skn331 - That's great news! Good thing you have docs who are attentive - sometimes I read posts where docs are so nonchalant. I had my FU today to look at my prob with the incision and my doc brought in the other doc and they're like "Oh, that's clearly a fat deposit. It probably won't fully go away but we'll try to manipulate it a bit when you get PG and have the C section later on." I'm like "WTF!!!!!" I had lipo 7 years ago and they're wondering if it is related. They told me I can get plastic surgery later and it should resolve it. It's so irritating. I mean really! I got PG last year and all was dandy then I was unfortunate (mc) and now this. Can't wait to have to deal with this in a bathing suit. I want to start our family but come on! Why is this so hard!

Hello, I'm 11 wks pregant with 2 fibroids which both are located inside my cervix. One of the fibroids is the size of a softball and the other is 4cm. I like Sandy am going thru alot of discomfort. Sometimes I can't hardly walk, the fibroid is causing so much pain in my lower abdominal area. I pray every night that it will not cause me to have a miscarriage... I am constantly calling my Doctor's office and they are telling me that it's my cervix streatching and that I will go through more pain than the usual woman would that did not have fibroids. Like someone else said in the Forum, she get's really excited and then on the other hand she sometimes gets scared. This is my first baby and I just want everything to go well. I really appreciate this website/forum as it brings alot of light to the subject. Thank you Sandy because I'm going thru the same thing.

Anyone try using Fibrovan for disolving fibroids before trying to conceive?

MelissaK - April 7th, 2006 2:04 PM

Kennedy - the vast majority of women make it through their pregnancies with fibroids and limited complications. My Periontologist advised me of this when I was PG. And the fibroids can get even bigger. In my case, I mc'd because my first twin had a chromosomal disorder (we lost the HB at 7 weeks). This basically set the placenta up poorly so at around 15 weeks we lost the second. For my 2nd PG, it looked like the twins (yes again - what odds) were never able to get implanted properly because they were right around my biggest fibroid. They never had HBs, just sacs and little fetal poles that demised pretty fast. So there is no proof the fibroids were the problem. But I just wanted to remove them so that in case they were the culprit I would not have to deal with anymore. (plus I needed to take some time off from the PG game because 2 losses in 6 months sux and makes you a little nutty). Keep up a good attitude and try to ignore the fact you even have them. The odds I think are in your favor.

Update: Its been 7 days since my contractions started and (knock on wood) I havent had ANY since last night. Thats over 15 hours or so. I am cautiously excited that this episode is over and I am still pregnant. Every day I stay pregnant I thank God and count as a blessing. 23 weeks and counting.

Kennedy: one of my fibroids is located very near my cervix (not in it though) and my doctor said that may prevernt pre-term labor because if prevents the baby form coming in contact with my cervix. Maybe yours will be preventitive as well?

MelissaK: SO, if its a fat deposit, where was it before your surgery? Thats sounds a little suspicious to me. They just dont want to tell you that they screwed up!

Hello. Thank you all for contributing to this forum. It has been a huge help to me. I have a large fibroid (approx 10 cm) that grew during my pregnancy. It had started degenerating and was causing me a great deal of pain, but otherwise the pregnancy was perfect. My water broke, when I was barely 22 weeks. I didn't go into labor for nearly 24 hours afterwards. I am heartbroken to say that the doctors could do nothing to save my perfectly healthy, precious girl, Maria. She died on 1/26, just minutes before she was born. The doctors have reviewed my case nearly a dozen times at the hospital and say that the fibroid had nothing to do with my water breaking. However, they have also ruled everything else out. They say it's a "medical mystery." On Friday, I went for an ultrasound to see how much the fibroid had shrunk (since my hormone levels had returned to normal). It grew nearly 3 cm! Now we're trying to figure out what option is best. II've been told that I am at high risk for complications for a myectomy (that if they can't control the bleeding, they'll have to do a hysterectomy). I've been reading that embolism can cause infertility. My doctor suggested Lupron to shrink the fibroid before we conceive again; however, I've been reading that in most cases, the fibroid grows back to its original size within weeks of stopping the Lupron. I'm just so confused, scared and heartbroken. It's so hard to wade through all of this so soon after losing my child. Anyway, thank you all again for your imput.

Cori - I am so so sorry to hear what happended. It's a truly horrible experience to go through. I can only say that in my case, time really did help alot, I felt better emotionally after about 8-10 weeks. But those 8-10 weeks were REALLY rough - I was crying all the time and normally I don't cry at all! Go get a second (or third) opinion from a fertility specialist, an Endocrinologist. It helps to start motoring toward the future. SKN331 -- Woo... HOO!! Keep it going! This little episode shall pass! Oh yeah, and my father and DH both think the docs screwed up and I probably need lipo after this is all over. One of the docs said (if I ever get to this point) that when they open me for a C section they'll do a little work in the area to try to make it better. I'm screwed, I think I'll go for spot lipo after I (hopefully) get through a PG. What else am I supposed to do? They won't make a final call until I am 9 months past surgery to get rid of all swelling and HELLO? I had better be pregnant by THAT time!. Damn thing is a little bigger today too. And it had been dropping in size this past week!

