyone! i am 15 wks pregnant and i am in a lot of abdominal/pelvic pain as well as backaches due to partly growing pains and hunching over in pain. went to the ER last night and thy found a fibroid 10cm on the outside. the baby was moving and kicking during the u/s. i am very scared because i read minimal things abt successful pregnancies with painful fibroids and i dont know much abt fibroids(causes, pain relief, etc)other than the pain i am experencing. any info/advice? thanks

skn331 - February 22nd, 2006 8:44 AM

Hi Christa... I was doing some research yesterday and discovered a study done on women with multiple fibroids. (as you only have one I would worry even less than these women) Fibroids can increase the chance for miscarriage by 12%. That being said, most problems from fibroids occur when the placenta is located OVER a fibroid. And the problems result from plscental seperation. Red degeneration (when a fibroids outgrows its blood supply and dies) is very painful, but causes no adverse affects on the pregnancy. Fibroids growa two thirds of the time in the first trimester, two thirds of the time in the second trimester and less than 10% of the time in the thrid trimester. They can cause pain aside from degenerating when the uterus grows. I have had some slight bleeding/painful episodes that I am SURE are from my fibroids but the doc says the baby is just fine, placenta is just fine, cervix is tightly closed. So I am trying not to worry about it. I wish I had bookmarked the website I got the info from, it was just one study remember, but it seemed pretty reassuring. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Christa,
Fibroids are not common, but happen at least that is what I was told by my doctor. Some like the hormones during pregnancy. Hence the grow drastically especially in early pregnancy. I am now in my 15 week and have had 3 major episodes of bad pain, constipation, bleeding (no more than a little), the pain was horrendous to say the least. They gave me vicodin to use sparingly. HOwever during my episdoes I also got really stomach sick and couldn't keep food down or want to eat. So i didn't take but one vicodin that stayed down. I have read pain medication is not absorbed by the baby which is good, but not to be taken to the point of becoming addicted.
Anyway that being said I have read that people have successful pregnancies with fibroids and I have read the opposite, but just take it easy. i was put on bed rest due to how much pain I was in and I had small tear. I was just semi released! However, I still can't do any lifting, no sex, no exericising, just take it easy. If your in that much pain the best thing to do is rest its really the only thing I felt like doing. My largest fib. was pushing against my rectum so sitting was painful! It feels like you can never get comfortable to especially during sleepy time! Just try and relax my longest episode lasted 6 days. Then poof gone. I still have pain, but my episodes are flare ups. My doctor can't explain it. Just try and stay positive and know your not crazy and your not the only one out there with this!!!

I have a fibroid and lately it's been killing me! Especially when I'm trying to sleep for some reason! It's down by the birth
canal so I have to have a c-section. I've heard that most fibroids disappear after pregnancy? I'm 37 weeks and having the c-section on March 3.

Shannon0315 - February 23rd, 2006 5:24 PM

I am 35 weeks pregnant and have 2 fibroids...1 is 14 cm and the other is 3cm...they have been painful as the pregnancy progressed..and let me tell you, I know none of you want to hear this..BUT...at this stage of the pregnancy it is HORRIBLE. It feels like your tummy is going to explode! Its so tight and stretched because there is no room in there as it is and the fibroids take up so much more room. Mine have not grown any..they have remained the same size. My doctor is still unsure about delivery at this point. I also had to get u/s's every month to mitor them

christa - February 23rd, 2006 9:17 PM

stacey and skn331...thank you sooo much for the info! i just met with the doctor and he told me that there is actually 3fibroids but that the bggest one is the 10cm and it is located on the outside and he also put me on bed rest too..... so boring but i cant really even do much of anthing, every movement is a lot of work. he alsogave me vicodin for the pain and said to take it to go to sleep, but he did say that since tylenol is safe during pregnancy, that he suggests taking one extra strength tylenol every 4-6 hrs on a regular basis during the "episodes" so that your body builds up some tolerance for pain. so.thanks again for your info!!!! :)

