How Did Your Miscarriage Start?

I miscarried at 6 1/2 weeks with my third child and it started out as brown spotting. By the end of the evening I was bleed like af and then went on to pass clots. I did spot brown with my lc and that was due to a yeast infection. So I don't think it always means miscarriage. |

i'm 8 weeks pg - had brown spotting over the weekend and feared the worst as my 2nd m/c started in the same way - i managed to get a scan yest and everything is fine. pg care in the uk is totally poor, but i managed to get an appt at my epu and they are going to start my on hcg injections 3 x week which also means i get fortnightly scans - if it wasn't for the unit i wouldn't even get a scan until 11th may - i'm 32 with a history of 3 m/c's and no babies - how bad is that?! don't be downhearted gem xxx |

Hi Gem - good luck with your appointments. From these entries, and from what I have been told, you'll see and hear that each pregnancy is a bit different. Some people have bleeding and have a healthy baby 9 months later. Some people don't bleed at all and have m/c. In my case, it started out as brown spotting. I went in for an u/s early (8/9 weeks) to have the spotting checked out and we saw the baby with a healthy heartbeat - very exciting day. The spotting continued and we monitored it, thinking it could have been a fluke thing that just can't be explained (which happens). The nurses asked me to look for changes in consistency and changes in odor, color, etc. of the spotting. A few weeks after my u/s the blood changed in consistency from brown to red, like the start of a period. Went back to the dr to check and the pregnancy had terminated and I wound up having a m/c a few days later on my own. It involved heavy, heavy bleeding, lower back pain and pain in my lower stomach. It is a very difficult thing to go through emotionally and physically, and I will pray that you don't have to go through it. The best thing to do is stay calm and remember that you are not in control of your own body! Continue to monitor your spotting and continue to work with your care givers, paying special attention to your output. The best thing you can do for yourself and for your baby is to relax. It's hard, but I think it is best. Best - Erin |

Hi Gem...I am 24 and going through my 1st m/c (1st time pg also). I was 4 wks last week when I had my first exam. I had to know whether I was pg or not that early b/c I had a nucleur thyroid scan scheduled by my family doc (which could obviously not happen if I WAS pg!!) The dr didn't see anything on my u/s, which was ok b/c I was so early. I've had 5 blood tests since then to monitor my levels. They were going up but very slowly (120,180,266, then 166...I don't know my most recent # yet) One evening I started having pretty bad pains. I equated them to gas pains but very strong! The pain kept me up all night with little relief, it hurt to stand, walk, sit, lay...I went to the ER then next day. I had had minimal brownish bleeding all along (mainly only when I wiped) and there was no change in that, but the pain was just so severe. After a more in-depth u/s and 2 catheters (no fun!) I was told that I was miscarrying. I saw my ob yesterday and he recommended a DNC for today b/c there is fluid behind my uterus...possibly from a break in the tube caused by an ectopic. I'm very nervous right now, as I am scheduled for a DNC in 4 hours. But I've already started looking on the bright side and would like to start ttc asap. I don't have much experience on this Gem, but my best advice to you is to try and relax. That's the best thing for you and your baby. I know waiting is not easy, but God will take care of everything. Good luck! (Think positive!) |

Hi ladies and thanks for your replies. I have a scan booked for tomorrow morning as I have had on and off brown spotting for a week now. I am getting really bad nausea all day at the moment which is so horrible but I am hoping this is a good sign and also the fact that I have had no red blood and no pain is hopefully good. |

Hey Gem...keep us posted and good luck. For me other then a loss of some pg symptoms (fatigue and nasuea) I didn't know I was miscarrying until my sono. I never had bleeding or cramping...and ended up having to have a D&C. I guess everyone is different.! Thinking of you! Stacie |

First of all, don't panic because like everyone else said, it could be totally normal. My m/c started at about 7 weeks. I spotted pinkish/brown for 10 days. Then I had one gush of red. 2 days later, another gush with tiny pin head clots. Then the cramping started and lasted for about 8 hours until i passed everything. You are probably fine, just relax, what will be will be. |

I had spotting on Christmas Day at 5 weeks. Thought that meant i had lost it but when it stopped the next day i went to get checked and was told it was ok. Had doctors appt new years eve and was again told it was ok. Had one really bad cramp that doubled me pover that day and my symptoms, nausea, exhaustion, peeing, all dropped off. The next day i woke up bleeding really heavy, ultrasound and blood test confirmed my mc. I was never told that they could check my hcg blood levels tho and by the day of mty mc they were really low so i'd suggest requesting these tests if your doctor doesn't offer them. Its the not knowing if it will be or not that makes it so hard. |

I just spotted mildly and had some minor stich like pain. Totally nothing, had worse in my first pg and all was well, but turned out baby had stopped growing at 8 weeks or less. I knew something was wrong 'cos my symptoms went down noticably within 2 or 3 days of a little bright red spotting. Good luck and as always, if you not sure go to you dr and git it checked out. |

Here's my story, I am officially in my 11wk. I was told when I had my 3rd s/g the embryo stopped growing at 6 wks 2 days. i started to bleed 3 days ago. light, mild cramping (pinkish/red) nothing has come out of me. I dont want to give up yet, since nothing has come out of me. I am so confused! Hiw long am I suppose to wait to see what happens? I also do have a tilted cervics, so I know that makes it hard to get a good reading. I mean almost 5 wks that the embryo passed, and nothing? Does this make sence? I read about inccomplete miscarraige, but nothing has come out of me. I check everytime I wipe. Anyone have any info or advice? im trying to stay strong, but it's so hard. I wish all you ladies the best of luck! Christine |

I just had a miscarriage 2 days ago( at 11 weeks ) . I started having spotting here and there at around 4 weeks . It was very light and only happened once or twice again untill about 8 weeks . Then it was about once or twice a week . It would usually only last about 5 or 10 minutes and was after I went to the bathroom . Then on Thursday the light spotting continued all day . I had all different colors of spotting - pink , red , and brown . Thursday evening I awoke with horrible pains in my stomach that would get really bad about every minute or so ( they could have been contractions , I don't know ) . I woke my husband and went to the emergency room . As I got out the car to walk into the emergency room I felt a huge rush and the pain was gone . My pants were also soaked with blood . I continued bleeding for hours before I got a D&C . I don't think there is much they can do - if you are going to miscarry it is just going to happen . I just knew it was going to happen , |
