Hello everyone, I have been reading all of your answers to the question of fibroids while being pregnant and i can't believe how many of your stories sound a lot like mine!!!! i am the proud mother of a 5 year old girl and 2 months ago i found out i was pregnant again. To my surprise i started bleeding at 11 weeks and when i went to the doctor i found out the fetus stopped growing at 6 weeks and that i had "a-lot" of fibroids. i had a d&c and today i went for my follow-up and i am totally distraught-My dr. told me that i have 3 fibroids, the largest being 6cm. he told me that i have two options right now, surgery or try to get pregnant again and risk losing the baby again. i don't know what to do, i don't think i could go through this emotional trauma again!!!!!

well ladies, i must say, i feel rather raeding your stories. i am 8 weeks and my doctor found 2 fibriods, about the size of pear. i'm having an sonogram next week, but right now i've been resting and praying that the fetus will be strong enough to "out live" the evil fibriods. reading your stories, healthy babies are possible... thanks so much.

I know this is no comfort for you all who have lost babies but I have to say it. We often forget just how common miscarriages are. Most doctors quote anything between 10-20% of confirmed pregnancies ending in miscarriage. And I think often doctors want to be able to tell you that something in particular is to blame - something they can fix. Fibroids may be responsible for a miscarriage - or they might not. Before you have surgery, think about your options. Having surgery can also lead to complications and risks that doctors might not want to tell you about. I don't want you to think I am anti-doctors. There is definately a time and place for medical intervention, but pregnancy is a miracle that transcends medical science. Doctors don't know everything.

i am 25 weeks with a 15 cm fibroid...and a tiny gall...104 lbs (well.....pre-pregnancy).....i have had no complications due to this big ole fibroid, except feeling quite squished in there...kinda the same as someone with twins.......but if the baby implants in a good spot and is able to grow faster than the fibroid (my son is even slightly bigger than average!) than it all can go just fine...i will have to have a c-section, but thats a small price to pay...my last dr said i probably wouldn't evn be able to concieve...but my new dr. is watching me closely, but says everything is fine.....so it can be done! the body is quite amazing!! i even have arthritis and for the first time in 30 years i dont need any pain meds...thanks to baby!! stay positive..,.normal pregnancies are very do-able with fibroids!

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I've posted. I'm now 22weeks 3days with a ole lot of fibroids.I have 3 large ones (one of them blocking the cervix) and quite a lot of small ones. I'm not sure if they're still growing or not, I just know that since my last scare (vaginal bleeding) back in the first trimester I haven't had any problems with them since. I had my 6th sonogram last week and my baby girl is growing well, and she weighs about a 1lb. I also heard her heartbeat for the first time which was amazing. I'll keep you guys posted. And thanks for your prayers.

can fibroids cause a delayed period?

Ruth - July 20th, 2005 5:53 PM

Hi, I am 33 yrs old and 22 weeks pregnant. I have been told that I have multiple fibroids and my uterus is as big as a 27 weeks. My most recent u/s showed 3 large fibroids measuring 10cm each as well as many more smaller ones. 2 of those large ones are on either side of my cervix and are blocking babys passage out. Dr says I have to have very bloody C and will loose a lot of blood, need a blood transfusion and maybe scar my uterus so much that I cant have another baby OR if I am bleeding too much they may just do a hysterectomy. I am terrified of both of these things! This is my first baby which I am exctatic about and I always planned on having 3 or 4 babes. My Dr is not a specialist so I worry about his ability to do this the best possible way. I would prefer not to mess with the fibroids at all and try to shrink them after the birth with drugs but they say one of the fibroids may be in the way of the C-section so they may have to cut through it. I could use any advice on speciliasts or similar experiences right now. I wish the best for all of you!

I don't know any specialists to advise you about... but I want to encourage you to DEFINATELY get another opinion! This sounds like potential for a traumatic situation, and it is worth investigating! You could try your nearest state university hospital. They may very well have specialists they can direct you to.

Does anyone out there know how fibroids actually start, or are they just one of those things that happen? I'm 12 weeks pregnant with baby #3 and just found out I have a 4cm fibroid. Dr said it won't cause any problems, we'll just keep an eye on it. Also, the material that I've read says that they are most common in women over the age of 35, but reading this page, there seem to be a few of us under that. Just curious :-)

Hello All
I am 19wks and have several small fibroids. 2wks ago I was having severe pain but no bleeding. The pain felt like constipation and labor pains. I was not sure if it was the pain from the fibroids or what. I am happy to say that I am feeling well now. I feel a little movement in my lower adominal and my private area. Do you think this could be the baby? Sorry so many questions but it has been 18 years.
