I will be able to give more info as far as the types/size/location and how fibroids I have. I have an appt in Sept to do an U/S with my regular Ob/Gyn and then I guess from there I will be sent to a specialist. |

Hello..My story is very similar. I also have been pregnant once and when I was about 15 weeks pregnant I discovered I had Fibroids via and Ultrasound. I never knew of or had any complications of Fibroids but I indeed had 2 big ones..one they said was about the size of a grapefruit. They were both on the outside of the Uterus. At 20 weeks pregnant I went into pre-term labor and had 2 beautiful identical baby boys whom didn't make it. It was just way too early for them. I am very eager to get pregnant again soon and through lots of research and deep thought and Drs. advice I had a Myomectomy 3 weeks ago. Since Fibroid was so large they couldn't do a bikini cut. The surgery was very successful and to my surprise after surgery I found out the biggest fibroid actually was about the size of a football and weighed over four lbs. I feel alot more comfortable and am very glad I got the surgery. I am healing well and looks like my scar won't be very noticable at all. I had an excellent Dr. |

Hi Goobers..I'm so sorry for your lost. I am happy for you that your surgery was sucessful. I bet when you found out about the fibroids the docs were suprised you didn't have any problems before. I knew my doctor was..I believe my fibroids are inside the uterus..I know for sure one is as big as a grapefruit and sits on top of my bladder. How long after your delivery did you wait to have the surgery? I am too hoping I will get a good doctor. I have an appointment in Sept to do an ultrasound with my gyn and I guess from there he will refer me to a specialist for treatment. I am very nervous about doing the surgery because it is soooo important for the doctor doing the surgery to stitch you up right. Goober I am glad you are doing well. Thank You for sharing your story <---lack of a better word.......*******. Please keep in touch and let me know how you are doing. |

Hi, ladies, well I too have a similar story to share. I went into pre-term labor at 22 weeks due to the fibroids (10 in total). Throughout my pregnancy, I went to the ER 3 times because of the persistent pain from the fibroids. They made my pregnancy (which should have been the happiest time for my husband & I) a nightmare from beginning to end. I gave birth March 12th to a baby boy Alexandro(when my water broke), who did not make it either. For weeks I was devastated...like I was in a nightmare I couldn't wake up from. My baby's due date was supposed to be July 7th (subsequently also my husband's birthday). |

Hi Pryncss1013, I am sorry to hear about your little baby boy. I too went to the ER 3 times for spotting and pain early on in the pregnancy but after about 16 weeks I was doing great and at 22/23 weeks I felt great..so great that I started feeling like this pregnancy was going to last, I was even bold enough to buy maternity clothes and then a few days later was when I went into pre-term labor. I am glad that your surgery was a success and they were able to remove ALL the fibroids! I too did not have any signs that I had fibroids not even heavy mens or bad cramps, but once I got pregnant there was no doubt about them being there and they grew at a rapid rate and the largest of them was located right above my bladder and very very close to the placenta. I am looking forward to doing my surgery but I am scared to death it will be my luck that I get a doctor who is unable to perform and I end up losing my uterus.. That right there would just kill me. But on the other hand I am trying to be very hopeful. Pryncss1013 and Goobers, thank you very much for sharing your story. I know it is not an easy thing to do and I really really appreciate it. I wish it were under happier circumstances that we were sharing but hopefully we will be able to share happier stories in the future. Please keep in touch and let me know how you are progressing. Best wishes to you all. |

Ladies - First off, my heart breaks to hear of such late late losses. My loss was at close to 15 weeks, and they thought it was because of fiborids. I had a myo in March. I am pregnant now (first try after Myo) but my first scan at 7 weeks showed a sack and a yolk sac but no fetal pole. So I probably am MCing now, I have another scan on Thursday to confirm demise. ANYWAY, this is not related to the myo, just a cruel twist of fate. Joker, a myo is a good decision in my opinion. The best way to get through it is a VERY positive attitude, try to sit up as early as the day of surgery, and stroll the hospital on the 2nd day. I was let out within 48 hours. GOOBERS_ Holy cow!! The size of football? My gosh!! My bioggest was a softball and I could not believe that had been inside me without my knowledge. Good luck to all. Make sure you have good insurance. The whole procedure, everything, costs about $25k. Oh, alos, with my scan last week, they found ANOTHER fibroid. A new one at 1 cm. So once you have the Myo you need to act FAST to get through TTC and a pregnancy before they come back! In my case I waited 3 months. Don't be afraid Joker, it's invasive YES, but it is routine and you'll be fine. |

