Missvicky: Dont lose hope yet. I was in your situation and had the same thing happen. Over the weekend when I was 7 weeks, I started cramping and bleeding clots. I knew it was doomed. I even went so far as to start smoking again because I figured it didnt matter. However, the baby was fine. I am now 25 weeks and my fibroids are causing me some problems still, but we've made it a lot farther than I thought originally. I have four fibroids that started out around the same size as yours. Dont give up hope yet. Please let us know after your u/s on Monday.

Hi Ladies, I'm 30 and I have 12 wks of pregnacy... yesterday they found me a 17cm fibroid. The baby is in a odd possition, almost on top of my right hip. However they check his heart beat and said it was good. The Dr. called me yesterday and told me, I'll need to be on bedrest from the 20 wks until the baby will be born, she also said that it will be by cesarea. But told me that there is a chance that because of the size of the fibroid that it won't let the baby grow and have a ms/c on my second or third trimester. There is anyone here that have such a large fibroid or know someone that can share with me her experience. I' am very scared about what can happen to my baby (is my first one) . Thank you for you support.

Hi all - I really appreciate all of the stories and info posted here. My situation is 16 weeks pregnant, 34 years old, first baby (boy!) with three fibroids - 2 small, one big 14cm. The big one is killing me, as it is degenerating. I have major cramps in my lower abdomin. I've been to see my dr and my high risk dr. THe ultrasounds show a healthy, active baby boy and the fibroids are not near the baby, rather on the outer wall away from the cervix. My drs have me taking motrin 600 mg every six hours and have also suggested indomethacin (a motrin type perscrition drug) - which I've taken once. The meds sort of help the pain. But, I am uncomfortable taking them... and I know they are not a long-term solution. What have other drs recomended for pain management? Have any other treatments during pregnancy worked? I am worried about my baby - clearly I don't want anything to happen to him! But, of course, I don't think I can stand bed-rest for the rest of my pregnancy. Any advice or thoughts? Thanks!

skn331 - April 27th, 2006 1:38 PM

hi, Lolabean! I have been lucky enough not to be on bedrest et and I hope I dont have too, that must be an awful thought. Are you going to have to quit a job? Or do you stay at home already? I am taking ibuprofen too, the same dose as you. I am 26 weeks right now though and the doc said I can only take it for two more weeks. I asked him what would we do then? and he said we'd figure something out. I just hope that "something" isnt bedrest. Anytime I stop taking the ibuprofen and then get up to do my job (I have a home daycare) I start having contractions again. If I rest, or take the ibuprofen, then I am fine. Doc says the contractions are from my fibroids irritating my uterus. I have four which are all somewhere around "medium size" They didnt tell me how big they were the last time they checked.

Hi Yarie, I have never heard of a fibroid that big. Please keep us updated on how your pregnancy progresses.

lolabean - April 27th, 2006 6:03 PM

skn331 - I'm a teacher, so I won't have to quit (luckily)... and I really just have to make it until June 15 and then, I'm home for two months. I don't think I'll be back in sept like I planned (i'm due oct 6 - so i'd hoped to work that first month).
thanks for the info re your medication. I have one week left to take the meds (my doctor said we shouldn't go beyond two weeks with it) and i, too, am worried about the what next in order to manage the pain. But, when the pain is bad, I try to just think of my active, kicking baby and that makes me smile...

skn331 - April 27th, 2006 7:10 PM

lolabean, do you have to stop the ibuprofen in two weeks? or the other medication? Or both? I know ibupfrofen is supposed to be bad in the third trimester because some heart valve closing or forming (Or something). There is a website called safefetus.com that lists all meds and the effect on the baby....

lolabean - April 29th, 2006 5:32 AM

skn331 -
I think my dr meant both meds... although, really only the motrin helps, so I've just been taking that. How scary for you to have contractions! Is this your first baby? My doctor told me to watch for contractions, but I don't even know what to look for! He said the pain i'm having now is probably just lie what I'd have in pre-term labor so... I have found that sleeping sitting up helps a little. Not that that is much fun but. So much for the second semester being the fun one! How are you feeling?

