Now that I think about it, sometimes in the night I have been waking up to my leg being asleep... I wonder if the fibroid is contributing to that. Sandy - that is healthy sized baby! Hopefully my baby will be too - so far my fibroid is smaller than yours was, but I'm only 12 weeks, so it has lots of time to grow!

Please HELP!!!

Does anyone had to go through surgery to remove large fibroids before planning to concieve. I have 3 large fibroids and was diagonised blighted ovum 3 weeks back. I am having D&C tommorow(waited for natural mc in no result). My doctor says that mc could be due to fibroids. She said since the fibroids are large its better for me to operate it out before trying for next. Please advise. I really don't want to have surgery which will cause any fertility problems. I am 26 and this was my first. I am really confused and distrubed. I have lost all hopes that i ever will have a baby. I can't sleep the night. Its becoming worse day by day. HELP!!! Any suggestions/advise is greatly appreciated.

Uyale- I had a MC May of 04' that was my first pregnancy. My DR suggested that I get the surgery done. The surgery was done in Aug and I had about 10 fibroids removed all different sizes. I too had the fear of not being able to have a baby. Then Jan. I found out I was pregnant and I'm now 18 weeks but the fibroids have returned so now I'm scared to death right now. I've had a U/S the baby is OK. I've heard the baby's heartbeat twice. My next appt is April 21. I'm so glad to know that there are other mommy's to be with this situation. I too have been told that I will need a c-section also. My due date is Sept. 7th.

V,
Congratulations!! Good to know that you are preganant again. wish you problemless and healthy preganancy.

Could you please tell me what surgery you had? Just today I had D&C. Slowly getting back to normal routine. Didn't experience much of pain but mentally I am too stressed out. Even during D&C my doctor was too too concerned about my fibroids and she said we have to operate it out. So I guess I really don't have a choice. I want to have a baby as early as possible but let see how the surgery goes. Feeling very stressed out.

Please tell me the kind of surgery you had.

Thanks a lot for sharing this with me. Means a lot to me

Uyale-The procedures I had were 3 done at once but I can only remember 2. A myomectomy and a hysteroscopy. I had incision that was a c-section cut from below the belly button down to my bikini line. I was out from work for six weeks and told to wait at least 2 regular cycles (2 months) before trying to conceive again. The problem with having the surgery done there is a chance of the fibroids returning. In my case they did. I hope everything goes well for you and I wish you the best. Good Luck!!!!

Thanks for your information. I am still confused and going through lot of mental stress. I am very much distrubed with this mc but i am more worried about these fibroids as I feel that I won't be able to have baby at all. My doctor has told me that she will do hysteroscopy but I don't know when she will do. I have an appointment with her next monday. I can't wait for this. Also, how did you select your doctor for the surgery? was she your same GYN? or was it a different doctor? did you take a second opinion before having the surgery? Sorry I am bothering you too much. I know you have past this horrendous experience. It will be of great help to me if you advise me on this. I don't know anyone whom I can seek advice from. So I am clanging on to you :) Please enjoy your preganancy to the fullest and hopefully I will follow your path in another 6 months.

anyone have a big fibroid and there baby is situated in kind of a different location?? my baby is quite high....almost right below my belly button, which i guess is unusual........

D - April 11th, 2005 4:28 PM

jessica - my baby is attached very high in the uterus, the fibroid is very low. As far as how big... well, my next appointment is Friday, I hope I'll be finding out for sure then... at this point, its my guess only...

jessica - April 11th, 2005 8:33 PM

D- wow, we some alot alike! my fibroid is on the bottom right, and dr wa surprised to find baby way up high - i guess its unusual, and i can see my tummy get bigger in the baby spot! good news is fibroid is not growing...whew....might have to get a vertical c-section thoufg............i am 13 weeks..u?

