I am dealing with a thyroid issue as well. I was diagnosed with an enlarged thyroid (6 months postpartum) that they diagnosed as hypothyroidism – this was all diagnosed by accident. I went to the doctor for a cold and he came back and said I have a thyroid problem. The first doctor that diagnosed me was not my gp because she was out on medical leave. So I asked if I could hold out until my gp returns before making any decisions on medication because this doctor wanted me to start taking thyroid replacement hormones. My gp has returned from medical leave and I did go see her last week. She agreed with the first doctor that I do have hypothyroidism and likely Hashimoto’s disease. I specifically asked if this could be related to pregnancy as I had seen that pregnancy can bring on temporary thyroid issues. This was dismissed as 5% of women get Hashimoto’s disease after pregnancy, but this does not hold true with what I have researched. |
