Fibroids

Hello all, Sorry to hear about all the pain the fibroids are causing. I am barely 9 weeks now and still having a little cramping. Not so much, I find that a hot bath...but not too hot makes my cramping go away. I also filled an old sock full of rice and tied it at the end and run it under warm water not to saok it and pop it into the micrwave for a couple of mins and I have a heating pad and it seems to work better thatn the other heating pads..for me at least. I go back to see my Dr on the 7th of March. This appt will determine whether or not I can return to full days....I hope not though...my work is giving me a really hard time. I am having to take FMLA, I work for a for profit corporate office so they have thier own process as well and I refused to sign 2 of thier papers and they are saying that I could loose my job. The two papers don't even apply to me. But just to cover thier butt they want me t osign them. I don't think so.......and right now is just not a goood time to mess with me ...my hormones are raging and I get really moody fast. So now I have to go through filing a grievance with my company and all sorts of other things....I don't even want to work half days anymore I want to just stay at home this whole thing is stressing me out more than I need to be right now. Well gotta run. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. -Alecia |

I'm 25 and found out at 8 weeks that I had a fibroid. I had been having some cramping and spotting and that's why they went ahead with the ultrasound and that's the only thing they could find. Although, at the time I didn't think to ask if the fibroid could be causing the cramping and spotting, but she didn't seem worried about anything and said everything looked great right now. (I have to go to a high-risk dr. because I had toxemia with my first pregnancy.) But, I notice that I mostly have the cramps and spotting (only a very small amt.) if I'm doing a lot. It's not an everyday thing, but it's happened quite a few times.... I'm not sure of the size of mine or anything. I know she did say they were going to keep an eye on it to see if it does grow, though. |

I am in my 37th week and I have 2 fibroids. 1 is 5 inches and is at the top of my uterus on the outside, the other is about 2 inches and is on the left side of the uterus on the outside. They have caused no harm to the baby, just alot of pain to me in the 2nd trimester and now that I am big the big one is sore. I also see a high risk doctor and got ultrasounds every month. I just had my last one last week and every looks great. My little boy is growing great and will probably be born next week. So dont freak out, fibroids dont have to cause bad things!!! |

Hello. I need any help you can give me. I am 14 weeks pregnant. I have 6 fibroids. I was in the hospital at 11 weeks in which the Dr. said that there is no chance of the baby surviving. They gave me Celebrex to control the pain, but it does not help. I am on bed rest. I cannot work, walk, sleep..I am in so much pain. Two of the fibroids are on my bladder. My stomach is so big. I am over 35 and seriously need some encouragement. The good news is that I have not been spotting or bleeding. The Drs. said that there is nothing they can do for me. I am just sitting here day after day in pain, paranoid that I am going to lose the baby. |

I'd get a second opinion. Go see a specialist. I dont know if they can do anything for you either, but they might have a bit more cheery outlook on things. I am 20 weeks pregnant with 4 fibroids. I have had 2 painful episodes, the first one lasted for about 9 days and I am in the second one right now. It started 2 days ago. My doctor doesnt really seemed concerned that I will lose the baby. It's a possibility I know, but he didnt ever say there wasnt any hope. I thought for sure it was over the first time I started having such severe pain, but the baby pulled through. I did spot for a few days, but then quit. I feel like if I can just make it four more weeks, then maybe he'll have a chance of suviving. I'll pray that you can make it for 10 more weeks at least. I am sure I wasnt a lot of help, but I wanted you to know you are not alone. Do you know how big your fibroids are and where they are located? |

Tracy Brown: I am also 35, and I had issues with my fibroids in the beginning like I stated before. But after about 1/2 through my 2nd trimester I didnt have any issues. I think I would go to a different doctor and ask what they think. Are you seeing a perintologist? That is what my dr did. I saw him every month and then I went to the hospital and had to see a perintologist (high risk doctor) because of the fibroids. He made me feel so much better. My dr told me in the beginning of my pregnancy that he couldnt tell me that this was going to be a good pregnancy...but that we would take this 1 day at a time...and here I am, almost ready to deliver. Actually having contractions. So, try not to worry, I know its easier said that done....but that is all you can do...GET ANOTHER OPINION and I am always here if you want to talk. My email address is Poohbeargt01@aol.com XOXO |

