Subchorionic Hematoma

I am 13.5 weeks pregnant with my 8th pregnancy. I have three children and have miscarried 5. this time I went to a fertility specialis that worked with my issues to help me pregnant on the first cycle of working with him. I give myself heparin injections and use progesterone. Last week I started spotting and went in for an U/S to discover that I have a subchorionic hematoma. It is small but still concerning. Now, I am having some sort of reaction to heparin with rashes and welts in the areas of the injections. I went online to see if I could find anything about heparing and skin rashes, but instead found research articles on how women that are pregnant and taking heparin are more inclined to develop hematomas. I called my doctor and they are checking with a specialist and will getting back to me today. the baby is fine and my 11 week screen went well with no indication of downs or other issues that the test can predict. I am very concerned at this point, but have read many articles with research data indicating that since my hemotoma developed at 12 weeks and is only 2 cm that my pronosis is good, but my histroy suggests otherwise. Needless to say, I am very concerned and anxious. I keep wondering if I should get one of those fetal hb monitors to use at home, but what would I do if one day I couldn't find the hb...I would really freak so I talk myself out of it. |

I was diagnosed with a hematoma when I was 6 weeks pregnant. I was in the store and had a gush of blood, I was so scared since 4 years ago I lost our son in my 17th week. So I thought I was miscarrying again. When I got to the ER they were trying to get me to relax, they checked to make sure my cervix was closed and it was and then took me in for an Ultra Sound. They came in and told me the baby was fine and they even found a heart beat. You could imagine my husband and our relief. I was put on bed rest for 4 days and had to follow up with the doc that Monday. I went in things were good he took me off bed rest just told me to take it easy no vigerious house cleaning or exercising. I am now 12 weeks pregnant and feeling pretty good. I still say my prayers everyday that God will keep our baby safe and healthy! |

I just had my 6wk ultrasound to find out that I have a 19X15mm hematoma. This sounds very big to me. I'm very nervous of the outcome right now. I'm not on bed rest but just told to rest. I'm on progesterone twice a day. I hope this helps. Does anyone know anything about the sizes and does this sound really big for 6 weeks pregnant? |

I am 8.5 weeks pregnant, I woke up this morning covered in blood and thought I was miscarrying. We went to the hospital and the dr. wrote on the diagnosis of the ultrasound, Subchorionic bleed 3 cm...blood in endocervical canal. I have read the replies here, and feel a little better, but could use all of the reassuring I could get. If anyone has any more info on the second part (blood in endocervical canal) please forward? Thanks...this is our first baby and I am scared! |

I had a hematoma in my last pregnancy. It was not too big and I did not have any visable bleeding and it reabsorbed within about a month and I now have a healthy, happy 3 month old little boy. Please try to take it easy and stay off your feet, during my research I read that will help it heal and reduce bleeding. Good luck, I hope you have an outcome as I did. Congrats on your pregnancy. |

Hi. I am 11 weeks pregnant with my 12th pregnancy. I have had 8 losses and 3 healthy children. I have always miscarried before the 10th week. I began having brown spotting at the 10th week. It went away for 5 days and then came back rather lightly for 2 more days. Then it quit and I haven't bled for several days. I had an ultrasound at 11 weeks and the baby was healthy and jumping around like a little mexican bean. I rented a doppler machine from babybeats.com and once a day I listen to the heart beat. At the 11 week ultrasound, the tech found 2 large hematomas. The doc said that they are "very extensive". I didn't think to ask him for exact measurements. He put me on bedrest which is very trying for our family. But I lie here none the less because I want to do all I can. I guess we're going to do another scan in a few weeks to see if the hematomas are shrinking. Meanwhile, I check for a heartbeat once a day which is the highlight of my day! This little butterbean is hanging in there tight! I guess the good news is that I never had red blood, never heavy, and that it has stopped altogether for the last 4 days... The waiting game is going to drive me insane. The only thing I find discouraging about this board is that so many people never come back and report what happened in their pregnancy. Do you assume that only the people with positive outcomes come back and update? |

