Did anyone out there get pregnant within three months of having the methotrexate shot? If so, did you deliver a healthy baby?

Kylie - August 2nd, 2005 10:06 AM

Julie: I went to my doctor whenever I was 5 weeks pregnant....but I went there for a Pap. He was extremely busy in the office and when I told him that I was pregnant again all he said was that he couldn't do an ultrasound that day because his machine was broken. He also said that for 5 weeks he wouldn't be able to see anything anyways. So I have to go back in about a week and a half from now...when I am like 7 1/2 weeks pregnant. I didn't think about anything at first. Then my mom mentioned it and said that she thinks maybe we got pregnant again too soon after the shot. I guess that I just have to pray for the best. There isn't anything that can be done now. I will have to wait until I go back to my doctor.

Julie: Another thing, my doctor didn't really make it clear to me when I could get pregnant again. I remember asking him and all that he said was whenever we get this baby out of your system (my ectopic) then we will worry about that.

Kylie:
You won't be able to see anything on an ultrasound. Typically the methotrextae shot causes deformities that will not be seen until later on. I do hope everything is ok. I am surprised that your doctor didn't tell you to wait????? Good luck with everything!

Hi. I love you guys for posting this question. I had a horrible experience. Had a DNC done to end a pregnancy Aug 3. I also had an enjection of Methatrixate one week previous. I just went to an OB this morning and he confirmed what I have been reading on the internet about Methatrixate and DNC's. Usually waiting until one period is sufficient. I told the Dr about my concern with the Methatrixate injection and he said it's out of your system by your next period. I wouldn't worry yourself about having a baby with problems. I would have worried if you had the injection while being pregnant, which is what happened to me and why I had the DNC done to termenate the pregnancy. So now I'm just waiting to get my period - hopefully in the beginning of September. Cross my fingers! Good luck to you and and don't worry, I'm sure the baby will be fine.

I am pregnant with a possible ectopic pregnancy. I am also nursing a 9 month old baby. I was told they may give me methotrexate to end my pregnancy if it is indeed in my tubes. I am crossing my fingers as I hope it is in my uterus eventhoguh an early ultrasound showed nothing..however something suspicious was seen in my fallopian tube. I too want to conceive soon after and am worried about not being able to beacuse of this toxic drug and also damage to my tube..which can be the reason for an ectopic in the first place. Anyone else have an ectopic who is breastfeeding and has to tak metho blah blah? Thanks

Hi Everyone, I am like yous a was given methetraxate on the 16 July 2007 for a suspected etopic which a dont think it was a was told at first it was a miscarraige, and asked if I had passed anytghing a said yes a bit of tissue, I then had to go back for blood work and it had dropped quite a bit from 600 to 300 they thgought my body was dealing with it, it then only went to 220 I then got an internal scan and thats what they diagnosed me with an suspected etopic, I had no pain jsut bleeding, they gave me 3 options leave me teh way a was which would take forever, the jag or an operation, after one week it went to 25 then the week after it went to below 2 I had no major side effects from it and had my first cycle 4 weeks after it, like most info I have read on the drug it says wait my doc told me something different as well a dont knwo what to belive. I have It has been 8 weeks this sunday that I have had the jag I have also been taking my antenatel vitamins after a got the all clear .Do I start trying agian I have had unprotected se a few times as yo will all; be aware this happens in the heat of the moment any advice would be great a have read some of the threads on here and it makes me glad to lknow taht am not alone

My doctor said that it is best to bleed from the drug and then have another normal cycle and then begin to try thereafter. I have no idea what to expect from my experience bc I do not have a period on my own, got pregnant on injectables, bled through progestorone supplements 3 days after my 14 DPO beta test (therefore I can only assume I was miscarrying on top of having a very low number). I took the M shot because my beta leval remained at 68-72 without budging for 7 days and she figured the tissue was stuck somewhere and not flushing out and probably in my tubes. Terrible waiting game but best to move on and enjoy the next couple of months without feeling sorry for myself or miserable. Trying to keep my head up though it sucks. I wish everyone the best of luck and am sorry we have had to do this but thank God, we did not have surgery I guess.

I had to have the shot after a mc. I waited 4 months because this shot is known to couse serious defects. I am currently pleased to announce I am pregnant with a healthy baby boy...

