Poss TMI Clotting Ques.....

Sorry about the gross details.....My baby is 9 weeks old and for the last week i started light spotting and a little crampy but nothing too bad. Today I started bleeding a little more heavily and cramps since last night so my figured my first period since giving birth - then I felt something coming out and on the pad was a largish (around 1 - 2 inches) clot that was a whitey colour, kinda squishy in consistency but not stretchy or anything like cervical fluid it was more firm than that.....
Sorry for the graphic detail but i am wondering if this is normal and what it could be? I thought that if it was a blood clot it would be red not white? Strangely enough my cramping has now subsided since i passed this strange "clot"
Any ideas or experience?! First time mum so no idea what's supposed to be happening at this stage!