D - April 12th, 2005 9:10 AM

jessica - I am 13w3d. My doc seemed a bit surprised to find the baby attached so high too! She tried a transvaginal u/s last visit, but the fibroid completely blocked her view. So she tried the external u/s and was able to find the baby. I'm getting very anxious for my appointment Friday... I'm hoping the fibroid hasn't grown. I have noticed that my uterus has nearly reached my belly button now. She didn't say if she was doing another u/s or not, I'm just hoping so!

Uyale-My OB/GYN was the DR that performed the surgery. I didn't get a second opinion I just thought that it was the right thing to do at the time. And I'm very glad that I made that decsion to have it done. Also I read about it on the internet and asked my DR alot of questions that where very helpful to me.

Thanks V. I am still recovering from my D&C. I have terrible pain now. I couldn't sleep whole night. I hope I pass this stage and get over with ASAP. I am really tensed about the fibroid surgery but right now I just have to come out of this cramping and bleeding.

Anyways thanks a lot for your advice. Please do let me know whatever you think is important for me to be aware of.

v,
Another question for you? how big was ur fibroid. Was your uterus distorted becaused of these fibroids. Today my doctor called and she said that my uterus has been completelly distoroted becoz of the fibroids. My largest is 8cm (other two are also comparable). She also said that my uterus is totally enlarged (as compared to normal size) due to fibrodis. Day by day I am losing hope. Looks like I am the first patient with this kind of case my doctor is having. She is not direclty telling me that but i can make out. She says at my age(26) she has seen people with fibroids but not this big. i am totally confused. I have no one to talk to and every time i talk to my doctor she scares me more. please help.

jess - April 13th, 2005 4:03 PM

u....your NOT alone ....my first doc was like that....made me feel like a freak cause, as he said....your only 30 and you have a 11 com fibroid- thats not normal.....he even saidm maybe its cancer or something....i was PANICKED.......got a second opinion and my dr, who is a specialist says its very common, and lots of women have them large and don't even realize it...and cancer is like .001 perecent....and now i'm 13 weeks pregnant with the same fibroid , and she says everything is fine and she's had several other women with larger fibroids have normal pregnancies......in fact she said she was glad i didn't get a myomectomy ( which the other dr booked me for without consulting me), cause now we dont have to worry about scar tissue and uterine damage!! so you are noty alone, and this is common....maybe a little less common to have them larger, but it still happens alot...are you able to see another dr??

Uyale - April 13th, 2005 4:30 PM

Thanks Jess for your soothing words. Congratulations on your pregnancy. Wish you a great time.

As far as I have heard this doctor whom I am going is the best doctor for pregnancy in the hospital. There was a long wait to get into her list. Now that i am in I am scared to leave her. But at the same time I am realising that she might be the best doctor for normal pregancies but she wouldn;t be an expert to handle fibroids issue. Anyways I will go for second opinion just don't know whom to approach and how to do research. I want to go to a specialists too. How did you find the specialists? All of my friends went to this doctor and all of them had normal pregnancies so they are all very happy. So i dont' know where else to get information from. I have 3 large fibroids. Mydoctor is saying that there is no way i cna for next pregnancy without having to remove them surgically. We still don't know the location of the fibroids as I haven't had hysteroscpy yet. she says that I will need atleast 2 weeks to get my uterus back to shape and after that she will schedule for a hysteroscopy to study the position of the fibroids. Where is your fibroids located? Praying that it will not be a problem to you or your baby. Good luck.

I am stil recovering from D&C. Going thourh lot of pain its been 5 days after the surgery and I am still at home. Will return to work tommorow.

U - April 15th, 2005 6:01 PM

Just came back from follow up appt. after D&C and very depressed. My doctor told me that since I have large fibroids, they want me to wait for atleast 3 months to see if it shrinks. After that they will do a hysterscopy and then a myomectomy. So basically I can't think of baby for another 6 months. Feeling very depressed. does it really shrink in 3 months? let me know.

Thanks,
