dehhogan: There are plenty of women on this forum who have fibroids and are successfully pregnant. I am one of them. I DID have the surgery to remove some (I originally had 6 or 7) but by the time I got pregnant 4 had come back. I would definately get a second opinion before the surgery. Part of my surgery was also to repair a misshaped uterus or I may not have had the fibroids taken out right away. Good luck though. Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. I will definately hang around here, I want to hear all your stories too!

Hi everyone! I'm 14weeks pregnant and have 2 fibroids, which have grown to about 8 and 10cm respectively. I had a lot of spotting and bleeding for the last couple of weeks, but each check at the obgyn showed that the baby is doing fine (last US was yesterday). However, since last night I have heavy cramps and strong bleeding, but the blood is not as thick and dark as usual. I don't know if that's just part of the package or not..I can't run to the ER every week! So I was wondering, if this pain and bleeding is just part of having fibroids or if this is really serious? Also, does anybody take pain medication prescribed by their Gyn? I don't know if I can bear this pain for the rest of my pregnancy...Good luck to all of you and thanks for your answers. Moon

Moon: If you are bleeding heavy red blood you need to call the doctor. That could be something serious. (It could also not be, but better to be safe, right?) I did have several episodes of bleeding, but I got checked out every time. Did you have any vaginal manipulation at your last exam? That could cause bleeding from your cervix. Also: One of my bleeding episodes was linked to Bacterial Vaginosis, an infection of the cervix. I took some antibiotics and it went away. But PLEASE call your doc, even if you think its nothing. Blood can be serious. As for the pain meds, my doc did give me a Rx of hydrocodone for the fibroid pain. I took it for a few weeks in the second trimester when it was really bad. Please let us know how you are doing and what they say about the bleeding this time.

Hi everyone! Skn, I am so happy to hear everything is turning out well for you. Good Luck Monday! Dehhogan, I agree with Skn about getting a second opinion. I have three large fibroids in my uterine lining and so far so good! Moon, I would get the bleeding and cramping checked out no matter how many times you have to call the doctor and go in. I felt the same way about calling them for every little pain and they reassured me that it is important to call when anything changes. I hope everything is good for you. I was also given pain medicne to take if the pain gets too bad.Wygesic. Good luck everyone and keep us updated!

Hi Suzy, yes i've been told the same. No more scans unless we notice anything abnormal (And hopefully, we wont!!). They say they usually only make furhter scan appointments if there's anything abnormal at 20week scan.....like placenta lying low. God bless y'all!

Thanks everyone for your advice and wishes. Unfortunately I lost the Baby, last night. I had contractions for hours and when I finally went to the ER at 4am, the Baby "just came out." The doctors couldn't tell me if it had anything to do with the fibroids or not. So that was that...Comes time, we will try again. But first, I want to check with my Obgyn, if I should get the fibroids removed. I wish you guys all the best for your pregnancies and thanks again.

Hi girls! I was away whole weekend and I see I missed a lot of news. We are moving this coming weekend so everything is so crazy right now. First Skn331 I wish yoou good luck today and I hope by now you are holding your baby in your arms. I'm 30 weeks now and have U/S schedulad for 8/4 to check position of my fibroid. On my 20 week scan they found that my fibroid is very low, so I can't have vaginaly delivery and my C section is going to be complicated if fibroid stays where it is now. Dr told me that with expanding uterus fibroids often move, and she wants to check where the fibroid is. I have a feeling that this is not going to be my last U/S. I'm sure they will do at least one more right before they start cutting. Moon, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Moon,
Sorry for your loss.

missvicky01 - July 18th, 2006 8:31 AM

Sorry I haven't written since April 21st. I had a miscarriage at 7.5 weeks and had a myomectomy to remove the largest of the fibroids. Wish me luck trying again!

AmberL - July 18th, 2006 10:16 AM

Moon, my heart goes out to you! Missvicky01, good luck and hang in there.

Joker - July 18th, 2006 1:10 PM

Hi everyone, I have very bad news. On June 23 I went into to pre-term labor (23 weeks) and I gave birth to a beautiful little girl. Her name was Taylor Marie I knew in my heart that she was just way too soon and was not going to make it. I thought I was going to loose my mind..sometimes I still do. But to make this short before I break down again. I'm doing OK physically. I am not sure yet if the fibroids had anything to do with the placenta separating or if it just happened. I have a docotors appointment in Sept to do a U/S to measure the fibroids and from there I will be refered to a specialist who I guess will string me along until I have the myomectomy done. I just want to let everyone know that I love this website and I am thankful that you all share your stories. It is so easy to feel alone in this big world but somehow when I come to this web page I don't feel so alone anymore. Good Luck to everyone! Skn I am soooo happy for you..please keep intouch and let us know how you are doing. Also, I'm going to start a new discussion called "pregnancy after myomectomy" I would like to invite you all to check in from time to time and those who have had a myomectomy please tell me and everyone about your experience so others like myself can know what to expect and how to choose a doctor because I know I am scared to death about having one done. Also, I am soo sorry for those of you who have suffered a loss. I know it is heartbreaking, but please don't give up and please don't let the what ifs and what could have been take over your lives. Thank you girls for being here :)

Suzy - July 18th, 2006 3:20 PM

Joker,
I am so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what you are going through. Just like you said, it's hard to tell whether it was the fibroids, but I'm sure the reason does not make it any easier. My doctor told me that she has seen some women with huge fibroids who had no problems and others with really small ones who had a lot of complications. I will definitely keep you and in my thoughts and prayers. And Taylor Marie is a beautiful name.

Leilani14 - July 18th, 2006 4:04 PM

Oh Joker, I’m so sorry. I don’t know what to say. I just wish that there is something it can be said to make your pain at least a little less. I hope you will find strength and support that will help you heal, both physically and emotionally. I’m sure that you will find a lot of support and info on myomectomy on web pages here. Keep in touch and let us know how are you. You are in my prayers.
