I'm going thru the same thing. Dr. says I am seven weeks by the ultrasound but there is no fetus and no heartbeat, however hCG levels are still rising, but slowly. Dr. wants me to have a DNC. I have had some very light spotting twice but both times it stopped within an hour or so. Don't know what to do now....I'm not ready to give up but i'm afraid I'm setting myself up for major disappointment.

Katielou2, I did the same thing. I had rising HCG's albeit they were not doubling and I had spotted once. They told me from the time I was 5 weeks until I was 11 weeks that I needed a D&C. Once your numbers get over 1200, you should see a sac and they did with me and after 1500 there should be a yolk, but there wasn't with me. I waited until 11 weeks, had one more ultrasound to be sure, then I agreed to the D&C which was very hard to do with my numbers still rising and the fact that this was my first pregnancy at age 33. Since the D&C, I've had another miscarriage, but I had this one naturally with the numbers going down on their own. I don't want to make you upset or down, but I also don't want to give you the false hopes that were fed to me in case it comes down to the D&C after all. Just prepare yourself for the worst just in case and if it turns out to be ok, then you will be especially thankful. Keep us posted.

Katielou, check out the website www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com/ There are many stories of hope on the board. People who waited and then found a nice strong heartbeat and baby. Of course not everyone gets a miracle, but you'd be surprised how many doomed pregnancies went on to healthy babies. Again, not trying to give false hope, but sometimes things do turn around. Best of luck to you!!!!!!!!

wow, after hearing all this i don't what to think about my situation...i am 8 weeks pregnant, and i just started bleeding yesterday morning, my doctor gave me an injection to stop the bleeding, and told me to stay in bed, it slowed it down but after the medicine wore off the bleeding got heavier...i had passed some blood clots this morning, but i don't have alot of pain just like normal period cramps. i saw my doctor today and she gave me an ultra sound and a transvaginal ultrasound, nothing can be seen, but i had an ultasound at 5 weeks the first visit, there was a tiny spot in the center of my uterus...then i had another ultasound at 6 and a hlf weeks and there was something in the middle of my uterus, now today there is nothing and my doctor says my uterus has grown but she als see's something that appears to be outside the uterus about 3 centimeters and now she tells me i could possibly have an ectopic preg. and i need to have another blood test done on wed. to see if hgc. levels have risen...so i' just don't know what to think about all of this?????

hey i'm back....had 3rd u/s today which showed fetal pole measuring 5mm w/no heartbeat. dr. had told me he is 100% sure i will miscarry. so now i wait and pray for a miracle.

I had two miscarriages last year.I am pregnant again,My hcg level in 4.2 week was 194 and two days later it was 577.I'm on premetrium and scheduled for sonogram on 01/13.Do you think this can be a viable pregnancy?I'm very worried

T - January 11th, 2006 10:40 AM

Ann, it sounds like your hormone levels are high enough and they are doubling. Best of luck to you!!!

I had my D&C yesterday, we will be trying again in 6 weeks. Hopefully, we will have better luck next time.

In December i had to go to doctor, who referred me to hospital, confirmed pregnant, after having abdominal pain, hcgs in 170, decreasing to 70's and then down to 40's, now at this time they are 45, has anybody experienced this, what do you suggest i could do, do you think it will go down naturally, i am in and out of hospital having beta hcg tests done. I hope somebody can help me, i have a 16 month old and hoping for another baby. Thank you.

Question to all:
On fri had a confirmed pregnancy with hcg levels of 698...had some bleeding, cramping, clotting....went to emergency...had more bloodwork done and hcg came back at only 1088. Gyno said cervix was closed...but am still worried if it is viable....anyone offer any advice?

nicole - February 3rd, 2006 2:13 AM

i recently went to the dr.s because of brown spotting, no painful cramping or nething, i think im about 6-7 wks. (my cycle was messed up tho, i got 2 periods in dec.) and all they kept saying was miscarriage, they sent for blood work and when i called the results came back that i had low levels of hcg. they have me set up to have more blood work done in 4 days, they also cancelled my first u/s. so my question is, is this normal procedure? are they jumping to conclusions too soon and does it sound as if im probably having a miscarriage? they really have me worried cuz i want this baby soo bad! any help/advise would be great!

sharonl - February 7th, 2006 11:12 AM

Having read all of your experiences - I feel compelled to add my own. I have had two prevous miscarriages and am currently pregnant but was diagnosed with a missed miscarriage 12 days ago. I have no pain and no bleeding - I have no idea what my HCG levels are - they don't tell you things like that in the UK. I have another u/s on Friday but am terrified - I feel sick etc - am off work and going crazy. Is it possible that they have made a mistake - they said that there was no hopeif they couldn't see the heartbeat at 6 weeks, when a week before a different radiographer found it.

B - February 7th, 2006 5:21 PM

I to have had a similar experience. On 1/29 had some mild back cramps and spotten some very minimal brown discharge. Went in for a sonogram on 1/30 they found nothing but an enlarged uterus. Np told my husband and I we had miscarried. Sent us for an HCG that same day and asked to repeat it in 2 days to confirm miscarriage. Hcg on 1/30 came out to 899 on 2/1 came out 1445. Had a repeat sonogram yesterday still nothing just an enlarged Uterus. Had me repeat the HCG yesterday got the results 4200. So the NP tells me you might be pregnant with twins very ealry though. You might have miscarried a twin and will more then likely loose the other. Or you already miscarried but you body is still making the HCG. Last but not least a tubal pregnancy. But cant diagnose that till I feel some pain on 1 side. She apologies for leaving in Limbo as she calls it. But cant give me an definitive results. Has anyone ever heard about this before. I going to look for a second opinion with another doctor. As this NP just keeps on telling me I need a DNC.

sharonl - February 8th, 2006 4:09 AM

B, I had an experience similar to yours with my second mc. The drs just don't know. I had an ERPOC (similar to a D and C) as there was no real hope left.

sharonl - February 12th, 2006 4:04 PM

Went to the hospital again on friday for another scan - they said there was no hope left and wanted to book me for an erpoc. I refused and asked for drug management, this meant going back to my gp and then being referred to another hospital.

Once there, I had another scan and the specialist there disagreed with the midwife at hospital number 1. He thinks that there is still hope and has put me onto a course of hormone treatement. I return for another scan to see whether there is any change on Friday - fingers crossed.

katielou2 - February 13th, 2006 4:44 AM

well it's finally over. I started miscarrying the day before my scheduled D&C but they went ahead and did it. the surgery went quickly but there were some complications. but it's finally done now. still trying to decide whether we want to try again soon or just wait. i admit i'm terrified of having this happen again. best of luck to all of you.

Patti - February 13th, 2006 10:08 AM

Katielou, so sorry to hear about your m/c. I wish you all the best for the future. Sharonl, wow, that's really great that you have someone agreeing with you that there is still hope. I will pray for you. Also, you might want to check out www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com they have wonderful stories of "sure to miscarry" stories that had happy endings. Best of luck and keep us posted.