Last year I had was diagnosed with a moderately sized hematoma. I was terrified. I searched all the message boards and read all I could about the problem. I saw so much negative stuff on the web that I was sure my pregnancy was doomed. Even my doctor was not super positive (but looking back I think he probably aired on the cautious side for liability reasons). I bled several times from weeks 7 thru 15. Finally, the bleeding ceased. At my 20 week ultrasound they saw no hematoma. At that point, the technician said very nonchalantly that they usually do reabsorb. And six hours before my due date, I gave birth to a healthy baby boy. I made a promise to myself that I would come back and write about my experience to encourage all those out there with the same diagnosis. Hang in there! |

I started bleeding at five weeks. I'm on my 15th week now and I still bleed for half a day and spot old blood for a week or so then bleed fresh blood again. My latest sonogram shows a retro-decidual hematoma/bleeding and I have been on antifibrinolytics, progesterone, and Metformin (I have PCOS, and Type 2 Diabetes). When I don't feel the tiny flutters, I get paranoid, that maybe the baby is no longer there, especially when my own mother would comment that my tummy seemed to be not bulging as it should. But every time I go for an ultrasonography, the results would reveal a baby with strong heartbeat and activity. My next u/s is tomorrow and I hope to see a little hand waving at me. :) I'm just trusting God on this. May the Lord's comfort and peace be with you all. |

I am 12 weeks pregnant and have a small SCH. I was diagnosed with this at 7 1/2 weeks but had no bleeding until 11 weeks. All of a sudden I started gushing out red blood like a full period. It wouldn't stop and went to the ER. The baby was fine. Since then, I have continuous spotting and episodes of heavier bleeding - always bright red and sometimes with clots. Had ultrasound yesterday and baby is still fine. It's hard to find a dr. that really takes it seriously. This is my baby and I won't give up. I'm on bedrest now - even though the dr. said it wouldn't help- and I pray that this baby lives. It's amazing how some doctors just really don't care. I have to fight for every ultrasound. Good luck to all moms-to-be with this problem. |

hi all, i just lost my baby at 21 weeks 3 days last June 1st. so yes, i'm still heartbroken, can't sleep, can't cry hard enough... my son was born still. I had my last scan at 20wks 6 days and he was ok, but i was diagnosed with very low amniotic fluid at 14wks which did not improve even if i drank quarts and quarts of water everyday, i was hooked on IVFs, was on total bedrest for five four months. in that same scan, the sonologist said the SCH is very minimal, but i still bleed until the day i delivered... i was told it's the oligohydramnios that too my baby, i don't know, surely the SCH did its own damage... now, it's very hard to adjust... to accept that i am no longer carrying him.. ;-( ;-( |

What a group of stong women! Thanks for all the encouragement. I'm in my 18th week. I bled red blood for 24 hours in my tenth week, spotted brown blood until my 15th week and I've not since bled. My hematoma is STILL 5.1 x 5.2 cm. It's not changed one bit. Has this happened to anyone else? I go back for another ultrasound on the 15th of July. I feel her flutters all day long but an 8 week stint with bed rest is killing me! I have a needy 3 and 2 year old and my house is a wreck!! Any suggestions for sanity?! |

Hi All, |

I am expecting baby #5 on jan 30/10. I was diagnosed with a subchorionic hemorrage at 8 weeks, at the time it was 3.2 cms. I just had another ultrasound at 11 weeks and it is now 4 cms. I am a very small person, only 5 foot 2, and right now 101 lbs-I was 93 went I got pregnant, so 4cms is considered huge for my size. I haven't had any bleeding at all, but I've had 2 preemies, and am very concerned about this one being early too cause the hemorrage is getting bigger-not going away! I don't have an appointment with my OB until next week...does this usually end up in a premature birth if it doesn't go away? |

I have not read A LOT!! on the internet on this. Personally, I don't think that anybody really knows. There seems to be many posisbilities about how this can form and everybody seems to react differently. Eg, I have had light bleeding for 3 weeks now, you saying that you haven't had any bleeding etc. I was so worried when I first found out, however I remember reading something (can't remember if it was here or another site) and they said that they felt they missed out on their whole pregnancy because they spent the whole time worrying about a mc and loosing the baby etc. That was ... (who am i kidding!)... that is me. |
