Kidney Stones During Pregnancy.

I'm so happy to hear your painfree at this moment.I really hope it stays that way for the rest of your pregnancy.I.ve had 4 U/S done by now just because i put i guilt trip on my Dr.First U/S was requested by her just to make sure that my due date was AUG 24 and the u/s dropped it to AUG 14.Then I told her I really wanted to know the gender so we did one at 18 or 19 weeks but it was hard to see, she was leaning more towards a girl because she couldn,t see any boyparts, she was70% sure it was a girl.I knew from the beginning that it was a boy,not because i wanted a boy i really dont care i want one of each anyways, but i just knew.I also knew I was pregnant 2 weeks before I was able to take a pregnancy test.I took one a week before i was supposed to get my period and it came back negative(duh) and than i took one 2 days after i was late and that one was positive, 2 days later i took another one and it was positive again.A week later I went to see my Dr and they confirmed my pregnancy.(I'm so paranoid,a week after that I took another home pregnancy test and guess what? it was positive!!!) Ok, at 23 or 24 weeks,-i can't remmember shit nowadays-we took another u/s and it was very clear it was a boy.She even made sure it wasn't the umbilical cord-THAT REALLY MADE MY HUBBY PROUD- but she showed us both, the penis and the umbilical cord. And 3 weeks ago she did another one and yep, still a boy.It is very need to see him now, he is so big and I have a picture were he has his hand by his forehead, and you can count 5 li'l fingers and it is just very cute. The last u/s was done because she almost tried to kill me.Ok,i had to go in for another papsmear (3 months ago it came back abnormal)and she did i really don't know what but i starded bleeding really bad, I had that whole bed and floor covered with blood.I freaked out, the nurse panicked and my DR just looked worried. She asked the nurse to go and get somegauze to pad me dry,the nurse runs out of the room, LEAVES THE DOOR OPEN, runs back in,my Dr was trying to let me know what happened and not to worry too much.I guess she hit a vein in my cervix and its so sensitive there and concentraded with blood that was the reason it bled so much, but I had to stay in so theycould monitor me so she asked the nurse from hell to get me some sanitary napkins. When the nurse walked in (I had just gotten dressed) she says:I"M FREAKING OUT<ARE YOU FREAKING OUT???Well yeah,at that moment I really started freaking out.So my Dr comes in I'm crying and she told me she was going to do a U/S just for me and her to feel better and make sure that the blood didn't come from the placenta.Once again she asked the nurse from hell to go and fetch my husband so he could be there with the u/s and of course let him know whats going on it was all taking quite some time.MY hubby tells me later the nurse came out running and said:Hurry, your wife and the dr need to see you inside right now!!!!!!! And of course as he came in the room I was still sniffing and my Dr trying to comfort me.You now what he must have thought.Any ways,THAT is how I got my last u/s.I went through hell for that one but now I think its funny:ARE YOU FREAKING OUT?lol.I tell you everything during this pregnancy has been "different" The results of that papssmear came back normal, when I went in for glucose test it came back high, did the 3 hour glucose test came back normal,Jeez, and people still ask me WHILE i'm pregnant if i'm gonna have another one!!!!!!!!!! Probably,as soon as i have a severe case of amnesia and forgotten about all of this. When I get into one of those poor me moods I snap out of it real quick the moment i feel my baby kick or pop or whatever he is doing.I also get that bruised feeling inthe morning, all my muscles in my back and tummt hurt and it takes a good 2 hours before i feel like everything is settling again.Ok,I think i wrote enough now, guess i could go write a book.I'm freaking out....lol. |

Im 5 months pregnant with my first child, I have pain in my back, shooting through to my abdomen. I spent three days in hospital and they couldnt find anything. They put me on painkillers and it kind of went away but now its back. It helps to lie on my left side with my right leg raised on a pillow. Could it still be kidney stones even if there is no blood in the urine? The doctors didnt find anything in urine or blood samples, and the ultrasound didnt show anything either. Please help, I am in a lot of pain and its so frustrating that they cant find anything. |

Bria - you're quite right, you know all about your kidney stones and they obviously weren't that bad - so shut up about it. Some people here actually have some serious issues. |

I am pregnant with my first baby. I had been having kidney pain for a about 3 weeks and the Dr. finally sent me to the hospital. They don't think that I have kidney stones, but rather that the baby is laying on my ureter. I was reading about all you ladies that have stents, and I thought that I would suggest asking your urologist to place a nephrostomy tube instead. They talked about putting a stent in me and my urologist refused because of the pain that it causes women that are pregnant, so he chose the the tube. Its a little of headache at first, getting used to emptying a bag everytime that you go to the bathroom, but it only took me about 4 days to feel like my old self. They change the tube every two weeks to four, but recovery is only hours and there is no more pain. I've now had the tube for about a month, and I'm 26 weeks along. I hope that all goes well for the rest of you!! |

