If you read my other posts I have a 11com fibroid and a 17 week babe!! Doc says tthere may be some discomfort but no reason why we cant have a healthy pregnancy/baby!! and like D - we weren't even trying, it was our first attempt at no birth control.......easy as pie!!

Awesome.. all of this makes me feel so much better!!!!

Rach - May 15th, 2005 6:39 AM

I have multiple fibroids too (found at my 12 week scan - the biggest 5cm)- I'm on bed rest at the moment as I have had very light bleeding for the last 3 weeks. The doctors don't know if it is caused by the fibroids, I'm presuming it is from the information I have found from websites. The baby is fine, I have my own heartbeat monitor so I can listen to him/her everyday and check.... I have my scan in a couple of week so I am hoping that they have not grown any bigger. Good luck to you all with fibroids...!!!

Hello. I have a fibroid (4 cm last time it was checked) located near the cervical opening, but a little towards the left. My doctors said they won't know whether I will be able to deliver vaginally or by c-section until I actually try to deliver. I was told that, during the course of pregnancy, fibroids can remain the same size, enlarge, or get smaller. Mine seems to have stayed the same size. I was due 4 days ago and have not had any problems whatsoever due to the fibroid so far. I have read about having it removed, but found that the scar tissue that results from that may interfere with my ability to get pregnant in the future. It would most likely cause scar tissue to form in my uterine wall. A fertilized egg would not be able to implant itself there, thus, reducing the available area for implantation. Therefore, I have decided not to have it removed just yet. I hope this helps and good luck!

I am eight weeks and 1 day pregnant with a uterus size of about 15 weeks. I also have mulitple fibroids (two inside the wall). I have a very cautious OB who wants to see me every week to monitor the baby. I have to tell you before finding this website, I felt doom and gloom about being pregnant along with guilt. I don't want to do anything the hurt my baby, something I've always wanted for a long time (I'm 38). After seeing that I'm not alone and successful pregnancies are happening with fibroids, doom and gloom became excitement and awe as life is growing inside me. The baby is doing great by the way....we saw the baby and his or her's strong heartbeat at the 7th week!

rasha - May 16th, 2005 2:53 AM

thank you D, Carol and Sandy for your support. i went for ultrasound yesterday, i heard the heart beat of the baby, i was very happy. but the doctor is still saying that i might loose the baby because of the location of the fibroids, one is located at the upper left side of my uterine wall, and the other one on the right side of my uterine wall. the baby is in the middle. i'm scared all the time. i've checked the internet and they all say that they dont cause risk but still my doctor insists that the location of the fibroids is important

Carol - May 16th, 2005 9:28 AM

Hi Rasha-I'm glad everything is fine with the baby, however, I don't like your Dr's attitude about your pregnancy.He/she doesn't sound very supportive. Is there anyway you can get a second opinion see another Dr. about the location of the fibroids?

Carol - May 16th, 2005 9:34 AM

Hi Yolanda- I'm 15 weeks pregnant with a 18 week uterus which I'm fine with. The only thing is when people ask me how far along I am and I tell them they say "wow your big already" which sometime gets on my nerves. But other than that I feel great for a 35 year old. This is also my first pregnancy. Enjoy the ride!

Rach - May 16th, 2005 10:09 AM

Hi Yolanda and Carol.... I'm 18 weeks but look more like 25 weeks. So I know just how you are feeling - goodness knows what we will look like at 40 weeks eh!!??? Everyone was telling me that I looked a lot further than I am - at 12 weeks we were convinced we were having twins until the u/s confirmed our little fibroid friends!!! Take care everyone....

Sandy - May 16th, 2005 8:44 PM

Yeah you do get sick of people commenting how big you are. By 36 weeks you get people exclaiming that you must be about to give birth any
minute. And when you say "4 weeks to go" they look at you in disbelief and then usually pity. Oh well, its worth it in the end otherwise I wouldn't be doing it again.
Rasha - it does seem strange that your doctor is being so negative. The only thing I have read is a cause for concern is if the baby implants on a fibroid as this can affect blood supply to the placenta. But it sounds like baby isn't near the fibroids in your case. As for being stuck in between them so what. Babies are usually stuck in between a whole lot of internal organs that usually get pushed aside to make room. Keep being positive and keep us posted.

