I'm 4 weeks pregnant and I went to the Dr. last week. He did an ultrasound and found a sac and pole and movement. He drew blood and my progesterone level came back at 10.6 he started me on 200mg of progesterone suppositories at night and wants me to come back again this week to have another ultrasound and more blood work. I'm terrified. I tried to get prego for 2 years and finally got prego and now this low progesterone stuff is freaking me out. Are my chances pretty good of saving this baby?

Hi ladies! I hope everyone is doing well. It's been a while since I posted, but I just wanted to update with a positive progesterone story.

I am now a little over 21 weeks. We just found out we are having a little boy, and he is VERY active already! I'm finally starting to show. It is just so exciting!

Progesterone, I believe, is what saved this pregnancy. I had a m/c in October 2004 and got pregnant the following month. I spotted at 5 weeks and was put on 200mg prometrium suppositories when the dr found that my levels were at around 6.
At 6w4d I had a huge gush of red blood with extreme cramping. I thought for sure I was miscarrying. I went in the next day to find that I still had a healthy little baby with a beating heart!
I was supposed to be able to go off of the progesterone at 10 weeks, but each time I tried, I spotted. Finally at 13 weeks I was able to stop taking them. (What a relief)
I have had no problems since stopping the progesterone. From all perspectives I am now having a normal pregnancy.
I really do believe that progesterone helped me. So for those of you starting this, hang in there. It can work. Good luck.

Zee-I also got pregnant about 8 weeks after I misscarried and I am now 17 weeks pregnant, on progesterone and have had no spotting with this pregnancy. You have a great attitude and I totally agree with you-if the pregnancy is meant to fail then the progesterone will not stop that. I am sorry about your mom-hopefully this little angel inside your tummy was sent by her! Good luck and take care.

Thanks Becky for the words of encouragement. I had my first bloodwork done yesterday and today my HCG was at 7,758 and my progesterone was 20.1 . So far so good. I go for another bloodwork on Monday. Also I've switched doctors and found an ob/gyn who is attentive, returns phone calls, and most importantly is optimistic. Ladies if your doctor is a pessimist, get rid of 'em. For us this is personal and for them it's a job and many have become immune to the concerns of women particularly pregnant women. Let's continue to pray and be proactive. God bless.....

Wow, I am so glad I found this site. I'm not usually a person who participates in support groups but reading these posts has made me feel normal again.
I am in the sixth week of my 4th pregnancy. Preg 1 was mc'd at 12 weeks-blighted ovum. Preg 2 resulted in my 2 year old son. Preg 3 mc'd at 8 weeks--Dr put me on 200mg progesterone at 6 weeks. And I just got a call from my nurse telling me to start progesterone again. After picking up the prescription I did a web search and found this site. It prompted me to call the nurse again and review the levels of my previous pregnancies. Preg 1-no info; Preg 2-level of 20.0; Preg 3- level of 10 and this one has a level of 17.8. I had more blood drawn today and I'll get the results of that tomorrow. Because of my previous mc's I have so many conflicting emotions. I want to be happy, but I'm scared to get too attached. Finding out I have to take this supplement again scares me, but I feel better knowing my previous mc was a significantly lower number than this pregnancy. My thoughts are with all of you and I hope we will all be able to bring babies to term.

Renee - April 12th, 2005 10:32 AM

Christine,
Hi Congratulations! I just wanted to let you know when I had my progesterone tested this time it was a 15.6 and went up to a 17.8. I was on suppositories 2x daily, and they increased it at 10 weeks to 3x a day and took me off at 12 weeks, I am now 16 weeks and doing well. I have a fetal heart doppler I bought on ebay and it works wonderful, keeps my anxiety at a controllable level. I found out last pregnancy at 6 month visit that my son had no heartbeat, I was induced the next morning. My OB believes it was a poor implantation of the placenta or it was a silent placental abruption since he grew perfectly until his 19th week. He stopped growing there after and was born still at 23 weeks. I too have the haunting past shadowing this pregnancy, but it is a whole new pregnancy and I chose believe that I can't possibly be that unlucky again! Im sure we all have that feeling!
So I wish you and everyone on this oard the best of luck, please keep us updated, it is nice to see some postive outcomes, but nice to get and give sympathy to those of us with not so good outcomes. Either way, Good luck to all.
~Renee

I found out a couple of weeks ago that I'm pregnant. I had 2 miscarriages last year. Dr has put me on progesterone. We had an ultra sound last week and could see the sac, but they think baby was to small to see. Dr said maybe I'm not as far along as I think. I'm not sure what to think about that. I know when my last perior was, so now i'm worried that the baby maybe just isn't growing like it should. I thought I should have been 6 weeks at the u/s, sac measured 8-9mm. Does anyone know if that is normal?