Hi everyone. MelissaK sorry for your loss and for what you are going through with this pregnancy. I hope everything works out for you. I'm anxiously waiting for my appt in Sept to get an idea of when I will be doing the surgery. I have military insurance so hopefully I will have a surgeon who is excellent. Take Care and lets all keep intouch. |

Congrats LeilasMommy, I am so happy for you. My doctors are also unsure if the fibroids were the real reason why I went into pre-term labor. I very much think it was because there was a huge one right against the placenta so I think that was the cause right there. I will be able to find out more when I go to my appt in sept for an ultrasound. From there I will be referred to a specialist and discuss my treatment and schd a surgery. I definately have to get mine taken out because they are aggressive growers. I'm looking forward to getting pass the surgery and recovering and trying again. Thank you for sharing your story, it really does give me hope. |

Hi everyone. I had my doc appt and have to go back for a u/s with a specialist to get size/location/# of fibroids. My uterus is about the size of a 20-23 week pregnancy which means these fibroids have not shrunk! After my u/s I have to go back to my doc and go over the results. He says I will need to be put on drugs to help shrink fibroids and take iron supps to build my iron up so we can do surgery. I'm hoping to have it done in feb 07. Has anyone else taken the drugs to shrink fibroids prior to having surgery? How is everyone else doing? MelissaK, how are you doing? Please check in and let us know. |

Hi Joker! How are you doing? Did you start taking the drugs? I am in a very similar situation. I had a miscarriage in july (week 14 - see in the fibroids-thread...). Nobody knows, if it was because of the two fibroids (8 and 10 cm). However, they haven't shrunk since and I have even developped a third one.... Since I am still bleeding 9 weeks after the mc, my gyn recommended to take them all out. In order to shrink them, I will get "Lupron Depot" via shots starting tomorrow and then have the surgery in 4 to 6 month. I am a bit worried about being put in "artificial" menopause, how will my body react to the drugs? Since my insurance doesn't cover a laparoscopy ("modern" surgery with a camera, which would mean only a small cut and little recovery time), I will have a laparotomy to remove the fibroids. I am scared that this surgery will influence my chances of getting pregnant again...Also, it sounds like a long process.... How dou you feel about the surgery? Will you have it the traditional way or will you have a laparoscopy? I would like to hear more about your thought and fears.... Are you glad you're going to have the fibroids removed or do you have doubts too? I have read of so many women who had a baby despite having fibroids, that I sometimes think, I should just go ahead and try to get pregnant again without having the fibroids removed, and then let destiny decide....- To read MelissaK's story, who had the fibroids removed and got pregnant right away, was very comforting.. However, it is sad to read that you have complications again... How are you doing, Melissa? I pray that your pregnancy is progressing and the Baby is doing fine. Please, let me know, how you are all doing. |

My story is on the "Fibroids" thread, but I just wanted to say for those who havent read anything over there that I had a myomectomy after not being able to get pregnant for 10 years. I also had a T-shaped uterus, which was reshaped. 10 months after the surgery I got pregnant and by then I had 4 more fibroids.... I carried to term though, with minimal problems and had a c-section at 37.5 weeks. Due to the scar tissue from the uterine surgery my doc didnt want to risk vaginal delivery. Good luck to everyone. Joker, I cant wait to hear that you are pregnant after this surgery. I'll be thinking about you. |

How is everyone doing? I got my first shot of Lupron today... This is supposed to shrink my multipe fibroids within the next 3 months, so that I can have the myomectomy in january. Am a bit worried - not yet about the surgery but about the symptoms of menopause that are expected to occur within the next weeks... Anybody else in the same situation? I hope you are all doing fine. |