D - May 20th, 2005 12:10 PM

Ok.. update on my fibroid. The doc had a very hard time finding it yesterday because it is on the lower back side of my uterus, and the amniotic sac is in front of it... The baby is floating high up in the sac, presumably because the fibroid is pushing up on it. She had to do a vaginal u/s to find the fibroid at all, and then it was difficult. The part she was able to see is 2 cm. She isn't worried about it at all, but says that we probably won't be able to watch it after all, and that the only way we'll know if I have to have a c-section is by watching the baby and seeing if it drops! In the meantime, she's scheduled another u/s in 4 weeks to see what she can see by then!

rasha - May 21st, 2005 2:01 AM

carol, sandy, thanks a lot for your support. i'm not worried anymore. i prayed and asked God to protect the baby. now i'm feeling better. the doctor said that i might not face any problems but it's his job to tell me the truth if there is a risk or it's a normal pregnancy. he said fibroids can cause misscarraige that's why he's telling me this. he said we have to wait and see. i hope you both doing great. dont worry if people say you re too big for 18 oe 22 or 36 weeks. what is important is that you are pregnant and you re gonna have a great baby who will make you forget everything. and be sure you'll loose weight faster than you imagin. good luck to you all

I had misc 5 wks ago, it was my 1st preg. I had a large fibroid 12cm and it was degenrating so i had to be in the hospital becos of the pain. Dr says the miscarriage may be unrelated to the fibroid or may have irritated it & caused contractions. Next appt in 7 weeks. I'm concerned about next preg. How much do fibroids shrink after and do they grow again in next after degeneration. I'm skeptical about having surgery.

Sylvia - June 10th, 2005 12:17 AM

I found out with my first pregnancy that I had fibroids. I think I was about 12 wks when I was feeling lots of pelvic pain. I was out of work for about 2 wks. Then the pain finally went away. They found about four fibroids: two inside the uterus, one on top of the uterus and one towards the bottom. Then on a Friday when I was 21 wks, we went to get an ultrasound to find out that I was have a baby boy!! We were so happy. Everything looked fine and normal except for the stupid fibroids. Then Sunday came around and that was the saddest day of our lives. I lost my son. I gave birth to him and got to hold him. I was in shock. It’s still hard and I blame those dam fibroids because I was feeling the same pressure that I felt before. Therefore, I didn’t know if it was something else that was more serious. Well I finally had another u/s to see the size and how many. I had still four, but one was very big in the uterus and this could have been the reason why I lost my son. The fibroid and my son were fighting for room and I couldn’t do a thing about to protect him. I decided to get surgery to take them suckers out. They found eight of them inside! I was surprise. I had to wait 2 months to try to have a baby. This happened about 7 months ago and now I’m 10 wks pregnant! I’m excited, but very very scared. My husband said any sign of anything he’s going to take me to the ER. I just pray to God that I can carry to term and have a healthy baby. I’m also hoping that God sends me twins (to me it’s kind of getting my son back to me.) I miss him a lot. I feel empty sometimes, but I have to look forward to the future with my pregnancy now. Tomorrow I go in for an ultrasound, wish me good luck.

D - June 10th, 2005 8:48 AM

I'm so sorry Sylvia... I can't imagine how horrible that has been. From all the reading I've done, fibroids causing that drastic of complications is rare, so hopefully everything will go just fine this time! I'm so sorry your son was one of those cases.

Mari - June 27th, 2005 11:22 PM

Hello everyone, I have been reading all of your answers to the question of fibroids while being pregnant and i can't believe how many of your stories sound a lot like mine!!!! i am the proud mother of a 5 year old girl and 2 months ago i found out i was pregnant again. To my surprise i started bleeding at 11 weeks and when i went to the doctor i found out the fetus stopped growing at 6 weeks and that i had "a-lot" of fibroids. i had a d&c and today i went for my follow-up and i am totally distraught-My dr. told me that i have 3 fibroids, the largest being 6cm. he told me that i have two options right now, surgery or try to get pregnant again and risk losing the baby again. i don't know what to do, i don't think i could go through this emotional trauma again!!!!!
