yes, mine was the most invasive, c-section type method. it's great that you are in great shape -- i think being in decent condition is what made this much easier than the c-section after 6 months bed rest due to fibroid-related issues. but you will have to be really patient - some of the muscles they go through will never grow back but your body will figure out how to compensate. sorry to give so much advice. when you recover it will be gorgeous spring in Colorado (i lived in Boulder for three years and went to Breckinridge a few times). i think our timing for TTC is similar to yours but might wait until August because there is a sprint triathlon i really want to do in early September before i give up my body all over again :-)

Hey Kelly- I had 17cm fibroid, and an a small girl ..104 lbs, and i gave brith oct 11 to a healthy 7 lb 8 oz boy.... and i had no pain from the fibroid at all! i had a c section, and found recovery went quite well, my beautiful son is now 5 months, big 19lbs, and perfect.......my ob has said not to do a myo as scar tissue may cause more problems than the fibroid.....so i didnt find pain an issue at all either!

Tracy,
Fibroid pain is the worst. Noone not even the doctors realize how bad it seems or so it feels. I had another smaller episode and called the doc because I thought I was supposed to and I had spotted she told me to come right in she put me on the doppler ot hear the heartbeat. She said everything is good. She said there is nothing they can do about the pain the baby is fine and I was just going to have to deal with it. Not her exact words. Sucks because sometimes you feel great. The other time I seriously was ready to go nuts with the amount of pain I was in and not being able to get comfortable! Its enough to drive someone insane. I cried and cried and was just so not myself. I was lucky enough to be able to work from home when I felt up to it or take off. However, I was and still have periods of being miserable. I am so scared to do too much in fear it will bring another horrible episode. I can deal with the slight twinges and twanges and crampy feelings I get day from day. One of my fibroids is presses against my rectum and sitting or walking to much agrevates it so I take it easy just sucks. Tracy please know your not alone and it is fustrating and painful. The best thing to do is not to stress too much if at all possible. I don't think you will 100% lose the baby, but there is always that possiblity whether you have fibroids or not. I have read many who go to the end just fine so keep your head up! Right now I am 18 weeks and have had two really bad episodes and still hve issues I just really have learned to deal with them the best I can. Good luck best wishes and know your not alone...

Stacey: You have described exactly how I feel. It sounds like we have the same dr. (smile). I have taken the ladies' advice and now I am going to see a specialist on Monday. Are you on any pain medication? Thank you for sharing your story. Now I don't feel so alone. I just want to have a healthy baby. I hope that you are feeling better. Shannon: Did you have the baby?

Hi! I am SO glad to see this site. I am about 25 weeks pregnant, and during our first ultra sound, we found that I have 8-9 fibroids (most small...a couple 7-9). For the past week I have had HORRIBLE pain (feels similar to the ligaments stretching...natural growing pains)...but it doesn't go away. It has been a few days. I called the doctor, and they just said it was probably ligaments stretching or could be because of the fibroids. I have another Ultra sound on the 29th of March, but am curious as to HOW the pains feel for those struggling with fibroids...does it feel like the achy, streching feeling similar to the ligaments stretching? Also...My fibroids (i forget the name) are the ones that are WITHIN my uterine wall...not attached to stems...any suggestions or stories of those types? THANKS! It is nice to hear I'm not crazy...

Shannon0315 - March 20th, 2006 12:53 PM

Tracy Brown: YES, I had the baby. I had a baby boy, 5lbs, 10oz and 19inches long. I didnt have to have a C section. I had him vaginally and he is BEAUTIFUL. Everything is good with him and me....the fibroids arent letting the uterus go down as fast as a woman that doesnt have them. It still looks like I am pregnant, about 4 months, apparently it takes the fibroids awhile to go down! Good luck girl...HANG IN THERE