A quick update. I was given the methodextrate 2 times. The first time it did not work as my hcg continued to double. After the second round of shots on Sept 6th I have been bleeding alot ever since it is now Oct 3rd. My doctor also told me that the metho leaves your body within 48 hours of being administerd. I was nursing a baby so I could not nurse for 48 hours after both rounds of shots. I still feel tender in the area where my tubes are at last hcg test my nubers were 95 they went from 3060 to 1600 to 450 to 95. I have another hcg draw tomorrow. I am anxious to ttc again. I do however want my body to heal. I would like to have the hsg to check to see if there was any blockage in my tubes. I hope everyone who did conceive after an ectopic and the drug methodextrate that they went on to have healthy little babies. I just turned 40 so time is not on my side. However I havehad no troubles getting pregnant in the past. I have had 1 missed miscarriage however and a D&C and another D&C after my delivery of by 10 month old baby. I also had another miscarriage all in 1 month..many years ago. How is everyone else doing? Deed~how is your pregnancy progressing..very happy for you..and this gives me hope at ttc after this toxic drug. :)

Hi Ladies! Thanks for sharing your stories. Sometimes I feel like I am the only one out there going through this. I was given two doses of methotrexate back in July for a suspected ectopic pregnancy. My HCG numbers were going up VERY slowly. My doctors have told me to wait six months to conceive since I received the double dose. Does anyone know why I would have to wait six months? How come some doctors say to wait only one cycle while some other doctors say six months? I am so confused. The doctors also want me to have an HSG test to make sure my tubes are clear before trying again. What are your doctors saying to do about wait time? I would love to hear your answers. Thanks!

bdiaz - October 8th, 2007 11:55 AM

Hi everyone. I had metho injection on 6/16 after they diagnosed an incomplete miscarriage. I miscarried within 2 days of the injection, and had some bleeding thereafter. I then had a period in July and again in August, exactly 28 days apart. My doc said we can try for a baby again two weeks after the August period. This would have been close to 2.5 months after the injection. I got pregnant right the way and have an ultrasound tomorrow. I am a bit worried both about another miscarriage and problems with the fetus, but hope for the best. The doctors say all different things, but I've done a ton of reading and it is recommended in most articles that the woman wait one cycle after the injection to get pregnant again. I think most of this scary talk about the fetal damage really applies to people who take methotrexate long-term for other conditions (like cancer) and not to women who just had one shot. If you're on metho for a while, then you should wait 6 months to get pregnant, but if you had one shot only then I think one to two cycles should be enough.

Hi bdiaz! Good luck with everything tomorrow. I'm sure things will look great! Keep us posted. There are some other people on another methotrexate thread. I will try to get them to come over here so we can all help each other get through this! :)

Hello, I had a couple metho inj's 2 wks ago one in each hip for a suspected ectopic preg possibly caused by my IUD (intrauterine device) I was using a s birth control. I was terrified I have never experienced anything similar. I have been pregnany 3 times and have three wonderful boys all healthy. This has really been an eye opening experience to me. Now I realize tha this happens to alot of people and I am not alone. I am anxiously awaiting my period (for the first time in my life) just to confirm everything is back to normal with me. I go to the doctor tomorrow and hope to hear good news. I am also thinking about having another baby so I also want to ask her how long it's going to take to attempt to conceive again. Well I hope all goes well with everyone. Thanks for all the information posted it all helps.

Hi Paulina! Welcome to this thread. Thanks for sharing your story. Is an IUD a fertility device of some sort? Sorry about my lack of knowledge on this--my suspected ectopic was my very first pregnancy. I can only hope that I can have a successful pregnancy in the future. I think the worst part for me right now is the "not knowing" part. They knew this pregnancy was going to be inviable due to the HCG numbers--but they weren't sure if it was ectopic or actually in the uterus. It was way too early to tell--but they didn't want to risk tube rupture by waiting around to find out. Paulina, please share with us what your doctor says about wait time to ttc again. I had two rounds of the injection in each hip. One week apart. Ouch! I would love to know what advice your doctors give you. Have a good night everyone!

sorry if this is a dumb question, but i was wondering if there are ways you can tell that its ectopic?