Paula I don't think I explain myself very good, the baby didnt dropped down, the stent did, Anyways I don;t have the stent (thank God!)but it was extremely painful the procedure! I was crying and holding my breath the whole time! I wasn't given any anesthesia at all. The urologist took a long time pulling it put because there had formed stones all arond the stent!! can you believe this??They said that if I developed one more infection I'll get another stent. ha,ha like I'm going to let them insert a stent again, I don't think so, especially after the extremely painful removal....Thanks for your thoughts Paula! |

Help! I just read all these posts and felt major relief. I was beginning to think I was a hypercondriac or a whiner. Here is my situation. I'm 28yrs & 26wks pg (girl). In april (@15 weeks pg) I was hospitalized with a kidney stone. I had a stent put in (right side) but was told my urologist could not find the stone. I was released 2 days later and have had all the pain that goes along with the stent. On June 12 I went to our local urgent care because I am so sick of the ER and my doctors acting like I am imagining my pain and nothing is wrong. The Dr. @ urgent care sent me immediatly over to the University Hosp (different from where i usually go) cause My urine was nasty and I had 300+ protein in it too. So they admitted me for contractions (stopped them),pain management basically and for a UTI, overnight. The next day the Dr (OB intern),my OB has no priv at this hosp, and the attending urologist (who spoke to my urologist) basically dismmissed and what was going on entirely and released me on percocet and macrobid. I stopped the macrobid yesterday but for the past few days have had major flank pain, abdominal pain, chills, vomitting, awful nausea but basically no fever (i seldom get fevers with kidney infections) and contractions that manage to g away on thier own. I can barely even tolerate water. Also I should add, I can't seem to pee and when i do it brings me to my knees, earlier it was very bloody and cloudy but now its just cloudy w/ faint pinkness. My stent removal surgery is scheduled for tuesday the 28th. What do you think I should do. I hate going to the ER because they admit me and then after that they treat me like I'm full of shit (usually my OB and the urologist) or just want the pain meds or something which in turn convinces my hubs that it is in my head too. Should I call the on-call URO or my OB (hate him) and see what i should do or should i hold out until tuesday even though I am having the mild contractions? I am tired of being treated like a drug crazed hypocondriac. Any advice would be wonderful. I can't take this pain. Thanks. |

Also, could you be having a reaction to the drugs you're taking? I know codeine makes me vomit. But, it is probably the pain causing the reaction.. And who cares if you DO want to be admitted for pain medication? Is there something wrong with that? If the doctors can't fix your problem, then they should at least help to take your pain away so that you don't have a baby on the weekend who has to live in an incubator for the next 4 months because its lungs aren't ready. If you're lucky, after a few days it'll subside. But without hydration and pain management, it'll be a LONG few days. |

I am 8 months pregnant and had a horrible kidney stone attack. I went to the hospital thinking i was having the baby. Finally after hours of vomiting and no relief to pain medication they finally did a ultrasound on my kidney in which the stone was found. They hooked me up to a Morphine Pump for 8 hours and then I passed the stone. I was shocked that they gave me such strong medication but at the time i was in no need to argue. If i did not pass the stone within 12 hours i was going to have a stent then surgery. Once i passed the stone i was instantly relieved. |

THANK YOU! After I posted this message Thursday night, I decided to call my urologist. He said to get into the ER asap for the baby's sake. Well here it is Tuesday and I got home an hour ago. It has been the longest 5 days of my life. I went straight to L & D from the ER and my contractions were about 3 minutes apart. I am dialated to 3 and 60% effaced. Thankfully my OB was on vacation all weekend. I had my stent replaced Friday night. was scheduled to go home sat evening but started to have contractions sat afternoon so I stayed. They gave me terbuteline but didn't stop them so they started a magnesium treatment. OMG I never want to experience that again. Thankfully though the contractions slowed down but not enough. I was given steroids for the babys lungs and then basically left to lay in bed till Monday. Early yesterday my OB was back and his only words to me were "You are too much for me,I am releasing you as my patient, I'm transferring you to UMC"(the university hosp) and walked out of my room. Needless to say, I was dumbfounded. I was transferred to UMC and released today but not because i didn't have a need to be there but because 1)I could do bed rest at home w/ help of contraction meds and 2) I was stir crazy. I was sent home with demoral, antibiotics, and nifediprine (sp?) but as soon as i contract again i go back in. ALL OF THIS BECAUSE OF MY STENT. I now realize thaty it isn't in my head and that my OB was just a piece of shit with a license. I am so irrate over that. I am extremely lethargic now so I am going to nap but I will write some more later. Thank you for you input. I think I will print ouit this forum topic and send it to my "old" OB. oh, and my anesthesiologist was telling me that his wife is 23 weeks PG and just had a stent put in and she was already complaining of the pain and it's been a week. I told him to tell her to come to this site and see she isn't alone. Thanks to all and good luck to those of you that need it. Lindsay |