Becky - April 12th, 2005 6:59 PM

Heather-I don't know about the measurements of the sac but I do know that they couldn't see my baby until I was 7 weeks old. Every baby is different and the Ultra Sound tech told me some people's baby's can be seen as early as 5 weeks and some not until 8-it just depends on the position of the sac. Hopeully this helps-just hang in there! Good Luck

Hi everyone! I 'm currently 7 weeks preg. and at 4 weeks pregnant I went to the Dr. He did an ultrasound and found a sac and pole and movement. He drew blood and my progesterone level came back at 10.3 which he said was too low, he started me on 200mg of progesterone suppositories at night and I went back last week for another ultrasound. The baby doubled in size in 1 week and we saw the heart beat. I was so happy I cried. Then I was sure he would send me over to the lab to draw my blood to check my prog. levels to see if it was up, but he didnt. I asked him why and he said that he didn't need that, he said because my baby doubled in size in 1 week that there was nothing wrong and I didn't need to check my prog. levels anymore. He told me to finish taking the suppositories I had left (about 2 weeks worth) and then stop them. I don't know, but I just feel skeptical about that. Why wouldn't he want to verify that my prog. levels were higher? And he never once drew a HCG level. He told me it was unecessary because he was doing the ultrasounds. What do yall think??

Heather - April 13th, 2005 9:33 AM

Becky- Thanks for the encouragement. I have an ultrasound today, so hopefully we'll see the baby today. Tricia- I'm also 7 weeks tomorrow. I've been on oral progesterone for a week now. I've never had my levels checked. I was actually planning on asking the Dr about that today. They did check my Hcg levels and they did rise like they were suppose to last week. When I had my ultrasound last week they said the baby was measuring a week or 2 younger than what I thought I should be. Hopefully I get some answers today. I'm not sure what to suggest to you about your Dr. I'm pretty new to having problems having babies. I have to healthy girls 10 and 8. The 2 miscarriages last year were such a surprise to me since I had never had any problems. I saw my current Dr when I had the 2nd miscarriage and she just said next time we'll try progesterone. She never tested me to see if that was maybe the problem. Well, good luck and let me know how things are going.

Christine - April 14th, 2005 4:20 PM

Hello again. Renee--thanks for your encouragement. Here's the update: I've been on the oral supplements for three days now, but I had bloodwork done yesterday and my progestrone level is now at 37! I'm still taking it, but I have an Ultrasound next week and I hope everything looks good. My husband was cheering me on this morning as I got sick--this is my first bout of morning sickness with this pregnancy, but it happened much earlier with the prior three so we were both relieved. How our lives have changed--now morning sickness is almost a pleasant experience. Anyway, I wish everyone a happy, healthy pregnancy.

Dawn K - April 14th, 2005 5:17 PM

I am 9 weeks 5 days and I am on more progesterone than you can imagine. My levels range between 90-110. I have blood work and u/s done every other day due to the fact that I am an IVF patient. I have a 7 year old son and have had 5 m/c prior to this pregnancy. This one started with twins, I lost one of them about 3 weeks ago. Do not be afraid of progesterone. It is a natural hormone your body makes. It can only help your baby. I take 600 mg. suppositories 2 times a day, I take an shot of progesterone in oil (2 1/2 cc) every night, and a prometrium pill each night. Trust me, if anyone can take that much progesterone, you could take one suppository per day. You need to keep your levels between 30-40 for the first 8 weeks or so. If they are not that high, get on the medicine!! I have never been dizzy or had any effect from all of the meds. Good luck to all of you!

Becky - April 14th, 2005 8:41 PM

Hello everyone-just an update on my pregnancy. I have been on progesterone since ovulation and am now 18 weeks!!! I found out I am having a girl and the ultrasound looks great. I got a video of the ultrasound and it is wonderful to see her doing summersaults, sucking her thumb-even moving her tongue around. All I can say is thank god for progesterone. Without it I would not have my other two children nor this beautiful babe. I have been able to feel her kick for the last week and a half now and talk about wonderful-a feeling that will never get old. Of course until she is born I will still be a nervous wreck but everything looks good and it is always in God's hands anyways so I am gonna try and enjoy this pregnancy now. For all of you just starting out-hang in there and keep taking that progesterone and don't worry about birth defects. My two other children were concieved and matured with this hormone and they are doing great. Take care and god bless us all.
