I just had my 4th mc, and this time I had a D&C because I am going to have the tissue tested. I've already had all other tests done and nothing was found except heterozygous MTHFR, which the doctors say is no biggie - just take extra folic acid. This last pregnancy I was on progesterone, baby aspirin, and folgard, and of course vitamins. But that didn't work. Again, the baby stopped growing at 6 weeks even after we saw the heart beat. I will be seeing another specialist soon and hopefully we can work out a plan after I get my D&C results. I'm just wondering if anyone can offer an insight or experiences. I've read about killer cells, which they don't do much of here in the U.S., and have heard maybe lovenox or heparin can help, even though my blood is "normal." I've also read about PGD (pre-implantation genetic diagnosis) IVF, and even though me and my husband have been testing for chromosome issues, we are both normal, but maybe my egg and his sperm are not coming together normally? I know the D&C results will tell us that. Has anyone had any of these treatments? I'm desperate for answers...

I'd definitely see a doctor who would be willing to put you on a "prophylactic dose" of lovenox (mine was 40mg once daily) and maybe ask about steroids (predisone) which can help in the killer cell area , somewhat. It suppresses your immune system. Tell me, do you get sick easily or do you never get sick? If you rarely ever get sick it could be that you have a super immune system that might be playing a part in this and prednisone might be able to help. I don't know details and can't even begin to explain it's just some docs might be willing to try at this point. Obviously something is wrong that can't be ignored. Has your husband had a semen analysis? I see you said you've both had the chormosomal work up too so that is good. I'd definitely try the meds before going to IVF though. I honestly don't think the doctors know about everything that is out there and who knows if your body doesn't have something going on in the blood where it is fine most of the time but when you are pregnant it has a tendency to clot or something? Who knows, I'd just try anything. Good luck...don't give up!

hey im going through the same thing, i had my dnc on the 1st for my 4th mc at 10 weeks, ive done all the treatment too i am no longer seeing a regular ob im seeing a specialist they didnt want to test the tissue but they already ruled out genetic defects and i guess thats why theyd test? idk im dow to it only being an immune disorder so im just getting the blood work for that and if its not that there are no answers left for me. i dont think ivf will help for us bc we dont have trouble getting pregnant even though i know they can choose a healthy embryo to implant if our bodies are the problem then itll just happen again. idk i am remaining hopeful, i was told by a specialist that the chance after 4 mc to have a healthy baby is 70% thats still very high after 1 mc its 80 % i know its not good to look at statistics all the time but its helping me 3 or more mc wo a live birth is a 13% chance of happen 3 or more after a live birth is 6% maybe we can help each other get through this extremely hard time, i know i need someone, and i can definately empathize with what your are going through.

Hi Kre87 - I'm so sorry to hear of your recent loss. It's just absolute shit and there's no other way of putting it. I hate when people tell me, "Everything is going to be fine." I just want to tell them to shut up!
I'm surprised they did not test the tissue with your last d&c. I finally had my last one tested because I just needed some answers. They found triploidy which is a genetic defect. My dh and I have had every test possible done and everything is fine with us. The new reproductive endocrinologist I'm seeing believes my mc's are from an underlying genetic issue with either the sperm or egg. For some reason, my eggs or his sperm are not genetically right or of poor quality. So, he recommended PDG IVF, but of course my insurance doesn't cover it so we're looking at 15,000! I just don't know what to do. I never thought this would happen because I'm only 32 now and very healthy.
Keep me posted on your tests.

Hi Daynarella,

I had 4 miscarriages over 4 years. After the second m/c I was tested for hetero MTHFR. I started on baby aspirin, Folic Acid, and daily shots of Heparin... but I still miscarried twice on this regimen. This all happened between the ages of 29 - 32... so I really didn't think it was an egg quality issue. I had a small fibroid (about 2 cm) on my uterus, but I had seen 5 different doctors who were fertility specialists and fetal-maternal high risk specialists who said the fibroid was not an issue. I guess 40% of women over 30 have them. I even did a hystosalpinogram as well as all the ultrasounds that showed the fibroid would not be a problem on a text book level. After my 4th miscarriage, my doctor did a hysteroscopy and found the fibroid might be distorting the shape of the uterus a little. This is something they can't see via ultrasound. So I had it removed... Eventhough, all the other doctors including my OB, still believe the fibroid was not causing the miscarriages. When I got pregnant for the 5th time, I was on Lovenox, Baby Aspirin, Folic Acid, and Prednisone (a low dose steriod that supresses the immune system, which has been proven to help immune/NKC issues in Europe). I don't know what actually did the trick - if it was the meds or the fibroid being gone - but I finally had a baby girl. I would determine if you have anything that could be interfering - like a polyp, cyst, fibroid, etc - and if not, ask your doctor about the Prednisone and Lovenox. My OB genuinely believes it was the Lovenox that helped me carry to term. He said it has worked for many of his patients.

I hope you and Kre87 can provide some support for each other, it's great to have a friend who understands. Stefkay and I met on this board while going through our miscarriages and we still keep in touch!

hey jade was the baby girl your first child? I am working on my 2nd if I didn't already say even though I've had more than two babies, I am going for testing next week and I'm upset bc my specialist gave me to a resident in the hospital I have no clue why bc she really has no idea what she's doing, so my question is what tests should I ask them to run I know they are doing a thyroid test and some other immune system tests. I am going to ask for them to check for gluten intolerance even though I knw the tests aren't 100 percent, but my brother has celiac diseasew and I just recently learned it can be a cause of habitual m/c,I feel like I am rambling but I just want to know what's wrong also they are trying to force birthcontrol on me I don't want it I have perfect 28 day cycles I don't have trouble getting pregnant and if they tests find something I want to be pregnant! Ugh I am just fed up with this whole process

Yes, my baby girl is my first live birth.

I know this sounds anecdotal, but my old boss and his wife struggled with miscarriages as well. I think they had 3 and they did IVF. She tested high for Natural Killer Cells so her last pregnancy via IVF they had her on this invasive blood transfusion treatment called IVIG. She carried that baby to term. While she was breastfeeding, she learned her baby was allergic to gluten (her husband is) so she cut gluten out of her diet. They got pregnant on their own and she carried their second baby with no problems at all. They believe she might have a gluten intolerance as well and it was making her immune system hyperactive (your body responding to the allergy). I think immune issues and blood clotting issues commonly develop later in life, like in your 30's. If you had your previous children when you were younger, you could have developed an intolerance. I was a vegetarian and I wasn't getting pregnant so I did 2 IUI's and 2 IVF's. The last IVF resulted in pg, but I miscarried. I went to an acupuncturist who said I was allergice to soy (which was all I ate!). I cut soy out of my diet and I got pregnant 4 times on my own after! I understand your fustrations. It took my 5 years to have my first child - 2 IUI's, 2 IVF, 4 D&C's, 4 Miscarriages, a hystosalpinogram, a hysteroscopy, a myomectamy - But it was all worth it in the end. You just can't give up.
