good evening all. my name is julie, i'm 30 years old, and my husband and i are expecting our first child, a boy we've named Ryan. his due date is december 10th.
this past sunday i started having some slight cramping, after a very uneventful 22 weeks. when they were still present on monday, i went to the doctor. they did an exam and admitted me to the hospital immediately. i have been on bed rest since. they said i have an incompetent cervix, was dilated 2 cm, the membrane was bulging into the birth canal, and i am only allowed to leave the hospital bed to use the restroom, which is 2 feet away, so i'm spending approximately 23 1/2 hrs a day in bed.
i have never been so terrified in my life.
they say it's too late to do a cerclage because the procedure could rupture my bulging membrane. i see on here that some other women were put on progesterone shots when in this situation, but those shots haven't been mentioned to me by any doctors. anyone know why it wouldn't?
i'm currently 23 weeks and 3 days and so so scared that my son is going to be born too early and not survive.
in two days i'm having an ultrasound to check the thickness of my cervix and his estimated weight. that same day and the day after i will be given steroid shots to speed up the development of Ryan's lungs.
i've been told that i could deliver tonight or two months from now, but the only guarantees are that i won't be able to carry him to full term, and that i will be in this bed until i deliver, whenever that may be. i just feel so helpless and an overwhelming lack of control.
i would love to hear from anyone that has been in this situation, or is currently going through it.
