THANK YOU! After I posted this message Thursday night, I decided to call my urologist. He said to get into the ER asap for the baby's sake. Well here it is Tuesday and I got home an hour ago. It has been the longest 5 days of my life. I went straight to L & D from the ER and my contractions were about 3 minutes apart. I am dialated to 3 and 60% effaced. Thankfully my OB was on vacation all weekend. I had my stent replaced Friday night. was scheduled to go home sat evening but started to have contractions sat afternoon so I stayed. They gave me terbuteline but didn't stop them so they started a magnesium treatment. OMG I never want to experience that again. Thankfully though the contractions slowed down but not enough. I was given steroids for the babys lungs and then basically left to lay in bed till Monday. Early yesterday my OB was back and his only words to me were "You are too much for me,I am releasing you as my patient, I'm transferring you to UMC"(the university hosp) and walked out of my room. Needless to say, I was dumbfounded. I was transferred to UMC and released today but not because i didn't have a need to be there but because 1)I could do bed rest at home w/ help of contraction meds and 2) I was stir crazy. I was sent home with demoral, antibiotics, and nifediprine (sp?) but as soon as i contract again i go back in. ALL OF THIS BECAUSE OF MY STENT. I now realize thaty it isn't in my head and that my OB was just a piece of shit with a license. I am so irrate over that. I am extremely lethargic now so I am going to nap but I will write some more later. Thank you for you input. I think I will print ouit this forum topic and send it to my "old" OB. oh, and my anesthesiologist was telling me that his wife is 23 weeks PG and just had a stent put in and she was already complaining of the pain and it's been a week. I told him to tell her to come to this site and see she isn't alone. Thanks to all and good luck to those of you that need it. Lindsay

Wow, it isn't every day that I actually feel like I might have helped someone. I'm glad that you went to the hospital, and congrats on switching OB's. "If I don't understand it, it must not exist" isn't really what you were looking for in your moment of pain! You are far better off without him, and he probably saw legal action in his future if he didn't unload you as a patient, so all is well.

I have to say I feel like a human rock quarry nowadays. I am up to 30+ stones since February. Thankfully, only a few have required percocet and a hospital visit. Maybe I am becoming immune to the pain. I'm 30 wks. I can't imagine how many I will have passed by the time I go into labor. Am waiting for my urologist to come back from vacation. He was the one who performed surgery for the stones during my second trimester of my previous pregnancy. My OB's have been extremely sympathetic. I just want to go and take a pee without any pain. Is that too much to ask?

I have been asked to take extra Vitamin C twice a day. I'm assuming it's helping with the stones as I have passed so many. Anyone have any other tips I should be considering?

jamie - June 30th, 2005 3:01 AM

my doctor advised me to take cranberry pills, so i'm gunna try those
my urologist told me that after you pass a stone or it brakes apart it will sometimes stretch your ureter tubes so if you have another sometimes it will pass easier.well i hope these pills will at least help.

Well I just got out of the hospital for the second time during my pregnancy...more kidney stone attacks...I'm 37 weeks and cannot wait to hae my son and be able to deal with these stones so wish me luck!

Thank heavens I found this site! As awful as it is that we're all in pain, it's a relief to know that I'm not alone. I went to the ER two weeks ago with debilitating pain and was told that nothing could be wrong with me because nothing was wrong with the baby. They told me that the pain was an 'uncomfortable' side effect of pregnancy. After two more trips in three days, I was finally told that there was blood in my urine and I most likely had kidney stones, but they couldn't find the stones via ultrasound. I was told to drink plenty of water and take Percaset for the pain (I was very relieved to read that others have been taking this and the babies turned out fine -- thank you for sharing). I haven't passed anything but the attacks seem to be getting further apart and slightly less painful. The pain also seems to be radiating from my back to my lower abdomen now. Could this be a positive sign that the stone is on its way out? How long does it take to pass a stone? Thank you!

jamie to CF - July 5th, 2005 12:02 AM

your very right i was told that they hurt the most when they stop in the tube but you can feel them move down and it sounds like you will pass it soon
youll feel it when you do there is no certain time it takes you just pass them when you do.

Sheila to Nicole - July 5th, 2005 5:29 PM

You should have your doctor induce you to then deal with the stones. I was induced at 37 weeks with both m children. They were fine. I am going to be induced at 36 weeks with this pregnancy. I am 26 weeks now. The attck is so much worse then the delivery!

LNM - July 6th, 2005 11:05 PM

Dehydration causes kidney stones. Were you dehydrated during your pregnancies? Also the summer is the worst time for a flare up.

Cheri - July 14th, 2005 1:38 AM

my daughter is almost due to give birth, her entire prgnacy she had gallbladder problems. What are the chances of her having a bad attack during delivery or the gallbladder bursting

elizabeth to Deanna - July 15th, 2005 12:40 AM

I'm really happy for you, that you can finally be pain free, i'm not pain free anymore but i still feel much better than i did a few months ago. as for the old wives tales, my first daughter i carried high, my second daughter i carried very low, this one (another girl) i am carrying low again. have you tried the heart rate? My doctor and my friends midwife say this is pretty accurate (but not always!!) for girls the heartrate is supposed to be around 140 and above, boys are in the 120's to 130's. Doesn't always work but hey might as well have some fun!
to Bria, you have no right to say what you have said, i had 2 kids with no pain meds and would rather do that 100 times than have another stone, these women aren't weak, i would have to say that to go though all of this and still have a baby would make you extremely strong, so get pregnant, get a kidney stone then just tough it out.

Tami - July 17th, 2005 1:29 PM

Cheri-go to gallstones during pregnancy-it is on the complication forum. There are a few of us on there and maybe one of them knows the chances of it bursting. I think if they control the gallbladder it should be alright. One lady-Shelly is going through the same thing.

De Anna to Elizabeth - July 18th, 2005 11:56 PM

Im carrying low and it looks like a basketball its all out front , although i did gain weight in my thighs and butt. Whats more common gaining in the thighs with a girl or boy? the ultrasound i had when i was 18wks far along the lady said "it looks like a girl". but everyone who sees me says it looks like a boy. then u have people who say "trust the lady who did the ultrasound , she knows what shes doing". im thinking maybe it could be a boy and his penis wasnt present or whatever , this is all confusing. people say carrying high is a girl . .low is a boy. but i also read thats a myth it depends on your body structure. and people usually carry high in their first pregnancys because their Muscles are stronger... then if you were to be pregnant a 2nd or 3rd time your muscle tissue isnt so strong anymore so you carry lower. I like hearing different peoples opinions though its fun to guess from there... so if anyone else knows anymore myths or facts (whatever u wanna call em) id love to hear em. im 37 weeks...i dont have much longer to go.

Amy - July 20th, 2005 2:31 PM

I Have had Stones with all 3 of my pregnancy. I was put in the hospital and gave stadol. I passed all of them. With my last pregnancy they found out that I was low in calcium and my body would leach the calcium from my bones and it could not brek it down. They gave me calcium carbinate. I have not had a stone since I was 3 months Pregnant and I am Now 6 months !

Bria - July 22nd, 2005 4:07 PM

Ok , well tell me this ... if i have no business being on this site (cause its for pregnant women with stones) of which i once was .... then why do we have women on here talking about old wives tales and gender myths?? Do yah have an explination for that???