Thank you so much for your responses. I was just about to give up....I have been hysterical but you all have given me hope. Today, I have contacted a peri-neonatal, high risk Dr. for more info. My current dr. referred him. Each of the the 6 fibroids average 6cm. I feel like I am going to die. Hopefully, the high risk dr. can offer me a more cheery outlook. It seems as if my current dr. has given up on me. Please continue to pray for me and my baby. Shannon, how many weeks are you? Let me know how everything goes. You will have a good labor with no problems. Stephanie, you were very helpful. I hope that you continue to feel better. Are you on any pain killers? I had to talk one today. Thanks again.. |

Tracy: I am 38 weeks. And doing everything possible get these contractions going. I am about to go walk up and down my stairs..LOL. Membranes stripped, 100% effaced and about 2cm dialated...im ready...Good Luck, the perintologist will put your mind at ease and be able to tell you ALOT more than your dr will. |

Hi Ladies - Good luck to those who are pregnant with fibroids - it sux but you'll probably pull through fine. I am scheduled for the Myoectomy one week from today and I have alot of anxiety. Anyone out there with happy Myo stories? I had two MCs in the past 6 months but the docs can not provide proof positive it was the fibroids. However, we all feel they may be the culprit, hence the surgery. I am really, really nervous (and if you can believe this I had to have an emergency root canal yesterday - what luck!). |

I had a myo 2 years ago this June. I had 7 fibroids removed and a t-shaped uterus reconstructed. The recovery for me was AWFUL! It was the worst pain I ever felt in my life. The forgot to give me a prescription of prometrium to help the lining in the uterus build up quickly. I could have killed someone when I found out there was a reason I was in so much pain. The night after the surgery I woke up and couldnt go pee because it hurt so bad. My partner took me to the ER and they put a cath in to drain my bladder. I am sure your pain will not be as bad, be sure to take the progesterone that they should give you. The upside is that after 10 years of trying to get prenant, I am now 20 weeks along. The downside is that before I could get pregnant, 4 fibroids grew back and I had no idea until I had my first u/s. I waited a year after the surgery to start trying, I shouldnt have waited so long. The doc wanted me to go on birth control to preserve the work he had done. he said the b/c would prevent fibrouds from coming back. Obviously, I didnt take it. I hate b/c pills and the patch gave me a rash. Anyway,. I think everything is going to work out ok in the end. Good luck with your surgery. How far along were you when you had your m/c? |

Melissa - I had an abdominal myomectomy three weeks ago today and the pain hasn't been nearly as bad as it was with the classical c-section I had almost two years ago. I highly recommend trying to do some pilates or other core strengthening exercises in the few days you have left. And see what you can do to get help in the first couple of weeks with things as minor as meal preparation -- it's hard to move or do any of the mundane tasks you take for granted. I pretty much stayed in bed for the whole first week and a lot of the second week. The doctor did not give me any progesterone; only medication was percocet/oxycodone and motrin -- you take both because the perc helps with the surgery-type pain and the motrin helps with the cramping-type pain. I would be happy to answer any questions -- the docs provide so little info -- feel free to email me at wgdl@cox.net |

Ladies - Thanks for the feedback. W - you are so lucky it is now over. Thanks for the info. DH will be working from home for 10 days straight so that's good. I think my insurance approved 3-4 days in the hospital. My Pre - OP is in 30 mins. I cross country ski almost every day so am in good shape I guess. I downhill ski 2-3 days per week (I live in Breckenridge CO). We plan to TTC starting in July. We have to go to Nepal in JUly so I want to start the moemtn we get back - hopefully the won'yt grow back that fast. W - did you have the traditional Myo where they cut you open like C section of was it the simpler method? Mine isd to be the open-you-like-C-section-method. |

yes, mine was the most invasive, c-section type method. it's great that you are in great shape -- i think being in decent condition is what made this much easier than the c-section after 6 months bed rest due to fibroid-related issues. but you will have to be really patient - some of the muscles they go through will never grow back but your body will figure out how to compensate. sorry to give so much advice. when you recover it will be gorgeous spring in Colorado (i lived in Boulder for three years and went to Breckinridge a few times). i think our timing for TTC is similar to yours but might wait until August because there is a sprint triathlon i really want to do in early September before i give up my body all over again :-) |
