I am 32 years old. My husband and I just found out yesterday at my 18 week ultrasound that our baby has an echogenic focus on the left ventricle of his heart. We were told by my doctor in a very sympathetic voice that it was the only marker, and of a list of markers, it was near the bottom in importance, but still could be a sign for Downs syndrome. We had opted out of the earlier screening tests due to the error ratio, and not wanting to worry over a false positive, and now we are facing 22 more weeks of worrying that he may have Downs. We are waiting for an appointment to see a fetal med. Dr. to get a fetal echocardiogram. Does anyone know what more that could tell, that the ultrasound couldn't? Anyone else going through the same? Any advice or similair stories would be greatly appreciated.
