Thanx a lot guys for your encouraging words. I'm also in the same boat in South Africa. According to my dates I'm suppose to be 9 weeks, I went for an ultrusound, no baby only the sac. My bloot test shows 6-7 weeks. I've been doing hCG levels which are rising slowly. Pray for me too.I hope everything goes well.

Jfu- I am so sorry to hear what is going on with you as well. I think you definitely deserve the love and care of another physician. I am finding it hard to find information regarding this subject and am at such a loss. When they did my ultrasound yesterday there was indeed the beginnings of a baby, they even gave me a picture of the ultrasound. The tech and the doc both said that their gut feelings are that I have a normal 5wk 6day old pregnancy and that the numbers are just all screwed up. I know the numbers may be off, but not by two weeks. I guess I am wondering what the possibilities are. Have you found any other sites or advice? I'm so tearful today and I have to wait until Monday for another HCG test and have to wait until Wed. for another ultrasound. I hope you are well!

Julie it sounds like you have a normal healthy pg be positive . It is in fact true that women can have delayed ovulation brought on by a number of things incl stress or illness or just your natural cycle. The phase between your period and ovulation is called the follicular phase and can vary dramatically so it is possible that you could be off by 14 days!! I hope this brings you some peace of mind..... JFU I just went through the same thing had increasing hcg levels saw gestational sac and then stopped growing but hcg levels continued to go up. There is alot more to it you can read my previous entry from April long story short I've been on a 2 month rollercoaster of being poked and prodded, am I pg or not, I even went to a specialist, the Dr. told me possibly my progesterone was supporting the preg, ie the sac and hcg, but was not viable as evidenced by no growth , no blood perfusion to sac, and hcg though increasing were not doubling. Bottom line you need to look at all factors and make your decision if there is a possibility your dates could be off you may want to wait otherwise you may be having a missed miscarriage , meaning that for some reason your body is not yet ready to let go and it may take weeks for it to finally miscarriage and it still may not and do you want to put yourself through that? I don't mean to be brutal I just want you to be prepared and make an informed decision. I certainly wish you the best and I understand your frustration this is actually my second miscarriage after 2 healthy children and came as a shock never thought it would happen to me but am finding out very common and it really helps to talk about it again wish you the best. By the way it looks like after 8 long weeks I'm finally coming to the end of my nightmare as I 'm bleeding (not a lot light to mod evn brown w/ mod cramping) and hcg levels are dropping and last us revealed no sac any more. This actually comes as a relief as I was scheduled for my second d&c which was then cancelled . Hope you all find your answers.

Thanks for your thoughts julie-im hoping your hcg levels are good today!!
I havent really found sites that can give a definate answer, it appears that each womans pregnancy is so different and unique that it is hardto say if what a symptom means to one person means the same to another. I have decided to let nature take its course (no dnc) and made a doc appt with a NEW doctor for June 7. hopefully i'll either have miscarried by then or they can tell me what is going on with my body (still off and on spotting) but i will be checking this site to see how things are coming for you-so keep in touch!! Suzanne, im soo sorry for your loss. I hope you keep your spirits up and know that we are all praying and are here for you. Thanks for the advice. I think I will wait until i can get a new doc, then if he says i should get a dnc i might. (my old doc fig i was going to miscarry naturally by now).

Julie - May 16th, 2005 7:11 PM

JFU- Good luck with your new doctor. I am actually an ICU nurse, so I know first hand how big the differences in doctors can be. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I had my hcg level drawn this morning but they said they won't have the results until tomorrow. More hurry up and wait! I am hopeful though as so far I've had no spotting or anything. We'll see. Good luck to you and your new doc!

I dont have an answer but i have been freaking out with these same symptoms. Im stationed in Germany so i was out doing a field exercise to find out i was pregnant. Same day i had heavy bleeding. 2 docs told me i was miscarrying. They sent me back to my post and other docs did the hcg qn to find it slowly rising. An ultra sound showed a gestational sac, whatever that means. So i am now checking my hcg and waiting for another u/s on the 25th of may. My hcg is up to 1624 and they think im about 6 weeks. My problem is no one seems to give me an answer and i have trouble getting help with my situation. This website has helped out answering some of my questions.

