Thanks for the support. I did research and a Z-pack antibiotic is in category B, so it's as safe as they get in terms of antibiotics. I'm not worrying anymore, the infection could have been more dangerous than taking the antibiotics. I'm feeling good. I also have a doctor's appt this Thur to check up on the fibroid and baby. Something is definitely happening inside of me. My hips have hurt these past few days, like they're making room for something which is definitely growing. I'm hoping its the baby and not the fibroid. We'll see on Thursday.

Hi everyone! Here is my update. I just had my dr appt. I knew where I stand on fibroids from my big U/S. But what freakd me out a bit is that she said that fibroids are right in the spot where they usually cut for C section, so she will have another dr doing C section with him? And that my C section will have higher risk of bleeding and histerectomy. She completely freaked me out. Now I'm thinking what if I go into labor early on Saturday evening when only one dr is on call. And to make things even better my fibroid started to hurt yesterday I think. I'm fine if I sit or lay down, but I can barely walk. I don't know if it is maybe a streching muscle. Suzy, I'm glad to hear that you are doing better. Skn331 how far along are you now? I took 1 ibuprofen yesterday, but for some reason I feel guilty, I know I won;t be able to take it after 28 weeks, How often did you take IB? Thanks and take care

skn331 - May 17th, 2006 1:40 PM

Lelaini: I am 29 weeks now, as of tomorrow. I took ibuprofen 600 mg 3 times a day for several weeks. I stopped at 27 weeks because I started to get nervous about taking it. At my 28 week check up with the doc, he did an u/s and said I couold keep taking it for 2 more weeks if I needed too because my fluid levels were fine. I thought I wasnt supposed to take it for the baby's heart, not the fluid levels, so now I am confused, but I am still not going to take it. I wonder if you will be another classic c-section lelaini? if the fibroid is right were they want to cut. My doc also said he is having someone assist him in the c-section because of the risk for bleeding and hysterectomy. I asked what the chance was of that happeneing and he said 5 or 6%. WHich isn't too bad, but still, 5 or 6 women out of 100? I guess it could happen, but that sure would be scary. Dont worry about going into labor when only one doc is on call, I bet they schedule you a couple of weeks before you are due to prevent that from happening.

Thanks skn331! I think you are right that I may be another classic C-section example. Thanks for putting histerectomy chances into numbers. I like to quantify things and 5-6% for me means that I have very good chances that I'll get to keep my uterus. As for IB, my dr told me not to take it because of potential heart defects it can cause in third semester. I uderstand that it makes you nervous. I'm glad that contractions stoped and I hope you won't need any pain medication until the end. Take care

hi all, 2 years ago i had dr's tell me that i was looking at having a hysterectomy the following year ( i would have only been 25) because i have what can only be described as varicos veins on both my fallopian tubes, i was gutted as i had been ttc for almost 3 years but luckily when had next hospital appointment i was told i wouldnt, i had a m/c in dec05 but i am now 18wks preg so i am so made up, i get alot of pain though because of these veins swelling up. not sure if this is similar to what u are all going through but i think it is.
good luck all xxx

Hi everyone..Hope all is well with you all. Rowena how did your doc appointment go? Does anyone know how safe or how much of a risk it is to take vicodin while pregnant?

Rowena - May 24th, 2006 5:20 AM

Hi girls, hope u're all doing great. Didnt get to see a dr at my appt cos it was just a scan appt so i should get more info when i see the doctor. Sonographer says fibroid location are not exactly definite until about 20 weeks so maybe its just dat d fibroid still has room to move about. Anyhow, good news is, fibroid hasnt grown any bigger since 7 weeks scan. I'm 14w4d today, a bit further along than i thot, according to scan. God bless us all...

skn331 - May 24th, 2006 1:16 PM

HI everyone. I had my 30 weeks check today and everything is going fine. So far I have gained a total of 28 pounds ( I didnt gain any in the last two weeks) and I am measuring at 31 weeks. The doc wants me to have one more sonogram (which will be next week) to check the size of the baby. He said everything looks good from my stomache measurements, but since I have fibroids he wants to look inside, to make sure the growth is baby, not fibroids. I have only had one sonogram since 10 weeks and that was the 20 week one. I'll let you know next weeks how everything turns out. Hope everyone is well! We're all trucking along.

Leilani14 - May 24th, 2006 2:09 PM

Hi girls! Rowena this is really good news that your fibroid is not growing. I wish mine would stop. Skn331 it is great to hear good news from you too. Are you having your scan done soon? My dr told me that she wants to do 32 week scan, because of the fibroid . But I have some time to wait. I'm only 23 weeks. I'm again pain free and I hope it stays this way. Take care

Suzy - May 30th, 2006 3:43 PM

Hi everyone. Glad to hear things are going well. I had my check up last week and everything looked fine. This weekend I started having really bad pains. Can anyone tell me what fibroid pain feels like? I called my doctor and she seems to feel that it is ligament pain, but I've spoken to a couple other people who have had recent pregnancies and they say this does not sound like the pain they experienced. I've had a persistent dull pain since Saturday night then I get sharp pains in my abdomen, somtimes rt side, sometimes, left, or across both. The pain knocks me off my feet. I have a difficult time getting up from a sitting or laying position, and then I just get this really bad pain that makes me double over. Is this what the fibroid pain is like? I'm 14 weeks along and have been pretty lucky so far, I'm hoping this pain does not last too long.

