I had a 12 wk u/s last week and the Dr. saw a cyst on my babies head and referred to it as cystic hygroma. I had two losses last year and cannot fatham going through that again. The Dr. suggested a CVS and waiting for results. Could possibly be chromosome, Turners or go away....anyone run into this? I am just sick...

I unfortuanatley found at 17 wks that our baby had a cystic hygroma and a level 2 ultrasound showed fetal hydrops. in this situation the baby could never live even a semi decent life if the baby survived to birth at all. howver a baby that is diagnosed with just a cystic hygroma can live. there are many support groups for this condition and some even hold events for children with this to get together and meet friends. it comes to a personal decision on how well you believe you can handle it. i wrote to many people on the support group sites to hear how their lives are and how the baby is. they are very helpful and open and are happy to share. i hope that this works out for you for the best. explore your options and never give up hope.

Hi Mari, My last pregnancy nov 2005 my daughter had Turners syndrome . She also had cystic hygroma, fetal hydrops and heart failure. She passed at 18 weeks 5 days, but she was a very extreme case and there are children that live with Turners. I would recommend doing some research like sarah baby11 suggested. Lots of prayers for you and your baby.

Hi mari
I'm sorry to hear that your baby might be sick. but i did want to tell you that my mom's best friend who is 45 yrs old was born with turner syndrome and did have some medical issues when she was an infant - needed surgeries and growth issues. she's very short and has a few signs of drawfism but she's leading a very normal life! went to college and got a degree and is married. so children (like tara said) can survive and grow to be healthy adults with turner. of course, they didn't have these u/s like they do nowadays to let a mom know all this scary stuff. take care mari - when is your next u/s? i'm having some issues with my baby too. i'm almost 30 wks and it's been 10 wks since i found out my baby could have problems. just take care of yourself! that's the important thing! heather
