What does it mean to have only 2 vains in the umbilical Cord and not 3. Is it dangerous? Will the baby be ok. all of my other tests are fine.

i found out i had a 2 vessel cord when i was 19 weeks preg' but the dr's acted like they didnt know what it meant so i didnt find any thing out until i had my baby 4 weeks ago. its not any thing major to worry about, it means your baby may be slightly smaller than average and there is an increased chance of kidney problems so when your baby is born the dr's will do an ultra sound on his/her kidneys and also on their brain but around 95%of babies turn out fine and they mainly do it as a precaution. im sure every thing will turn out fine

I also am carrying a baby with a Single Umbilical Artery (2 Vessel Cord). So far there are no other indications that any problems exist. My Quad Screen came back negative which my Dr. said was very reassuring. The first ultrasound showed normal growth and organ development. I think this is most often the case. If your Ultrasound didn't indicate any other problems or concerns, you are probably o.k. They will just closely monitor growth of the baby during the pregnancy. Don't stress -- it won't accomplish anything.