Leilani14 - May 31st, 2006 12:48 PM

Hi Suzy ! I'm sorry to hear you are in pain. I'm no expert on fibroid pain because I had it only twice and I hope it stays this way. I have 8cm fibroid low slightly on the right. I haven't had cramping, but It was dull and constant and it would get worse if I moved. When I moved it would be stabing pain. Mt dr sugested right away that the pain may be due to fibroid and she tol me to take ibuprofen 600mg every 6 hours. I was not crazy about taking ibuprofen since it can cause heart problems for baby if taken in third timester even I was only 12 weeks then, but she told me that I should take pain relief, because my uterus can get irritaded by fibroid pain and it may cause contractions. So I did take a third of prescribed dosage and it worked for me, both times. Tylenol doesn't work with fibroid pain. I thik it is hard to tell what it is, but I would talk to the dr about pain relief. I hope you feel better soon. Take care

skn331 - May 31st, 2006 1:30 PM

Suzy, that sounds like ligament pain to me. I had the same pain and went in and thats what they told me. When I have had more crampy pain, they told me that was more than likely my fibroids. I had my u/s today and the baby is measuring at 32 1/2 weeks. I am 31 weeks as of tomorrow. He is 4.5 pounds already! I cant believe there is something that big inside of me. I am happy he is a little big though, because he is going to be 3 weeks early. He wont be as teeny tiny as I thought he'd be. Funny thing is, I havent gained any weight for a month... I guess thats ok though.

Dalfie - May 31st, 2006 4:53 PM

Wow! A lot has happened since Carol started this question... I'm D, you can follow my story at the beginning of this thread. I thought I'd tell you how things are at this point... My son was born at 35 weeks... so he spent a week in NICU. He was fine though. During delivery I asked the doc about my fibroid, he said that at that point he wasn't worried about it at all. My son got his head around the fibroid, large as it was, just fine and was delivered vaginally. Since he was smaller (born early) there wasn't any problem with him getting stuck behind the fibroid. There was no cause of premature labor discovered - we think that it was possibly the early stages of preeclampsia. Last month my doc ordered a u/s to check up on the fibroid. The tech checked me carefully, then said that the fibroid is now so small she has to imagine that it is there. Tomorrow I see my doc again to discuss the u/s results. I know part of the answer, though. My fibroid had to be pregnancy induced, plus, I'm nursing, so it is nearly gone... but this means that chances are, it will reappear when/if I get pregnant again. Anyway, hang in there girls. Thankfully I never had any pain like some of you are having - I'm so sorry... but I just wanted you to know that my story ended up just fine, and that just because you have fibroids doesn't mean that it is going to go badly. I have met lots of women now who have had fibroids and have had successful pregancies. I hope your pregancies will go well too...

Suzy - May 31st, 2006 8:18 PM

Thanks for the support. Dalfie, I'm glad to hear a happy ending. It does get tiring focusing on the negative aspect. I did see my doctor today. I am having fibroid pain. It may have begun as ligaments stretching, but the fibroid got irritated. The fibroid (I think 6cmx8cmx10cm) is right at the front. I can actually touch it, it is a very tender spot in my lower abdomen. Because of its location it is expected to cause me pain. I'm surprised, but the doctor put me on bed rest for a month. I don't want to do it, but the reality is I can barely go about a half hour without experiencing a jab pain and I can't stand or walk for very long. I'm hoping that this only last a short while, but the doctor says the rest of the pregnency may be this way, so I need to be prepared. On a positive note, I saw an ultrasound of the baby. It was sitting and moving around, that makes all of the pain worth it.

Joker - May 31st, 2006 8:28 PM

Hi everyone,

Glad to read everyone is doing well. I had my ultrasound yesterday...19 weeks and the baby was measuring small for his age..he was measuring 17 weeks..the tech said that is still within "normal" range..on the low side of normal. I just wanted to know if any of you had that situation early in your pregnancy. I know babies grow differently and for awhile the baby was measuring a week ahead. I'm going to see a specialist on June 14th for another ultrasound and after that ultrasound the specialist dept my take my case or let me keep my reg ob/gyn..I know there are a million questions I should be asking but I am so worried out of my mind that I can't think of any.. If you girls don't mind sharing your opinions and questions I should be asking I would greatly appreciate it! Dalfie and Skn331..congrats!!!

I think its time for everyone to check in... how is everyone doing? I have been doing great. I had to go to labor and delivery last week because I thought I was leaking amniotic fluid. Turns out it was urine :) Embarrassing, but better then amniotic fluid! I am now 32 weeks and have an appt next week, when I will get to schedule the c-section! 4-5 weeks left!