Hi! I'm glad you guys found everything okay, greg and shannon sometimes doctor's suck! Has this ever happened to anyone? Can someone help me? I have a 14 minoth old after 2 miscarriages and I am currently pregnant again. I have no doctor nor health insurance or even any medicaid at least. When I found out I was pregnant through a hpt I went to my nearest shoddy clinic where they checked my thyroid levels since I had a history of problems with that, they came back noemal. Then I started to spot a bit and had a big splotch of blood with tiny, tiny pieces of tissue and not alot. So I went tho the nearest shoddy hospital where they made me wait a total of 14 hours before even seeing me. Once in the back they took some blood which did'nt even seem to help any and I'll explain further on. Then they did an u/s and said they could'nt really tell b/c it might be too early (somewhere between 5-6 weeks I don't even know how to calculate it) . After 5 more hours of not telling me squat I was sent home after being up virtually the whole night which can't be too good either. So, I report back to the shoddy clinic for 2 days of testing my hcg levels and go back today to see the ob/gyn WHO's NOT EVEN THERE!! They tell me there was a rise in my hcg levels only I can't remember if it was at a normal rate or not b/c that dr. was an imbecile, too. I am told to come back later in the afternoon when the ob/gyn will be there but I call first and as it turns out she won't be in today! Plus their closed over the weekend and I don't think she'll be there Monday! What should I do I'm thinking of going downtown to the main hospital but would an ambilance come get me considering I'm under 20 weeks and not bleeding heavy, heavy. It's mostly light bleeding here and there with a couple of small tissue bits accompanied. Is it a miscarriage? If it is it was'nt like my last 2 in the least bit..What could it be? What should I do?

well i posted a really optimistic entry before about how my baby had a heart beat. well i was about 8 weeks pregnant and i started having brownish discharge. one morning i woke up with a spot of blood. i ran to the docter ASAP she did an ultrasound and my baby had lost its heartbeat. the docters ended up being right. it wasn't a normal pregnancy. the low HCG levels let them know that from the start. i had to give this baby a chance but it wasn't ment to be. She even blew the picture up 10 times its size to see if there was any movement at all and there wasn't. I had a D&C that day. with the baby being that far along it would have been very hard to pass that amout of "tissue" at home. I am now wearing the patch. We are not going to start trying again for a long time. it was very hard to see! i wish everyone out there the best of luck. i hope your story turns out better than mine.

This is such a helpful site, i wish i had found it a few wks ago. I also had low hcg levels, only 3600 at what we thought to be 6wks after LMP. 2 wks later, i started bleeding with clotting and ran to the ER where I was examined and the dr was positive that i wasn't dilating - cervix was still closed and the uterus felt pregnant (we had some concerns as to whether it was ectopic). Blood tests showed the hcg at only 4500. the dr was concerned at this point and called for an ultrasound which revealed an empty sac. i was told it was a complete miscarriage and sent home. i had no cramping at all and the bleeding continued for the next 4 days, until finally, the sac was expelled. we would have been 8wks. i was told that the baby might have stopped developing 2 - 3 wks ago, which may account for the hcg not rising and now my body is just recognising the loss and dealing with it. it was our 1st so it was pretty devastating to know that at the time we were just getting excited and telling our families, it was already over. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you going through loss. I hope you go encouraged knowing that (a) you are able to conceive (b) this was not your fault, just probably a feutus that your body recognised as not viable to begin with. To all those with more positive stories, I truly wish you all the best the remainder of your pregancy - healthy mother, healthy babies. All the best to those of us trying again. When it finally happens, hang in there, ladies, don't be afraid with the next pregnacy. We'll do fine - that's the approach I am choosing to take.

hi thankyou forallthe good information on this site. I took a hpt and it was positive I am diabetic so I went to the dr as soon as possible. at sonogram there was no sign of a fetus. They took hcg levels and they were 202 I did the second beta today and I am waiting for the results. This is the craziest thing I have ever gone through. I always wanted a child but I am scared at the low hcG. can anyone offer any advice?

Li Chen - May 26th, 2005 1:30 AM

I have the same story and finally I had the D&C to take the sac out.

DeAnne - May 26th, 2005 1:01 PM

I have had a similar story but A not so happy ending, I found out I was pregnant in april I had some pain on my right side, went to the er and they did an ultrasound they found a sac but no embreo they thought it had benn to earl, I was 5 weeks so the next day I went to my dr. and he found the heartbeat and all looked well, went back to the dr. for a monthly checkup on 5-19-05 and he did another ultrasound, I was supposed to be 10 weeks and there was no heartbeat and the measurements said I was only 7 1/2 so there was no heart beat for weeks I had a dnc the following day, It is definitly a tramatic experience and I pray that more people have miracles like I have read on this site, GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!

Can anyone help with this? I am going through a bad time and j ust wonder if thre is any reason to stay positive.

My LMP was 4/1. I had my ist ob/gyn visit on 5/24, The u/s showed one abnormal sac with no heartbeat and one normal sac witha ferus and a fluttering heartbeat. Dr says fetus is smaller than what it should be at that point. He didnt say what it was measuring but I was 7w3d on the 24th.

I got a blood test on that day then another 2 days later

5/24 results 12298
5/26 results 12181

So my hcg declined. The nurse who gave me the results only said that the #'s did not look reassuring. Does this mean I am going to m/c for sure? Can the declining # have anything to do with the abnormal sac w/o a fetus/heartbeat?

My next u/s is on 6/1 and I feel like I am going to have an anxiety attack before that day ever comes

Thank you for any help you can give.
