yeah, since the top of my uterus is under my belly button, that is about the same spot for both of us...

Has anyone over 40 became pregnant (naturally) with large fibroids?...thanks!

Sadie - May 5th, 2005 10:43 AM

My husband is finally out of the military! We started right away trying for a baby after 4 years of marriage. It took 5 months. We are so excited. At my first prenatal appt, while the Dr. was checking my uterus, she said it was larger than what it should be. She stated it could be twins or a fibroid. We sat around waiting 20 min for the US. I was so excited thinking of the idea of twins and the opportunity to see our babies heart beat for the 1st time. Only to have them say that I have 2 firboids on the outside lining of my uterus. 1 is 8cm and the other is tiny. I cried as the news was delivered thinking the baby would be harmed. It was also too soon to see the heart beat, I'm only 5 weeks and 6 days..I hope that stupid thing doesn't grow. I found this site and read all of your responses. I must say I have found comfort in them.. I will keep you all posted. We were planning on waiting a couple of years after this pregnancy, but now we feel rushed to hurry and have our children, before I am forced to have any type of surgery.

Sadie.... maybe you won't have to rush so much on the family.... if they aren't causing you pain, I think you can leave them alone for quite awhile. Besides, maybe we'll all get lucky, and have them shrink when the pregnancy hormones go away! I have to say, I'm kinda disappointed it wasn't twins too.. I don't think mine has grown much since my last appointment. My doc has scheduled a thorough check up on it and the baby in 2 weeks... its an awfully long wait.... :) let us know what happens for you! oh yes, we didn't see our little heartbeat until near the end of the 7th week....

Hi Sadie, I have quite a few fibroids and I'm in my 14week of pregnancy. I was really scared when I found out I had fibroids but talking with other people/friends (many of them have children) said that fibroids are very common. I wouldn't worry if I were you, just try to relax and enjoy the pregnancy. Also, all my fibroids are inside the uterus so even though I'm 14 weeks my uterus is 17weeks. My Dr. said the baby is fine and has plenty of room to grow and kick around, even though I can't feel it yet. My Dr. also told me that after the baby is born the fibroids usually shrink and if they're not bothering me I should leave them alone because removing them may leave scarring in the uterus that can cause problems for future pregnancies.

i have two, one is 4cm other 5cm. i'm 5weeks pregnant. i dont know if i should keep the baby or not? the doctor said i might have complications might lose the baby, what should i do? if i loose the baby will i get pregnant again?

Ibi - May 9th, 2005 5:17 AM

Yes I have fibroids while being pregnant. I found out in Feb and I became pregnant in March. Now I'm 7 weeks six days. Was told by my doctor not to worry too much as they do not uswally cause any problems. I'm going for my first u/s tomorrow. I hope everything turns out well as I really want this baby.

D - May 9th, 2005 8:48 AM

rasha - it doesn't make sense to me that your doc says you might lose the baby because of fibroids. are you sure there weren't other reasons? I think you definately should keep the baby... all the research and people I have talked to, including several doctors, have indicated that nearly all the time the babies are just fine even if there are fibroids. If you do happen to lose the baby, the fibroids will most likely shrink, and you can then try for a baby again. If I were you, I would talk to another doctor.

Carol - May 9th, 2005 9:50 AM

rasha- there are many women that have fibroids a lot bigger than yours and they go on to have successful pregnancies.

Sandy - May 9th, 2005 8:56 PM

I'm 13 weeks pregnant with baby number 2 (see my previous entry above). My fibroid was 5 cm in diameter before I even got pregnant and grew up to about 11cm in diameter during my first pregnancy. While it caused some extra discomfort and a few days of extreme pain, I delivered a healthy baby, full term and a good weight. The fibroid shrunk after delivery. Second time around the fibroid has grown again - so what? Baby is healthy and I know what to expect. Don't let doctors fill you with doom and gloom. Having done a lot of research during my first pregnancy I know that fibroids are very common and pregnancy is rarely compromised by fibroids. Although it does to a certain extent depend on what sort of fibroid you have (inside the uterus, within the wall of the uterus or attached to the outside). If you can, do some research (the internet is great) and find out as much as you can so you know what your doctor is talking about.

Allison - May 10th, 2005 1:15 PM

Did any of you have trouble conceiving with the fibroids?

D - May 10th, 2005 4:02 PM

No trouble whatsoever. I wasn't even really trying to conceive. We just weren't trying to prevent! Quit using birth control in October, got pregnant January.

Allison - May 10th, 2005 4:50 PM

D - Thanks.. I was hoping I would hear that from somone. I have had a fibroid for like 5 or 6 yrs.. my new ob/gyn is doing another ultrasound next week, just to make sure everything is ok while we are TTC (size, location, etc). Past docs have said that most people have very normal, healthy pregnancies with fibroids. I guess I am just worried since this is a new doctor and we have go all over my history again, etc. Nice to see so many people here in the same boat!!!

Sandy - May 10th, 2005 4:52 PM

Allison, yes and no. The first time I took over a year to conceive. Had all the tests and that's when they found the fibroid but the Dr said that it was unlikely that the fibroid had anything to do with it. Second time took no time at all.

jess - May 10th, 2005 8:09 PM

If you read my other posts I have a 11com fibroid and a 17 week babe!! Doc says tthere may be some discomfort but no reason why we cant have a healthy pregnancy/baby!! and like D - we weren't even trying, it was our first attempt at no birth control.......easy as pie!!