I was scheduled to get my uterine fibroids removed this summer and now, surprise, surprise, I'm pregnant. I'm 8 weeks pregnant but I'm scared because the fibroid seems to be growing fast. It's located on the left side of my uterus and the baby is on the right. 18 months ago the fibroid was 5cm. When I found out I was pregnant, 2 weeks ago, the fibroid was at about 6-7 cm, and today it measured at almost 10cm. My husband and I want to be cautiously optimistic, but that is very difficult now. It seems that at every ultrasound (today was my 3rd), the fibroid is growing like crazy. I want to think positive, but honestly, it seems almost better to prepare for the worst. Isn't that terrible? I guess I'm looking for even a little bit of hope. Has anyone heard of a successful pregnancy with such a large fibroid so early on?

wgdl - April 13th, 2006 8:33 AM

suzy - my fibroid (also on the left) was about that size at that point in my pregnancy. it continued to grow like crazy (18cm at its largest) and i had a lot of pain (was on painkillers and modified bedrest for about 6 months), and a couple of trips to the hospital with contractions, but the GOOD NEWS is that i had a wonderful healthy baby girl, who is now almost 2 years old. just had my fibroid taken out in February because it was still about 12 cm. good luck and feel free to email me offline at why0306@aim.com with any questions.

skn331 - April 13th, 2006 1:22 PM

suzy: I have 4 fibroids. They started out ranging in size from 2 to 4 cm. My last scan they were 4 to 8 and I am sure they have grown since then. I am currently 24 weeks pregnant. I have had some pain and contractions also, but have not had to go on "bedrest" since it doesnt seem to help the contractions. I do get a swab of my cervix every two weeks to check for pre-term labor so we know when to start worrying about the contractions. The doc says it they are caused by my uterus being irritated from the fibroids, but they are not productive. My cervix is still tightly closed, no bleeding either. Good luck and get up updated. There are a few girls around who check in often who are going through the same problems.

skn331 - April 13th, 2006 1:23 PM

I mean keep us updated.

Suzy - April 15th, 2006 10:51 AM

Thank you for the support. I'm with an HMO, so I have not been assigned a permanent doctor, so I think that is also contributing to my anxiety. I'll get a doctor on 4/24. I want to be excited, but I don't think I'm ready. I'm going to take it day by day. I hope my husband and I can get excited soon. We've told ourselves that we will start thinking about it more once I reach the end of the first trimester. I know with a fibroid that timetable does not mean much because it is a higher risk pregnancy for the entire pregnancy, but it's about all we can handle right now. I have a "full ultrasound" (whatever that means) on Monday, so I'll see how things are going. I'll keep you updated. Again, thanks for the support. It's reassuring to know that a healthy pregnancy is at least possible.

Suzy - April 17th, 2006 11:41 PM

Well, I had the ultrasound today. So far, so good. I'm about 8 weeks along. The baby is fine, has strong heartbeat. It is positioned in the posterior of the uterus. The fibroid measures 10cmX9cmX6cm. Is is the the anterior of the uterus. A bit smaller than a baseball. We're just taking it one day at a time.

missvicky01 - April 21st, 2006 10:22 PM

I have numerous fibroids - one started out 5cm but I think it has grown. I am 7 weeks pregnant, saw the flicker of white (heartbeat) on the ultrasound but had bleeding - spotting brown then bright red with some clots (sorry for being graphic). It is now like a regular period but the cramps are gone. I am worried so I booked another ultrasound on Monday. The DR said it was viable on the last u/s but that since passing the blood clots it could have been a miscarriage. I think I am paranoid that these fibroids are taking up all the room and pushing the baby out. The technician said she could not count the fibroids because there were so many and it was hard to see my ovaries! HELP!

Suzy - April 22nd, 2006 11:35 AM

I am totally brand new to this forum, but I can tell you that I also spotted (brown and bright red with a clot) during week 6. I thought I had miscarried, but fortunately everything was okay. The doctor thought it was one of my smaller fibroids degenerating. When they do the u/s they also have a hard time seeing one of my ovaries. I have a large fibroid and one or two small ones. The large one is the size of a softball and takes up 1/2 my uterus. I hope everything is OK with you. I've done a lot of reading and have accepted the fact that having fibroids while pregnant is high risk no matter what trimester. My husband and I are hoping for the best, but if it does not work out I am getting the fibroid removed immediately and will try to conceive again before it gets a chance to grow back. Keep your spirits up.

skn331 - April 22nd, 2006 1:24 PM

Missvicky: Dont lose hope yet. I was in your situation and had the same thing happen. Over the weekend when I was 7 weeks, I started cramping and bleeding clots. I knew it was doomed. I even went so far as to start smoking again because I figured it didnt matter. However, the baby was fine. I am now 25 weeks and my fibroids are causing me some problems still, but we've made it a lot farther than I thought originally. I have four fibroids that started out around the same size as yours. Dont give up hope yet. Please let us know after your u/s on Monday.