Stacey - March 20th, 2006 1:04 PM

Tracy They gave me vicodin i only take it when I absolutley need to usually with my pain comes nausea and vomitting usually so I can barely keep it down anyway!!! My doc has been cool with coming in whenever I feel like I need to, but I don't nec. feel like I need to rater than just report my problems, I think thye thought I was a complainer which wasn't the case this is my first preg. HOw am I supposed to know what to do?
abbismom-
I can tell you that the pain especially when at the worst feels awful. LIke you want to rip your insides out. Other wise normal pain is like dull achy. I had a lot of pressure like there was a bowling ball inthere. IF it becomes worse ask to be seen. However, fib are kinda brushed aside as oh its just fibroids. I have been on on and off bedrest. I can't do mch normal activity!!! Overall just sucks

abbismom - March 20th, 2006 1:09 PM

Stacey: Thank you SO much. I am at my wits end. When we found out about them, it seemed like no big deal. Now, a few weeks later, I am having all of this pain for the first time. I am nervous for my last trimester and what it holds. I also have a 2 1/2 year old and am a stay at home mom, so I "rest" as much as I can, but it is hard. Thank you for your guidance!

abbismom - March 20th, 2006 2:38 PM

are your pains associated with a or several fibroids, only located in the area where the fibroid is located? My whole belly is in pain...so I am wondering if my fibroids (i have a bunch) are the cause for sure?

skn331 - March 20th, 2006 2:47 PM

Abbismom: When I have pain from my fibroids (4 of them on the lower part of my uterus) it hurts all over. It doesnt seem to be localized to one specific area. In fact, my doctor told me last time I saw him that my pain was actually contractions caused by the uterus being irritated from the fibroids. They just arent strong enough contractions to do anything.... and hopefully they stay that way. There is also something called red degeneration when a fibroids outgrows its blood supply and dies. This causes SEVERE pain, usually requiring hospitalization for pain management and you generally run a fever when this happens. (I dont think that has happened to me, but the doc did tell me about it.)

abbismom - March 21st, 2006 9:38 AM

Thank you skn for your response. I am going crazy trying to keep up my home and tend to my 2 1/2 yr old daughter...while not even feeling like I can move! The pains take my breath away at times...it is tough to manage! Thank you so much!

W - March 22nd, 2006 10:52 PM

Abbismom: My pain during pregnancy was all around my lower abdomen -- it was a horrible dull ache with sharper pains for some periods of time. Moving hurt but lying down was no picnic either. I think the size of the fibroid plus the growing baby were compressing everything and pressing on all sorts of things, sometimes it felt like nerve endings or something in my hip and lower back. FYI, my fibroid was inside the uterine wall, too. Did you have any fibroid-related issues when you were pregnancy with your 2.5 year old?

Stacey - March 23rd, 2006 4:15 PM

I have 6 of them now. 4 are fairly large the other two are smaller and are pretty much all over. When its bad its bad everywhere. The problem I last had was when it was pushing on my rectum causing severe constipation which is not fun. I don' t know what flares my episodes up to me mor painful but it sucks.

Abbismom - March 23rd, 2006 4:18 PM

TY for your answers! I went to the doctor yesterday after being a week in pain (7 days). He basically insinuated that the only way fibroids would hurt me, is if they are degenerating. I am assuming, however, that all of you have or had "active" fibroids? I have been through one pregnancy...and could have ran a marathon right before I delivered. This pain SUCKS and is sooo annoying. Is my Doctor giving me sound advice? I am going in for an US tomorrow to see if any are degerating.

Hi all:
I had my Myo 2 days ago. Was sent home early from the hospital because I was apparently the poster child for sailing through a Myo. Pain is obviously there but they do a great job managing it with morphine on day 1-2, then percocet day 2-5. I started walking around on day 2 by mid morning (ouch!) but thenm was a pro by late in the day (5 walsk total!). Day 3 I woke at 6am and took an unassisted shower. I am now home laying on the couch having DH manage everything for a few days. I was really scared but I am SO GLAD I did it and now it's over. W - I bought some Neosporin "Scar Sheets" at Walmart. They are a little known secret. My staples/stiches come out next week and a week after I can start using these "bandages. You use them for 12 weeks and apparently, they are the greatest thing to prevent scarring since white bread met peanut butter and jelly. Good luck to all. We're starting our TTC in July and I am really looking forward to it!
