Miscarriage Or Just A Heavy Menstrual Flow??????

I was on my 40th day after my last mentrual period in late june. I thought I was pregnant because of symptoms like sore breasts, abdominal cramps and delayed AF. I had hpt and showed a faint 2nd blue line within the 3 minutes period. I took that as positive. I made an appointment with my doctor but before I made it to her clinic that day bleeding occured. So I considered it as AF and postponed the meeting with the doc. I had not experienced anything extra painful but mild cramps. The worst was i had a very heavy flow on the first night. It was terrible that I had to wear not just pads but diapers. The following morning I had less flow like I am on my 3rd day of usual period. I am on my 3rd day of bleeding now and it's like bleeding will be over tomorrow or a day after. I dont feel anything painful at all. Was it a miscarriage or just an odd menstrual flow? Do I need to undergo D & C?

If I may add, my breasts are still a little sore. Soreness had receded though compared to how painful they were prior to the bleeding. I am really confused. I was told that a miscarriage not later than the 7th week after the last menstrual period does not need D & C if no severe cramping and bleeding is experienced. My questions are: Is this miscarriage? Do I need D & C? Why does the soreness in the breasts still here and did not completely disappear? Is it because the HCG hormone still present? Please share your ideas or experiences. Thank you!