I am 8 weeks today and had a m/c at 12 weeks back in Oct. They said it was due to low progetsterone and chromosomal abnormalities. This time I am taking progesterone 3 times a day and I am only working half days for two weeks. I had aome bleeding and was really scared so we went to the ER...My HCG was good so we went in to see the DR this past Tues and we got to hear the heart beat and see the baby it was doing good but there was a little blood that was pooling it was away from the baby though a good way away. It was a fibroid..I was shocked I have never had one ever. It is and INCH by and inch. It bled alot yesterday..on top of it all they think I might have Pneumonia so I may be admitted to the hospital for just the weekend to get things going and fluids pushed. I have been running a fever now for 4 days of 103. Well wish me luck and you all take care. -Alecia

skn331 - February 25th, 2006 4:40 PM

Alecia.... Please let us know how eveything is when you get back home. What an awful ordeal! I hope you are feeling better by now and that everything is ok with the baby.

Mary - February 27th, 2006 5:33 PM

Hi ladies. My heart and prayer goes to all that are dealing with fibroids in pregnancy. I too had fibroids during pregnancy that grew. I gave birth at 35 weeks because my doctors say I just ran out of room. I am 4ft 11in and had several fibroids that grew (incluidng one that grew to 8cm and another to 6cm). I had lots of pain from fibroid degeneration around 14/15 weeks which lasted for 14 days. Thankfully, degeneration pain does get better ladies! My baby did fine at birth needing no extra help and received a 9 on her apgar score. I went on partial bedrest on my own around 28 weeks. I didn't believe what doctors were saying about working out when you have fibroids. I believe every woman knows their body the best and why risk your pregnancy especially if you have made it so far! MCs are horrible and late MCs are even worse! My best advice for women with fibroids during pregnancy is take lots of rest!!! Drink lots of water so that you are hydrated because fibroids can cause contractions of the uterus (i started contracting at 30 weeks). And most importantly think positive and talk to people about your fears. Feel free to email me (maryelisiaa@yahoo.com) if you have any questions. I know how hard it is to have fibroids. This is my first child, and I know I will need to get rid of the fibroids for my next chlld. Thankfully my baby is so healthy, today she is 11 lb at 2 months. :)

Stacey - February 28th, 2006 8:59 AM

Well last few weeks I started getting better so much so that my doc said to ease back into normal activity and work! I felt great last week and almost normal (can't be too normal being pregnant) I am now 15 weeks and this weekend I started not feeling so hot. So I rested ALL weekend in preparation for going back to work MOnday (yesterday) I was starting off going to work 1/2 days to ease in. So I was only there for 4 hours. Well yesterday evening I started with the pain again not as bad more like pressure with twinges, but I know the feeling of fibroid pain now. I am so disappointed. I really was looking forward to going back to normal. I am still restricted from exercise, but I am goign out of my mind. Last nights set back is really upsettign. I was up all night in discomfort and just crying. Very frustrating. However, I know in 5 months I will have a beautiful baby, but right now its very hard to deal with.....Good luck all. I just wanted to share my ordeal.

Roos Girl - February 28th, 2006 12:00 PM

Hello all, Sorry to hear about all the pain the fibroids are causing. I am barely 9 weeks now and still having a little cramping. Not so much, I find that a hot bath...but not too hot makes my cramping go away. I also filled an old sock full of rice and tied it at the end and run it under warm water not to saok it and pop it into the micrwave for a couple of mins and I have a heating pad and it seems to work better thatn the other heating pads..for me at least. I go back to see my Dr on the 7th of March. This appt will determine whether or not I can return to full days....I hope not though...my work is giving me a really hard time. I am having to take FMLA, I work for a for profit corporate office so they have thier own process as well and I refused to sign 2 of thier papers and they are saying that I could loose my job. The two papers don't even apply to me. But just to cover thier butt they want me t osign them. I don't think so.......and right now is just not a goood time to mess with me ...my hormones are raging and I get really moody fast. So now I have to go through filing a grievance with my company and all sorts of other things....I don't even want to work half days anymore I want to just stay at home this whole thing is stressing me out more than I need to be right now. Well gotta run. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. -Alecia
