Subchorionic Bleeding

Hello-- I am on Clomid therapy and not due to start my AF until this weekend (day 24 today)--on Friday evening (day 20 ) I had a scant amount of dk brown when I wiped and then again on saturday and sunday--though not too much. On monday I worked and the flow increased a little, had sex monday night and then today (Tuesday) I have had flow all day though not like my normal period--did not even fill one pad and mostly was red during wiping. My period NEVER comes early---I had my tubal reversed on Oct 30 and my OB/GYN suggested clomid therapy to speed up my "getting pregnant" process as I am 40. I have been teary all day thinking I am having my period but now after reading your notes am wondering if anyone has experienced anythign similar? Should I take a pg test as tomorrow I was going to restart my clomid since that would be day 3 if my cycyle is indeed here--any advice? If I had gotten pregnant would it still be too soon for a test to tell me? Please advise ? |

If anyone reads this and is going through this, could you tell me if you had spotting after the bleed that varied in color and amount? I went from almost nothing to very dark blood that is filling a panty liner. And my activity doesn't seem to affect it. HELP!! |

Laura..thanks. Did you still have cramping though? Everyone on here says as long as you aren't in pain, it's OK.....but I do still cramp, pretty bad at times. |

Taunya, I had some cramping. When was the last time you were checked by the Dr.? Did they do u/s? I believe this is your bodies way of getting rid of the old blood. Let me know how you make out. Laura |

Actually laura, just saw the OB today. They don't seem to be worried about the cramping or the bleeding. I'm having an u/s Friday, because I requested it for my peace of mind. Sometimes, I wonder if this is all taken too lightly, or am I just taking it too seriously, when it's really fine? Thanks |

I went to the hospital at 7 weeks with terrible cramps, and was given an ultrasound. It showed that there was a mass of blood surrounding the bub, it's heartbeat was too fast and the sac was too small. The doctor told me I was having a threatened miscarraige, and to go home, that there was nothing we could do about it. Directly after getting home, the bleeding started and didn't stop for 3 days, it was very heavy. I went back a few days later with pain again to have another ultrasound. This one showed that the blood around the baby was still there, but the heartbeat and sac-size were perfectly normal, not to worry. Since then I have had constant bleeding, from heavy red to brown light spotting, usually at its worst if I have a full bladder. Yesterday I went in for my 12 week ultrasound, and was diagnosed with a Subchorionic Hematoma. It is located under bub, and directly next to my bladder. I was told that when my bladder fills, it pushes the hematoma and that is what causes the bleeding. So as long as I empty my bladder very regularly I shouldn't hopefully have too many more problems. So at least I know why I am bleeding, so it's a bit of a relief, but still not sure why I have the hematoma, my hubby and I think it may be caused by the fact that I have Endometriosis(which is chocolate cysts), which I was diagnosed with when I was 16, 13 years ago. I have had one perfectly wonderful little boy who will turn 2 next month, he was born with a club foot, but the children's hospital can work wonders and you would never know he had it now. So now I just have to wait and see what happens in my 18wk scan. Bedrest is impossible for me as my little man is very energetic, and I find if I lay down while I am bleeding it often gets worse. I am just going to try and get through everything as best I can and keep doing what my body is used to. We are very hopeful that this bub will turn out fine, but as I was told I would never have any children due to the Endometriosis, I live each moment to the full with the one I was lucky enough to have. I hope this has been useful, and good luck to everyone! |

It is nothing to worry about. The ultrasound will tell what is going on. If you start to bleed excessively then go to the ER. The chorion is the membrane that surrounds the embryo and other membranes. Also from this membrane is where the chorionic villi emerge (finger like projections) and invade the endometrium (inner lining of the uterus). This is how you give nutrients to your baby. When this happens, as the chorionic villi envade, you can have some bleeding. It is normal, there are many changes going on in your body right now, especially the first 8 wks or so with the fetus which is the most critical developmental period. So, make sure you take care of yourself, take your vitamens and get the ultrasound done. Sub means below, don't worry. |

I had this w. my pregnancy last year. I never stopped bleeding until the end of the 2nd trimester. My OB wasn't very hopeful. I also had tons of u/s they all showed the subchorionic hematoma (blood clot) in the uterus. I was scared and I've never prayed so much in my life. I read the mortality rate is high if you have the actual clot like I had. Well, miracle because our baby survived and she was born 8 lbs 2 oz. However during labor her cord prolapsed (the cord came out of the uterus and was birthed) and she was dying so the dr. had to do an emergency c-section. I had no anesthesia but I didn't care, I just wanted my DD to live. By the grace of God she lived. Anyway, hang in there.....God bless. My DD is a very healthy 5 month old now. During my pregnancy my dr. kept telling me things are not good, etc but I held on so be encouraged. |

I think I may be one of the only men to post on here, but since my wife is not much into computers/forums or the like, it's ok I guess. I just wanted to say thank you to all of you for the peace of mind that you gave my wife and I during our difficult pregnancy. I remember the night after we found out that my wife had a bleed, I found this site and read all the comments for at least an hour. I had my wife come in and read them with me, and we both had a wonderful feeling of calm come over us just knowing that others were having similar issues and that there was hope. For those of you going through it now, I know what a struggle it can be and the emotional drain that it can be with feelings of hopelessness and such. If you haven't yet, I encourage you to read through the comments on this site as they helped us a lot. |

Hello. I am wondering if anyone can help. I am just 6 weeks pregnant and began bleeding last saturday (about the amount when menstruating) went to ER and they said it was too early to see anything. I followed up with my ob/gyn this friday, who told me that I have a large subchorionic bleed (about 1 1/2 times the size of ges. sac). He saw the gestational sac with a yolk sac, but said that it was irregularly shaped. I see the doc again in 10 days for another sonogram, and to check for a heartbeat. He also said that I have a 50/50 chance of miscarrying. I don't have much bleeding now, but am wondering if anyone else knows about an irregular shaped gestational sac and having a subchorionic bleed. I am very nervous. Any advise would be much appreciated for this new to pregnancy woman. |

Hey Brooke. Congrats on being newly pregnant. I wish your first pregnancy wasn't starting out stressful for you, but there is alot of positive stories when it comes to subchorionic bleeds or SCH's. I am about 8 weeks pregnant and was also diagnosed with one. I had a couple of heavy bleeding episodes followed by 4 weeks straight of spotting, mostly brown. It's nerve wracking, but babe so far is still hanging in there. I'm afraid I don't have much knowledge on the irregular shaped gest sac, but I know that my doctor put me on progesterone supplements to "relax" the uterus and also told me to stay off my feet as much as possible. Which isn't easy with a 17 month toddler. The idea is to not get the bleed to get any bigger and comprimise the placenta, or something like that. I would ask your doc about bed rest, esp since your SCH sounds a little larger. I'm no expert, but from what I've read out there, they're more common than we know and most women with a little extra TLC go onto have healthy pregnancies. Best of luck! |

I am just about 8 weeks. At the seven week mark I had an internal exam due to bleeding and saw a heart beating strongly, but the rest of this week I seem to be finding blood every time I wipe. It's only light pink and brown, and not heavy, and it's not really painful. I keep going to the ER for it (I'm so scared!) and they keep telling me-nothing! My husband has a lot more faith than me at the moment, I'm too tired and depressed, and so scared to go to the washroom! Every time I see that pink and brown I want to burst into tears. Husband tells me I'm worrying over nothing, that it's in God's hands and that no child of my husband's is going to end up in a miscarriage. My cousin says it might be a subchorionic bleed...I just wish someone would tell me what's happening, and if my baby is still alive. |