Suzy - April 30th, 2006 1:45 AM

I know that when you have a fibroid your uterus measures larger than normal. For example, even though I am only 10 weeks pregnant, the last doctor I saw said my uterus measures that of someone 5 months pregnant. For those who have already been pregnant with a fibroid, how early did you start showing? I am 5'8" and wear size 14, I am heavy-set, but I "feel" that my stomach is bigger, harder. I still fit into all my pants, and I don't know if maybe I'm imagining it, but I feel my stomach different, same size as pre-pregnancy, but like harder and heavier. Do you think that its possible already at 10 weeks to feel this, or am I probably just imagining it? I have some of my sister's pregnancy pants and I feel wonderful when I wear them, no pressure on my stomach whatsoever. I'm not if this is happening because I'm already overweight, or possibly the pregnancy.

Hi! I too belong into opregnant with fibroids club. I'm 33 and 19weeks PG. I first discovered I have a fibroid on mu 6 weeks scan it measured 5cm. Last friday I had my big US and one fibroid is actually two fibroids next to each other measuring 8cm together. They are on the outside of the uterus and they are very low, so my baby is pushed up. I haven't had any pain and I hope it stays this way. The problem is that I will have to have C-section if fibroids don't move more up.Dr that did US told me that. I have appt with my OB in two weeks so I will ask her more. Does anyone know if fibroids moving up actually happens in real life? It doesn't seam realistic to me. What do you think?

skn331 - May 1st, 2006 2:14 PM

lolabean: this is my first baby. I have been doing ok. Still having some contractions off and on, but they are still not strong, so.... I guess I just keep ignoring them. One and a half more weeks for the ibuprofen for me, although I have not been taking it as much because I am starting to get paranoid about taking it. Suzy: I measured the same way you are. At 10 weeks I measured 20 weeks, however, now I am 26 weeks and I am measuring 26 weeks. Doc says the fibroid growth must have slowed down and now I am only growing as much as the baby needs me to, like normal. I dont remember exactly when I started showing so other people could tell, but I definately was wearing maternity clothes at 10 weeks like you. Leilani14: My doc said the same thing about the fibroids moving up. All of mine are right where they would do a bikini cit for a c-section ( I have to have one for sure because of uterine surgery/scar tissue) and he said if they dont move up then I will have to have a vertical cut in the middle of my belly. I asked when we would know if they moved or not and he said he'd do a u/s the check the position about 5 minutes before the c-section. I am now 26 1/2 weeks! I have a viable baby! I hope you are all doing well. I want to see all of us reach full term with healthy babies.

Leilani14 - May 1st, 2006 4:18 PM

Skn331 I'm doing well thanks for asking. I don't have any problems so far, no pain or cramps.Just my tymmy looks biger than for 19weeks because the baby is pushed up by fibroids. Dr warned me about preterm labor and that I have to be aware of it. I'm not sure that I would recognise the contractions. This may be a stupid question, but how did you know that you have contractions and when did they start? I'm not looking forward to posible vertical c section, but what has to be done, has to be done. I kind of can't believe that they would move up. We'll see. Take care

skn331 - May 2nd, 2006 2:13 PM

Leilani14: Contractions for me feel like my uterus getting hard as a rock. You can push on my tummy all the way around and fell the outline of the uterus. SOmetimes they dont hurt, but occasionally they do. I guess getting contractions is normal, if they are far apart. When I first felt them I called the doc and he said lay down, and if they dont slow at least to every 10 minutes while laying down then to go to the hospital. The first day I had them, by the evening, I was having them every 4 minutes and I had been laying down all day. So, we went to the hospital and they gave me ibuprofen and terbutaline. The terbutaline did NOT help at all, it just made me feel like I was on speed. The ibuprofen helps though.

Hi everyone, my prayers are with you all and your little babies. I have 4 fibroids, the docs say that they are large. I had no idea I had fibroids until I went to the ER in my 8th week with abdominal pain. So far baby is doing well. The four fibroids I have are 2 smaller ones top of uterus and 2 larger ones on the bottom of uterus, the largest measures 11 cm and the smallest 5 cm. The two largest one are the ones making all the trouble..one is resting on my bladder and the other is right next to the baby and my start pushing against the placenta. I am so scared at this point I don't know what to do. I am happy that I found this web page and you girls ae sharing your experience with everyone. I just wanted to share my story and let you all know you sharing your experiences really do help other women out there pregnant with fibrods or hoping to get pregnant with fibroids! Thank You :)
